Paramount/Dreamworks sides with HD-DVD in the Hi-Def war

Your going to go on and on about Transformers aren't you? Ok, then, I should start going on and on about POTC 3 not being available on HD DVD. How can Disney ignore 1/3rd of the market? They should be neutral like Warner Bros. is and make money on both BR and HD DVD. They are alienating the fans...blah, blah, blah.

This war should've started with all production companies being neutral in the first place. Let the consumer decide for themselves what they want.

Had it been that way, I think HD-DVD would have won a long time ago. Despite starting off as the underdog, it still was the leader for a long while, up until the beginning of this year. I think a lot of the exclusives on BD really swayed people, coupled with the PS3 effect.

The more balanced this scale is in software, the better imo. That way the right people get to choose the victor.

gladiator in high def would be amazing.i think the price of the hardware in the shops will sway customers (blu ray players are still very expensive unless you have a ps3)and the consumer isnt going to be buying hd dvd,blu ray and sd dvd discs and players.plus movie companys will eventually go to the media which is cheapest to produce for.

And tjsmangina, the price is not the key issue here. It's support. Blu-Ray has it in spades from the consumer electronics, PC, and videogame industries. HD-DVD does not. Customers can actually do stuff with BR other than watching movies, and on top of that, the movie selection itself is bigger.

I never said BD cheated, don't know where the hell you got that idea.

And I know it's a war, which is why ANY moves done by either side, I will not criticize, because obviously they're going to fight until one of them is left standing. Kinda like...this recent news.

So tell me, how is it you're verbally thrashing Paramount for this, if it's a "war" (which it is)? Dirty moves have been in play ever since this whole HD-DVD/BD fight started.

I'm more in support for HD-DVD, but I'm not going to around spouting things that make me look biased. Which I'm sorry to say, you're sounding like right now. I'd be more than willing to go BD, I've always planned to buy a PS3 anyway. But for right now, I'd prefer if HD-DVD were to win since their features and capabilities are more or less set in stone, and most importantly, readily available at this moment.

but look at the price of all the hardware from the likes of denon,samsung etc its not cheap.it was pointed out earlier about the quality of some blu ray releases (fifth element was particullary poor,infact didnt they re release and offer straight swaps for the poor edition for there new one ?) and some of the discs have less features than std dvds.I don't get the reasoning that the bigger disc capacity somehow offers anything... it's hasn't yet. The most stuffed full of content releases have majorly been HD DVD's.

So in MY PERSONAL OPINION, the secret 18 month exclusive deal with Paramount was made because Universal failed to deliver any movies this year that could help HD-DVD stay alive, so Toshiba went and effectively bought timed exclusiveness fot Transformers and Shrek 3 for the next two Christmases.

The Fifth Element is from Sony Pictures so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
