I was afraid it was going to go beyond a simple grope... :( :p

I think its going to go further in future episodes. Viktor is going to end up falling for her or at the very least "dipping his toes in that cold dead pool" and then Caliban is going to want his head.

Caliban looks like he might even not need the Bride if the thing with the blind girl turns out ok, thought that could easily go sideways for the poor guy.

The bathing in blood thing might be a tease to that, even though Lizzie never actually did that in history. She could be a version of the gothic vampire that was inspired by Bathory, Carmilla, who liked to bathe in the blood of virgins and predated the Dracula novel.

Did anyone else geek out at the blind daughter character?

Was she in any old novel or something like that? Feels like i've seen this type of character hundreds of times.

Very reminiscent of Red Dragon/Manhunter. A man with a deformed face fascinated by a blind woman.

Hasn't that trope been done many other times too? I've seen it in Mask, Toxic Avenger and Fantastic Four, it dates back to in least the 60s, but i don't know where it started being used.

In the book and various classic film adaptations, the Creature runs into an old blind man who is kind to him before his family see him and drive him off. It was one of the sadder moments in the story, and here they seem to maybe be altering it so that it has a romance aspect.

Frankenstein predates it by 50 or so years, but Victor Hugo's "The Man Who Laughs" had the blind 'Dea' fall in love 'Gwynplaine' (the subject of the title). The character was memorably played by Conrad Veid in 1928, whose scary appearance formed the basis for Batman's Joker.

'The Blind and the Beast' is a recognised trope at any rate. Frankenstein is the earliest I'm aware of, but there may well be some old fable that covers the same basic idea.

Fantastic premier. I love that they dive right in from season one without a time jump. Can't wait for the next episode.

Loving tonight's episode, especially Mr Chandler interacting with the historian. Hilarious. :p

Good Episode. The Vanessa and Caliban scene was an unexpected surprise. Looks like this season has alot of interesting dynamics for shipping. Lol.

They disembowled a baby on screen...

^ This is why I love cable television. They won't be able to get away with that baby scene elsewhere. :hehe:

This season is killing me. They're doing so good so far. It's much more focused and as much as I love mysterious villains, I love how we're seeing a lot of Madame Kali and her plans. My top 3 favorite moments were the Vanessa/Caliban scene, the Ethan/Mr. Lyle one, and of course the doll room scene. :awesome:

He's totally hit it. :hehe: I'm disappointed that he's in cahoots (albeit forced) with Kali but whatever... He's hilarious!

I wasn't expecting them to meet either so I loved that. There's something so tender and beautiful in that scene. Caliban is an ass but I just can't help but feel bad for him.

ETA: Anyone else found it funny how they found a way to remove Billie Piper's awful Irish accent? :hehe:

What was the main villain of Season 1? I can't realy remember, wasn't it just some nameless vampire?

I am loving this season so much already. It is beautiful, creepy and intriguing. The cast is so good, that this would be worth a watch if it was trash. But the quality of the writing is just getting better and better. Everything Vanessa or Ethan done is great. The witches are insane, and insanely hot. Especially the daughter.

You can tell where Frankenstein and his creations are headed, and yet it transfixes you. You just want to protech Brona.

Her accent was fine. :o

And yeah, I was not expecting to enjoy the Historian. He annoyed me last year, but he was great tonight. His scenes with Ethan were hilarious.

^ Pffft. It was baaaad. I can't understand her half of the time. :p

"American, I'm undone!" :lmao:

Are the pitchforks out already for the baby scene? I can't wait for the outrage. :hehe:

The same as this season. The devil.

That's technicaly the main villain of the whole show, but each season seems to have been guided by a Big Bad. Kind of like how Thanos is technicaly the main villain of the Avengers story, but Loki served as the big bad of the first film.

I didn't really think that season 1 had a main villain. Their quest in season 1 was basically to find and rescue Mina.

Mina was used by the head vamp to lure Vanessa, right? And it seems like the head vamp wanted Vanessa for the devil. So for this season, it's Madame Kali that's trying to get Vanessa for the devil since the head vamp failed.

Where does Dracula figure into all of this, i hope he wasn't the nameless head vampire.
