Parts I and II (Spoiler Thread)

The Grand Inquisitor thing is almost certainly a bait and switch. The existence of Dave Filoni as a person of influence within Lucasfilm’s live action projects is reason enough to think that.

Other than that, the darker tone and the prequel nostalgia has sustained me. It’s an acceptable couple of episodes.

I hope the pumpkinhead Grand Inquisitor is like Ugly Sonic and we'll get the real Grand Inquisitor played by Jason isaacs in another live action project.

It's insane how people are trashing Reva so soon too, especially on Youtube. Literally only 2 episodes in.

Oh that was happening way before the show come out. It's really a case of people just wanting to be angry.

I wonder if her being black and a woman has a lot to do with it... sadly.

Lucasfilm even warned her beforehand that this would happen.

Moses Ingram: ‘Talking droids and aliens but no people of colour? It makes no sense’

But it's not just the size of the world's most popular sci-fi franchise that poses a problem for Ingram. Actors of colour have received a disproportionate amount of abuse online from Star Wars fans; John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran are two of the highest-profile stars to have spoken out about the torrent of racist online abuse they received when they starred in the franchise.

Ingram says she was warned by Lucasfilm, Star Wars's production company, to brace herself for a similar reception. "It was something that Lucasfilm actually got in front of, and said, 'This is a thing that, unfortunately, likely will happen. But we are here to help you; you can let us know when it happens.'"

That said, her character is pretty cringe so far.

HOW.

She was a Padawan who lost her Master/Teacher, experienced a "school shooting" in part to Obi-Wan's and The Jedi's failure to contain Anakin... let alone do anything about The Sith returning/collapse of Galactic Democracy.

Her anger towards Obi-Wan is no different than my anger towards the DNC. Yes, they're not directly at fault like the GOP with our collapse of democracy/capitalism/societal failures; but they've done very little outside of tweeting about it.

If she knew Yoda was alive or if Mace wasn't dead / she'd be going after them as well. The whole Jedi Order had numerous times to figure out Palpatine, yet kept ignoring it - ala The DNC with gun issues, lack of taxation on Corporations, lack of health care, wage differentials, etc. / the PT is a great metaphor for the last 10-20 years of America.

The same people who call Reva cringe will defend the worst written parts of the prequels. and I'm a BIG fan of the prequels.

Sadly, I found this to be... really quite bad so far.

Ewan's good. But man. The story direction, the actual direction, the dialogue, the awkward sets, the characters and the performances... None of it is coming together at all.

As my previous post hopefully already indicated, I don't agree with abuse towards actors. But her character is just too emo and one-note. Maybe that will change in the following episodes. Right now, however, she's a lesser version of Trilla.

I disagree, but to each their own. Let's see where it goes.

That’s how I feel about Reva so far. Hope her character is expanded upon more in the remaining episodes because based on these two episodes she’s been too one dimensional

I'm glad other people are enjoying it, but I am just not a fan of this so far. Outside of Ewan, Joel and the young actress playing Leia who is great btw there really isn't a whole lot that is grabbing me.

I mean it honestly felt like barely anything happened in the first two episodes and if you really think about it all of the stuff that happened could have been told in 1 episode anyways.

I am also not a fan of the Reeva character either, but maybe that has something more to do with the material although the writing in general isn't all that great tbh as well as the overall direction.

Sadly, I thought the first two episodes of Boba were much better.

Okay, so I just watched the first two episodes:

I wasn’t expecting the recap to the films, or the Jedi protecting Younglings from Order 66, but that was one way to start the show.

I really do not like the Inquisitors at all. Reva just shouts all the time and Grand Inquisitor pales to Jason Isaacs, which sucks as he was awesome in Rebels. There’s no way he’s dead though, as that would change way too much.

I felt so bad for Obi-Wan, and how far he fell. You could really feel his guilt and his feeling of hopelessness in Ewan’s performance before we see him slowly getting back to his heroic ways.

Also was hoping Qui-Gon would show up, but perhaps in the next few episodes.

Was surprised to see a lot of Young Leia in these episodes instead of Luke. The actress did a pretty good job balancing snark, curiosity, intelligence, fear, etc. Also enjoyed her dynamic with Obi-Wan, Lola, and her adopted parents.

Loved seeing appearances from Joel Edgerton, Jimmy Smitts and Temura Morrison as the clone trooper. Felt as sad as Obi-Wan. Speaking of Morrison, I thought he was the character watching Leia, but it turned out to be Flea! :funny:

I really enjoyed the direction from Chow, the cinematography and production design! Daiyu looked pretty awesome! Action could have been better though.

Loved the twist where Haja wasn’t a Jedi, but a con man using magnets. He brought some levity to the episode, and it was good to see despite his greed, he still chose to help Leia and Obi-Wan.

That final shot with Obi-Wan/Anakin in the tank gave me the chills!

I enjoyed the first two episodes. Lots to set up. I'm not overly impressed by the Inquisitors, but let's see where this goes. I'm a bit curious about Reva and why she's so hell bent on finding Obi-Wan; it feels to me like it just isnt for fame and glory with Vader. Hopefully there will be more depth there. I guess i was expecting a little more there. But 4 more episodes to go, i'm holding off on a final opinion on her.

Love Leia, she's so Anakin and Padme meshed together hahaha. Feel so bad for Obi-Wan; he sure is a broken man. Color me surprised that he didnt know Vader survived! I figured he would know, but just shows how disconnected from everything he has been. And that ending? Oh hell, they sensed each other now, game is on!

Jake and Hayden got some pretty heavy abuse though, so i dont see it as a race or gender issue.

Exactly.

Not surprising seeing people complain already. It wouldn't be Star Wars without that. For me, this is exactly what I've wanted so far and I think it's gonna just get better and better.
Is valid criticism not allowed?

There will be racism and sexism involved. And while inevitable, it doesn't change how gross it is.

From a performance standpoint, the actor was terrible, as was her writing. She had plenty of screen time in the first two episodes, I don't know why, "only 2 episodes in", would change that. Two episodes in, and Ewan as awesome, as was lil Leia. Is it too early to say that?

I'm thinking maybe she was one of the kids at the temple, or perhaps even someone that Obi-Wan was suppose to take on as a padawan, but e chose aganst it.

It's the type of abuse. You saw this with Daisy, John, and Kelly Marie. The sexism and racism is a very different breed of abuse.

Valid criticism is fine, but my words were aimed mainly at the people who have already written her off as not having a great story as if there's not 4 episodes left, but we'll see how it goes. Maybe some people are right and she'll end up being the worst part of the show. It doesn't matter much in the end though because once Vader shows up, and him and obi wan clash, most people will forgive it anyway.

Yeah, that's my impression too, that she might be one of those kids from the beginning.

I dont understand why fans need to take it to such a level, it's uncalled for. Yeah, i know people have their expectations and likes, but not enjoying a performance doesnt mean you need to attack the person who gave it. I never understood it during the PT, nor did i understand the need for that during the sequels, which i didnt enjoy at all btw but i just never felt the need to enter a bashing game, and i most certainly dont understand it now.
