Well it's a plus for Legendary and WB; hopefully they can get del Toro to work on some DC films

I really don't know the state of del Toro's stance with Universal. He had so many projects set up there, and I don't blame del Toro if he felt he was screwed out. Not that it didn't get a greenlight; but rather, Universal waiting so long to say 'no' after the countless and wasted man hours.

his project will give the Hellboy filmmaker the opportunity to create two worlds. The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface. Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.

It sounds kinda like Power Rangers vs Godzilla. I don't know. It doesn't sound all that cool to me. Given del Toro's track record, this seems pretty silly. I dare say generic, even. But then again, it's del Toro. It'll be fun regardless.

They were supposed to make one but it fell through, if this gets made, it'll be the closest thing we get to one.

In terms of Mechs, I prefer a Gundam movie but I think we can all agree that the world needs more Mech movies.

God, I hope so. I never understood why there is no Evangelion movie yet. It has all the makings of a good smart blockbuster movie (same with Gundam). But I guess they would have to dumb it down to get it done so that's why it never happened.

They wouldn't have to completely dumb it down. The Rebuild movies that they've been releasing do have to cut out and condense some material in order to fit a certain time frame and make it more accessible for the general public, but they don't necessarily dumb it down.

And those are about 90-100 minutes each. Imagine what they could do with about two-and-a-half hours of run time. They could keep stuff in without sacrificing plot and character development. If given to the right writer and director (and studio, for that matter), and done well, it could be really, really good.

I don't know. The movie is coming out in 2013 so we'll see if the movie gets delay or not.

Slightly different concept my friend:

1) The robots in the Transformers are way smaller than a building, whereas, from what the description says, the mechs in this movie are the size of buildings.

2) The robots in Transformers are sentient beings; the mechs in Pacific Rim are described as being remotely and neurally controlled by pilots, much like in Gundam or Evangelion, which could create a very different relationship between the two.


To compare something like Transformers to Pacific Rim would be like, well, comparing Transformers to Gundam/Evangelion, with a little Godzilla thrown in. The only similarities between the two are that they're robots who fight other beings/robots. That's about it.
