they did film Oz and Theodora going through the city with some wide shots but it was deleted.

Yeah I wasn't wowed by elfmans score as well, but I'm not a huge fan of his stuff in general.
I don't mind Elfman, but I didn't take to this score much either. Good to see him working with Raimi again though.

Well I finally saw it and I loved it.

It was unabashed fantasy, not remotely grounded in reality. It had the true spirit of a fairytale, and was a beautiful colourful visualisation of Oz. Oh and I absolutely loved Michelle Williams as the Good Witch Glenda. She was perfect :)

Williams and Weisz were the only ones that were perfectly cast.

Braff as a monkey is perfect casting :)
Loved that little guy. Also must reiterate how adorable the China Girl was in this. Joey King's voice matched up perfectly with the CGI image. Quirky dialogue too, like let's go kill a witch. :woot:

I've been saying forever, they should just do another Wizard of Oz.

Its a adaptation of the source material, the book, not a remake of the movie, and thats how they should approach and even market it.

Yeah I wasn't wowed by elfmans score as well, but I'm not a huge fan of his stuff in general. To me It didn't sound any different than the twenty other scores he's done in a similar style. He really is the musical counter part to burton, in that he really seems to lack versatility, at least in his old age.

I think his fantasy scores lately may lack versatility but I like his scores were i dont expect to see his name like Milk, the kingdom, Real Steel, Silver Linings Playbook, etc. Then u got the ones where he'll use the elfman sound as I like to call it like this and Hellboy 2 (where the score was the only thing I didnt like as much as the 1st). I definitely like when he goes differently these days (though I loved his work The Wolfman and Alice in Wonderland honestly)

Mila Kunis was Great! Wish she didn't become "wicked" till the sequel.
Not that she's not hot green...

How was Mila great? She played herself with green makeup on I don't know how thats great.

What do you want her to do, growl like Christian Bale?

"Ah'llll get youuuuuu mah pretttyyyyyyyyyy!!!"

What do you want her to do, growl like Christian Bale?

No I want her to do justice to one of the most iconic on film screen villains of all time which would require a performance. Not the same mediocre phoned in acting she does in most projects shes in.

Yes her voice WAS my main complaint, and Im not just blaming her Raimi should of known better than to cast such a mediocre actress as an iconic villain, based on the books or not.

what i liked with the wicked witch was that she sounded like a pathetic 13 year old girl. i think as a PG kids movie it worked for the character.
if i would look at this movie as a movie for adults i would complain about Kunis's witch 24/7.

I loved Kunis as the witch. I don't get the complaints about her performance.

There was no performance that I saw her do in the film, except for before she turned "evil" before that I had no problem with her whatsoever.

I preferred what she did to a caricature of the previous Wicked Witch performance. That would have been lame, IMO.

Believe me that's not what I wanted her to do either, I really wanted someone to breathe life into an iconic villain, make it their own with keeping the core of the character there and I just did not see that happen. I hate to use Ledger's Joker as a reference but it's the first thing that comes to mind.

Regardless if this film was a family film or not Kunis could have even been on par with how much effort Rachel Weisz put into her respected role. I won't beat this dead horse any longer but strangely this was one of my biggest disappointments in a film in a long time, and for some reason cannot get over how truly bad she was.

Did anyone feel that the Wicked Witch/Kunis get the Anakin/Hayden treatment?

that and going from good/normal to EVIL in like 6 seconds...
She really didn't change at all as far as he mannerisms or the way she acted she was the same good as she was "evil" except acting like a bratty teenage girl not getting her way.

I do admit the actual transformation itself was one of the best on screen moments of the whole film, its just disappointing after such an awesome scene we get such a terrible villain.
