Woah woah woah. Katie is
possessed before the beginning of the first movie?
Do I have that right? If so,

Its my understanding that the last scene of the movie takes place the same night that Katie kills Micah.

I'm thinking of checking this out tomorrow after work. Want to see it before I read any reviews.

It's fantastic. Better than the first film in every way (scares, characters, plot, etc....).

I'm getting excited to see this, but if this:

is true, I don't know how much I like that. If what Matt said is true then that's a little better but still,

I assumed that the first film was where Katie gets fully posessed.

But again, if what Matt said is true then that kind of trumps that view.

I'll reserve judgement until I see the film for myself though.

That's my understanding of it based on the plot details that I've read.

This film ends the same night as the first one. After Katie kills Micah, she kills her sister, her sister's husband, and takes Hunter.

Having not seen it yet, I'm not sure, but the review that I read lays it out like that. Can anyone confirm?

Also, alternative interpretation alert!

There is no ghost. I know it is called paranormal activity, and presented in the format of found film, and we see some paranormal ****. But maybe we are watching the found film through Katie's eyes. Maybe there is no ghost but she is just rationalizing her actions and in reality she is simply a nut job. The paranormal activity is just a metaphor for Katie's slow loss of sanity and she is really just one of those crazy people who steals babies.

:hehe: Probably not true, but I like alternative character interpretations. :funny:

Interesting theory

so in your interpretation, when we see her kill Micah by tossing him around, is that really how it went down or is that just part of her "reality?"

Just got back from a 10:00 o clock showing of this here is my little review.

Some Major Spoilers

Overall I thought it was pretty good. It built up the suspense u don't know when the paranormal stuff was going to happen and when. The Crowd seemed to enjoy it. It pretty much is a Prequel to the orginal in the beginging and a Sequel at the end. As for Katie being Posseed before the 1st movie happens that is not true. Let me know if u guys have any questions and I can answer it as best I can.

Just got back from a 12:01 showing. Thought it was pretty good, though something pissed me off before the film started and so my mood wasn't the best tonight. Anyway, major spoilers follow, do not read the last two if you don't want the movie spoiled.:

Basically it's a prequel until the last 6 or 7 minutes. The kitchen cabinet scene got me the most. Katie was not possessed before the first film, and this film explains exactly why.
The film talks about why the demon stalked them, and what might be going on. It wants the baby because he is the end of a bargain made by their grandmother as the first born male heir of the family
Basically the demon was transfered from Christy to Katie by Christy's husband through a religious ritual the nanny knew. Then the events of the first movie happen, and Katie comes to their house and kills them, then takes Hunter away.
I thought it was a great addition to the first, with everything just about superior to the first. Watching it with a screaming crowd was great too. However, I felt it was a less effective film, simply from seeing the first film. Though this doesn't try to redo what the first did, the first played on that angle of it all being real and such, and while this tried, all the rumors of any truth about the events in the first were gone, and I full out knew this was just a movie.

Just got back from the midnight show. Perfect tie in to the first movie. Watching with a crowd definitely enhances the experience. The whole theater starts to buzz once a night scene starts. You can feel the anticipation from everyone. Awesome experience.

So this movie does have more action during the night scenes right? Because that was my main complaint with the first movie. It took waaay to long for the really scary/good parts to happen. The end of the first movie was the scariest part and then it ended. I was like man why couldnt the whole movie had been that scary and tense. But the reviews for this have been good so I will check it out tonight!!!!

I saw both of them back to back in theatres last night. I loved it, just as awesome as the first one. I loved the banality of what was happening in the first one, this one somewhat took that away but the way it expanded upon the original story is just as disturbing in its own way.

i hate basements now.
this movie rocked though...one of the best of the year surprisingly...8.5/10 based on a great quality scare!
had me on the edge of my seat the whole time...a girl got so scared during the movie that she ran out and then yelled for her boyfriend to follow her out (i cracked up hard)

Yup, that's exactly what happens.

It was pretty decent, but I think I liked the first one better. It took forever to get going, much longer than the first one did. The scares were good, it felt like they were really leaning on Poltergeist as reference, and it was pretty effective.

The audience was funny, we got one "WTF is wrong with you?!" torwards the end, and the projectionist kept flicking the lights on and off during the end credits, making everyone scream. :funny:

Just got around to seeing the first one on Netflix streaming last night. It wasn't that scary. It's a good movie but not even close to the scariest I've ever seen. I still think the original Halloween and Kubrick's The Shining are probably the two scariest for me.

What I liked about the original is that its not really scary during my viewing in the theater aside from a few of the obvious jump moments. But what made it scary was when you get home, and are laying in the dark and everything from the movement of the dog to just a normal house creak makes you jump in terror.

Just got back from seeing it ( 10:00pm showing). I will say it's better than the first movie. Like someone else said it does take a while for the movie to pick up. So like the first 20 or 30 mins nothing really happens. It's just character development etc. I do like that the movie gives more backstory as to whats going on. It makes the first movie make more sense. Once the crazy stuff starts it will keep you hooked until the end if the movie.

This movie MUST be seen with a packed or sold out theater. It just adds to the movie and is alot of fun! During the movie I had people screaming, jumping, and lots of What the hell? Or WTF and laughs. It was just a fun experience. If you like the first movie you will love this. If your like me and didn't care to much about the first I would still suggest you check it out. It an improvement over the first movie.

I saw the first one before the new one and disagree about the pacing. The pacing in the new PA is far better. I was never bored. That's because we have more characters to spend time with. The first film definitely needed some more shaving.

There was some good scare jumps and the characters were interesting enough. I wasn't a fan of the ending and it was a slow build to get to the good stuff but it wound up being a fun experience. I had people in my theater screaming , jumping , and some of them actually said funny things . I normally get mad if someone cracks jokes but aside from them actually being funny the atmosphere was open to it.

The excat same thing happen in my theater. With the theater being sold out it made the whole experience much more fun!
