Paramount/Dreamworks sides with HD-DVD in the Hi-Def war

Your going to go on and on about Transformers aren't you? Ok, then, I should start going on and on about POTC 3 not being available on HD DVD. How can Disney ignore 1/3rd of the market? They should be neutral like Warner Bros. is and make money on both BR and HD DVD. They are alienating the fans...blah, blah, blah. :whatever:
Bravo.

This war should've started with all production companies being neutral in the first place. Let the consumer decide for themselves what they want.

Had it been that way, I think HD-DVD would have won a long time ago. Despite starting off as the underdog, it still was the leader for a long while, up until the beginning of this year. I think a lot of the exclusives on BD really swayed people, coupled with the PS3 effect.

The more balanced this scale is in software, the better imo. That way the right people get to choose the victor.

gladiator in high def would be amazing.i think the price of the hardware in the shops will sway customers (blu ray players are still very expensive unless you have a ps3)and the consumer isnt going to be buying hd dvd,blu ray and sd dvd discs and players.plus movie companys will eventually go to the media which is cheapest to produce for.

Drexx, so basically you're saying Blu-Ray is winning because they cheated. Sorry, but this is war. Mom and dad don't show up to chew out the referee here. :o

And tjsmangina, the price is not the key issue here. It's support. Blu-Ray has it in spades from the consumer electronics, PC, and videogame industries. HD-DVD does not. Customers can actually do stuff with BR other than watching movies, and on top of that, the movie selection itself is bigger.

So now it's a war, weren't you whining earlier about Paramount going exclusive. Did you think that Toshiba was going to sit and twiddle their thumbs? :whatever:

I never said BD cheated, don't know where the hell you got that idea.

And I know it's a war, which is why ANY moves done by either side, I will not criticize, because obviously they're going to fight until one of them is left standing. Kinda like...this recent news.

So tell me, how is it you're verbally thrashing Paramount for this, if it's a "war" (which it is)? Dirty moves have been in play ever since this whole HD-DVD/BD fight started.

I'm more in support for HD-DVD, but I'm not going to around spouting things that make me look biased. Which I'm sorry to say, you're sounding like right now. I'd be more than willing to go BD, I've always planned to buy a PS3 anyway. But for right now, I'd prefer if HD-DVD were to win since their features and capabilities are more or less set in stone, and most importantly, readily available at this moment.

but look at the price of all the hardware from the likes of denon, samsung etc its not cheap.it was pointed out earlier about the quality of some blu ray releases (fifth element was particullary poor, infact didnt they re release and offer straight swaps for the poor edition for there new one ?) and some of the discs have less features than std dvds.I don't get the reasoning that the bigger disc capacity somehow offers anything... it's hasn't yet. The most stuffed full of content releases have majorly been HD DVD's.

no idea what that means but love your avatar :woot:

Thank you. The Master Ninja is both wise and powerful. He has trained me well in the dark arts of sword fighting, bass guitar, and advanced seppiku techniques. :ninja:

I'd believe the Times more than I'd believe some corporate stooge who's clearly being fed every word that comes out of his mouth by someone richer than himself.

but you'll happily believe everything bill hunt says

or a single word off blu-ray.com

please

So since Blu-Ray.com has some misinformation, that automatically means nothing they say can be true. :o

Please. I'd like to think that you could come up with something better than that to defend your pathetic dying format.

Who's more desperate: someone who types mean, hurtful things on a message board because he's annoyed at not being able to buy Transformers, or someone who's benefactor corporation had to pay out $150M or face complete annihilation by the end of the year?

The best solution is to buy a DVD Upscaler and take advantage of the falling prices in the SD market... then wait for the clear winner

blu-ray.com is NOT a news outlet. It's an advert for blu-ray paid for by the BDA. Those guys are worse than scientologists when it comes to spinning the truth beyond all recognition.

Anyone who takes a question like "why did paramount go exclusive" and replaces it with:

Dissecting the Insanity: What Does the Paramount Deal Really Mean?

cannot be considered an accurate and impartial source. they leave out what they don't like and add what they wish were true. Face it blu-ray.com is the "national enquirer" of hi-def websites. Christ, DACMAN shows more impartiality than they do.

That one.

Even without the Paramount deal, HD-DVD never was facing annihilation.

Alright then Hippy Fascist, fine. I will not quote Blu-Ray.com in the future if it aggravates you that much. So in MY PERSONAL OPINION, the secret 18 month exclusive deal with Paramount was made because Universal failed to deliver any movies this year that could help HD-DVD stay alive, so Toshiba went and effectively bought timed exclusiveness fot Transformers and Shrek 3 for the next two Christmases.

Why don't you ever acknowledge that Sony does the exact same thing? Sony paid for exclusives. They did the exact same thing that Toshiba did.

Because he's a fanboy

Because he's bought the blu-ray.com line hook line and sinker

Because the truth hurts :(

Sony could have produced a format that cost twice as much and had half the features and he'd still defend it because he has to. If sony lose he's spent $599 on a console with no decent games OR movies

It's really very sad :(

Just read Paramount will not be making any more copies of the current Blu-Ray line up. Once they are gone they are gone. I better pick up The Fifth Element soon :woot:

The Fifth Element is from Sony Pictures so I don't think you have anything to worry about. ;)

Did anyone see where Bay has back peddled and is maybe going to do Transformers 2. I bet the Godfather Speilberg told him if he wanted to work in this town again make the movie get over the dvd crap.

I guess it's true that you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you. lol. :ninja:

Considering Spielberg is pro-Blu, I doubt that was the case.

I remember a news article a few months back by the BDA saying that Blu-ray will replace standard DVD within 3 years....

Dvd's have only just surpassed VHS.

This is Betamax vs. VHS all over again :csad:
