Pacing: When did you realize it was very fast?

I was wondering at what point did people realize the pacing was very fast?

For me there was a hint of it when Magneto and Pyro freed Juggernaut and he instantly agreed to join them. That i found a bit odd. The certainty was when everyone entered the x jet area after the speech. I realized this was the final battle already. Where did the time go?

To me it started out with Alkali Lake, when the scene went from a tender kiss, to just bre briefest hint of "something's wrong" to the sudden cut to Xavier screaming. Of all the scenes, this is the one where you'd expect time to stand still and not give a damn about how much film is left in the camera.
Most other scenes afterwards supported that. The quick rescue at Alkali Lake, where they find Jean unconcious on the rocks and next thing you know they're in the infirmary. Then Magneto's rushed attempts to recruit people. "Will you join me?" "Sure". "How about you?" "OK. Then Magneto's quick disposal of Mystique (she's a human now, yuck! [walks out on her, the end]", it just went on and on from that point. The only time I felt things slow down was Bobby and Kitty ice skating, and that really wasn't supposed to be a significant or earth-moving scene to the storyline. In fact that scene could have been totally cut out and not affected the rest of the movie at all.

I can't be certain. It wasn't just pacing. You could've cut out all the Angel scenes and probably made a better film. Only because they felt as though they didn't belong. They were just slapped in to say we added another Xman (well he doesn't really qualify atleast Nightcrawler made himself useful in X2).

Haha! Thanks! If you think about it, that scene is actually a scary omen of things to come, pacing-wise.

For me, it was when we see Beast in Washington D.C., meeting with the President, and learning about the cure, and the very next scene is back at the mansion with Xavier teaching his class, and he and Storm go into a room to meet... BEAST.

Then just a couple scenes later he's in San Francisco, then a couple scenes later, he's back in Washington D.C., and then a couple scenes later, he's back in New York with the X-Men.

The whole Phoenix Rising scene was rushed.

All of a sudden, she's there. Cyclops asks how, and all we get is a "I don't know"... and it's kinda like "um... that's it? She just... back?"

Yeah. then the "take off your glasses" part which lasts about... oh... 10-15 seconds, then a single kiss, and BAM! Xavier screaming.

That's kinda the point.

Although Cyclops' journey to Alkali Lake didn't seem rushed. He left in a very early scene in the movie (about 5 minutes in), and arrived at Alkali Lake probably about 30 minutes into the movie. Some time at least passed in the movie before he arrived there.

But Beast was jetting all the way around the country with each, from scene to scene, it seemed like at times.

I agree with Nell. That's when I noticed that things were moving pretty fast. Also a mover in the new found mutant power of fast travel was Wolverine with all his trips back and forth to Magneto's encampment and the Mansion.

When the movie started.
When it was chosen not to give Jean's younger character more explanation for why she felt recently tormented and angry.

Basically 1 minute of dialgoue bwtn the parents and xavier and magneto, tell them how Jean's best friend recently died, coulda made the darker personality have more emotion behind it, rather then power to be power for no reason.

Another lack of simple explanation, The Dark Phoenix persona needed cyclops to release Jean from a telekentic bubble state. Basically she needed his optic blast to fire triggering a release button from her dormant state.
Why now, why it take so long, perhaps was just a matter of Dark Phoenix's persona needing time to take over part of Jean and then to release itself which is something it couldnt do on its own

the pacing wasn't fast, the film just felt chopped, i think there's a difference. it probably needed only an extra 7-8 minutes and no one would have really felt anything. some scenes just needed better progression from one to another.

Well when I realised the pacing was wrong- was Cyclops suddenly appearing in his motorcycle after Beast's meeting with Leech. It just chopped the climax off.

I disagree. I consider that it was Jean herself calling out to Scott, not a ploy by Phoenix to lure him to his doom, and Jean was clearly happy to see him. That it was Scott's presence which work her up and allowed herself to be freed, and not directly caused by his optic blasts. But to each his own. you're entitled to your opinion.

Or perhaps the nature of her injuries or the state that her mind was in. Her mind being reduced to "feelings" which only slowly coalesced back into solid thoughts and memories.

First time i saw it, it was too fast paced. I felt certain scenes went by so fast especially the infirmary scene. Yeah She looked amazing in her scenes and so did Hugh (in a few of his) and James, but overall, i felt it was too fast paced. So I saw it again 5-10 mins after I saw it for the first time and I came out of the theater happy, but was I truely pleased with the final result? of course not. I felt there were things missing (Phoenix rising from the lake, more of scott), some scenes needed to be fleshed out more, actually all of the scenes needed an extra min each before going to the next scene...

Im looking forward to the DVD, but im waiting for the two disc edition so I can watch the deleted scenes and extras and put them into the movie so x3 would seem like its longer than what we previously saw in theaters.

anyway. Just my two cents of thoughts.
