I think Kunis is an overrated actress anyway but I will hold my reservations for the sequel(s) if she ever gets to descend further into evil territory as the more iconic Wicked Witch of the West. Perhaps we've seen merely a start of her evil ways. Evil Meg makes me laugh as that is exactly what she was lol!!

I 100% agree with you in every way possible.

Finally found the time to see this film. In short, I thought it was REALLY good! It's a pretty great family film, and it's so refreshing to watch a movie that asks you to leave your cynicism at the door. This is a really kind-hearted and innocent movie, and I enjoyed every second of it. Like many other Sam Raimi movies, I thought this film was charming.

Some things I want to mention:

-I was expecting Mila Kunis to be awful, from the things I've been hearing. As Theodora, I thought she did just fine. As her alter ego, she was okay, but she struggled a bit. Her laugh/cackle was good, though! So yay.

-I really enjoyed James Franco in this. I thought he did a really good job, especially at the end of the movie. Still, though ... I can't help but think about how Robert Downey Jr. would have approached this character if he had signed on. I still wish he had. Franco was just fine, but he wasn't THE best choice for the job, in my opinion.

-Michelle Williams as Glinda was one of my favorite characters of the movie, which I wasn't expecting at all! Williams did a wonderful job, as she made Glinda effortlessly likable.

-Finley was so cute. I was expecting him to be annoying, but that's fortunately not the case at all!

-China Girl was THE star of the movie. Dare I say, I fought myself from tearing up when her character was first introduced. This character was so adorable that I almost couldn't take it. Haha.

from 2007 to 2013 i never saw anyone praising Mila Kunis and her acting. how can she be overrated? :yay:

I was just thinking that.

I don't think she's viewed as being all that good, she's just considered a servicable actress as far as I can tell, which is what I think she is.

Wish Robert Downey Jr. ended up being the lead in this, who I heard was the first choice, I found the acting from Franco and Kunis rather shoddy at times, it's still a pretty fun movie though.
It's visually beautiful, looks great in 3d, and alot of the humor worked...I really liked monkey and china girl.

I suppose overrated wasn't the word I should have used but preferably average if not mediocre?

Overrated is the word we use when we don't care for an actor but don't know how else to put it. :o

In that case, we can just plain say they're bad/terrible/garbage, etc...

I don't think Kunis is or ever has been generally highly regarded enough to be "overrated," whether she is good or not.

A lot of people seem to like her and she's popular and not that talented, I would call that overrated. The only thing I've ever seen her in where I thought she was good was Black Swan.

Well, when she gets cast they're looking for her to act the way she does, not too out of the ordinary. She's a hot brunette who has kind of a sultry cute thing going on, not a character actress.

I don't think she's really that hot either. She's pretty but that's about it.

Whether she be seen as a good or bad actress, she is still making more $$$ than all of us.:csad:

I don't really find her very hot at all either, she's cute but her voice is super annoying.

I enjoyed it. It's thoroughly a Sam Raimi picture. I just love that that guy is still bringing the same sensibilities he's been bringing to film since he made Evil Dead. No one moves a camera quite the way he does.

I love, love, love the non-violent message. It struck that Doctor Who vibe of favoring intellect and romance over cynicism and violence.

And lastly, China Girl completely stole the movie. What a lovely, endearing, unbearably adorable little character.

So I noticed that in the trailer, the part where the crows say, "You'll die! You'll die!", Finley is the one to ask, "Did those crows just say we're gonna die?". But in the movie, Oz is the one to ask the question and Finley replies with, "They did...".

Wonder why it was changed in the movie? I actually really liked Finley saying that line more than Oz.

I love when the crows said that, I literally laughed out loud in the theater.

Just saw this today, and as a Raimi fan I was a little dissapointed by this, he seemed a bit restrained at times, which probably came from Disney. I enjoyed it though, Weisz, Braff and Williams were all superb, Franco and Kunis were ok, although again as a fan of both I was a little dissapointed.

The China Girl absolutely stole the show though, what an adorable little character, cute, tragic and a lovely little thing all at the same time, I was close to weeping nearly every time she was on screen, great to see Bruce Campbell as well. The visuals were an absolute treat and probably the best thing in the movie.

I thought the first hour was superb, but the 2nd half dragged a little too much for me, and ending wasnt really that satisfying, I would see a sequel though, 7.5/10.

After looking at your Avatar, the thought just hit me wondering what if they cast Jennifer Lawrence as Theodora instead (falling in love with that lassie after when she won her Oscar and the following interview - what a gal)? ;)

She played a similar role (similar to the glamorous way the Witch was originally conceived for the '39 film) in Walter Lang's The Blue Bird, which is pretty decent.

And to see her standing alongside Rachel Weisz too would just make me wanna go all giggidy!! ;)

Seeing this today, is the 3d post-converted or not? I'm debating whether to go 3d or not.
