Wow, either this was rigged or the demands hit a huge surge this week. It was at around 600k a few days ago, and yesterday it finally hit the goal of 1,000,000 demands for a nationwide release:

Guess I'll be seeing this next week then.

well they have been showing tv spots for the movie, i think that helped alot

I'm skeptical as to how scary this really is -- is it scary just to the GA crowd who could barely stand 'Signs' or is it genuinely a good, scary horror film? Guess I'll find out tonight.

Initially I wasn't that terrified by it, but it was a good experience. It's like walking through a really good horror maze. Funny thing is when I was driving home and talking about it with a friend, I kept getting chills every time I thought about certain scenes.

Also, it takes a lot for a movie to actually scare me, so I would say this movie is a genuinely good horror film.

EDIT: Plus what I love most about this movie is that it follows the idea of "less is more" so it really lets your imagination run wild which, I think, is the key to a great horror movie.

nice.

I just saw the trailer, movie looks pretty trippy

I just saw a commercial for this showing audience reactions to the movie. I had never heard of it before but the audience seemed flat out terrified!

Finally got around to seeing this today. I'd been looking forward to this for the last couple weeks. I can honestly say that I was very disappointed.

No spoilers.

I'll start off with the good, both actors were good, and they were a believable late 20 something couple. The film doesn't drag, but I did find the pacing to be off. The film basically has two modes, the couple talking about what's happening at night, and then the night vision haunting scenes. You find yourself checking your watch just aching to get back to the haunting scenes. The only time I enjoyed the day to day scenes was a scene including a psychic who they consult, because he is the one who describes the "entity" and is the one who instills the fear in you. And while the tension is good during the haunting scenes, the scare payoffs are extremely weak and predictable. Yes, the film felt very real, mostly because of how real the two main actors come across in the film.

Now for the bad.

There are 2 main characters. Shouldn't be a difficult task to make me care about them, leaving the film I knew little about their background, their relationship, what they do or who they are, certainly one thing that you need in a movie like this, and it was missing. The torment they may go through doesn't mean anything if you don't know who they are and just how much trauma they're being put through.

And there was a massive lack of environment. I don't know if that can be attributed to the first person aspect of the film, but I didn't feel enveloped in the movie at all. Leaving things to your imagination doesn't work when you don't feel overpowered by the film's setting.

To me, the "scares" came off as nothing but "creepy" to me. Nothing that would make me jump out of my seat, but get a little anxious, sure.

Different people are going to take this movie different ways. While I may not have been taken by storm by this movie, all horror fans should check it out definitely.

6/10.

Not much of a review, I know, but those are my general feelings.

That's an interesting question. I'm from more rural areas, and I'm still terrified of Signs. It has and will always be one of my favorite horrors.

Now maybe this could be a reason why I wasn't blown away by Paranormal Activity. I'm sure that plenty of urban people could be scared crapless from random sounds in their house considering how they'd have to watch out for burglars and intruders, etc.

How was your crowd, Pred? I think this is one of those movies that needs a good crowd in order to be enjoyable, which doesn't say much about the film. You shouldn't need to be in a crowded theater to like a movie.

^To each his own, I guess.

As for Paranormal Activity, I didn't care for it. Some scenes in the first half were somewhat creepy, but after the [blackout]demon[/blackout] implication, the film nearly fell apart for me.

4/10

I'll write a review, hopefully by monday.

It was probably half full. Most people left grumbling and mumbling.

I wouldn't call this a movie that would have that fun "crowd atmosphere" like Planet Terror or Drag Me to Hell would.

I loved it... and I totally get Pred's view on it too, when you in the country (Not saying it's Country..) you creep out on different things... as a city ghetto boy, having stuff go bump in the night and it's not cause someone's breaking in... seen it 2 days ago and still leave t.v. on!! *shudders*
