saw the full length trailer :o Wowzers. Not sure what to expect this time around but it looks creepy as hell.

Wouldn't surprise me if she was Carmilla the Vampire from the classic gothic novel, which incidentally predates Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I have heard talk of a character from literature that requires young magical souls to keep their youth. Could see that with the flash in the tub.

Also, what is Vanessa doing with the monster?

.... Gawd knows what... :( I don't wants to go there. Vanessa is...too creepy...

The line about Lucifer not falling alone seems to hint that they're going to tackle fallen angels? It should be interesting. That's one of my favorite stories.

Funny you mentioned that because I found out about Camilla (from Tumblr of all places :funny:) just recently.

I think I missed that part in the trailer. Maybe it's for the best... :funny:

Pretty sure she was just dancing with him. I just meant, why. Sickos. :funny:

I don't want to get any older, but April can't come fast enough. :)

Maybe he offically joins the crew.

Love the fact that he's interacting with more characters than just Victor. Hopefully things like that will make the disparate storylines coalesce this season.

Was that the phantom of the opera who popped up in the trailer?

Come April, get ready to dread.

The second season of Showtime's gothic drama Penny Dreadful will premiere on Sunday, April 26 at 10/9c, it was announced at the Television Critics Association winter previews on Monday.

A trailer (which you can watch below) shown before the panel featured a number of disturbing scenes, including this season's antagonist Evelyn Poole (Helen McCrory) reclining in a bathtub filled with blood. "This season we embrace witchcraft," creator John Logan said. "Evelyn Poole becomes the antagonist for all the characters." Viewers may recall meeting McCrory's character by another name, Madame Kali, the renowned spiritualist and medium who hosted a seance in Season 1.

Check out more scoop from the panel:

Penny Dreadful boss addresses Vanessa's sexuality, Ethan's werewolf origins

Ethan Chandler Last season, we discovered that Ethan (Josh Hartnett) was a werewolf. "You'll definitely see more this season. He learns what he is," Logan said."How we treat lycanthropy is a big part of the season." This season will give him more definition after he lived with the dread of not knowing his capability for violence. In the trailer, we also see Ethan performing what looks to be an exorcism. Was he once a priest? All Logan would say was, "He has a strong spiritual past."

Evelyn Poole "I don't believe in heroes and villains," Logan said. "She believes in what she's doing... a noble calling. She is on the side of the angels even though she's serving the devil."

Sir Malcolm Although Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) had a strong, paternal relationship with Vanessa (Eva Green) last season, expect some friction once he begins a relationship with Evelyn that "alienates him" from the group, Logan said.

Witches Don't expect to see the stereotypical crones in pointy black hats. Logan decided to draw from what scares him in real life when he's hiking: rattlesnakes. "They're very beautiful and bewitching," but can turn deadly in a second, he explained. He brought these ideas to the makeup designers.

Dr. Victor Frankenstein At the end of last season, Victor (Harry Treadaway) killed Ethan's ailing friend Brona (Billie Piper) in order to give his Creature (Rory Kinnear) a companion. "His Creature taught him in a way about the need for love. Creating life is worthless without love... so he gives him a vessel. It doesn't all go as planned."

Dorian Gray In the trailer, we see that Dorian (Reeve Carney) looking at a cameo photo of Vanessa, as intrigued by her as ever. He had plenty of action last season though, first with Brona and then an ambiguous connection with Ethan. Logan teased that "everything becomes more fluid in the second season" including eroticism and sexuality.

Dancing We see the Creature learning to waltz in the trailer, and Logan confirms that music is significant to the series because "anguish is everything." Three original waltzes were composed for Season 2 including one for Vanessa and Ethan, one for all the characters and one for the Creature. "There's a major dancing component to this season," Logan said.

Bloodbath Although McCrory didn't find filming the bloodbath scene upsetting, the logistics of the bath were a nightmare to put together. "You float in that blood," she said. "You bob, bob, bobbed." The crew had to weigh McCrory down with blocks along the length of her body.

Check out the bloody scene yourself in the trailer below:

Ideally, what would you do with the character in the long run?
Well it seems they are working him amongst other "freaks" in some sort of Island of Dr. Moreau subplot, so I am curious where that goes.

But at some point I think he has to be the center of tension in the group. With Brona and murders, he has committed you would think he would become a target at some point. For my money, Vanessa and Ethan are the lead. Their relationship the strongest. So if she grows to care for the Creature, show him compassion it could be compelling. I just don't see how he could be "one of the family", especially with Brona.

Yeah, but in some parts, like the one i mentioned after Eva Green's character went to have sex with a stranger in the middle of the street, i don't see much of a point, take out that scene and the plot basicaly stays the same, later we know better why she would behave so differently sometimes, but at that point she was still in "good mode" or so to speak.

But yes, the sex scenes have mostly had narrative value so far, but i have to say, that writing on TV has vastly improved in the past 5 years or so, but at the same time, it seems like they've become more crowded with sex scenes, almost all the good shows seems to have one in every episode, not that i'm complaining, but it's a bit more awkward to show them to other people who don't know the context.
I know this is old, but I don't remember seeing this.

I think after the season was over, it became quite clear why that season is there. Whatever has clung onto her, has a clear sexual element.

Behind the scenes. Beware potential spoilers

*googles Elizabeth Bathory*

:wow: Can't believe I've never heard of that woman. Evil doesn't even begin to describe what I just read about her murders. She bathed in virgin blood...

The thing about Bathory, is, she never actually bathed in blood to stay youthful. That was never substantiated and was only added to her myth about a century or so after her death because people at the time couldn't fathom a woman doing such things for any reason other than vanity. She just liked to torture and kill people for ****s and giggles. Plus her father famously stitched a man inside a dead horse and left him to die there.

A family after my own heart.
