I was involved in Methodist, Presbyterian and Lutheran congregations up until the age of 17 or so. I won't go into why my beliefs changed as it would probably just stir up more angst in this thread.

Okay, I won't press any further than this one question... Your reasons for leaving... were they due to God or the people? If it's God, then I'm sorry, but if it's people, then you're not focusing on the right reasons to leave God. People are flawed and they will mess up, that's a definate.

I only mention that because I typically find that people who actually put their faith in God 100% are fine, but the people who turn away from God do so because a person or people screwed up, and then they blame God by claiming either a) he's evil, or b) he's fake.

So I figured I'd just throw that out there. Conversation closed.

However, I don't equate someone committing suicide with having free thought and deciding not to believe in God, personally. I don't think they are even remotely the same thing, so this is probably another one of those "agree to disagree" things for you and I.

but...he didnt leave god? he just left a building where some people were praying to their mostly agreeed upon idea of god, right?

i think i started a thread here once- but really what it coems down to is this-whats the "Definiton" of God anyhow? there isn't one- at least not one upon which everybody's agreed.

So for some guy down south, putting a big ole cross in the hands of the Statue of Liberty is the best way to "honor god".
for someone else, playing some kickass guitar solo is hte best way to "honor god"...
for someone else maybe its helping sick people in a hospital, and so on and so forth.

but this idea of thinkng someone's "leaving god" just because they left a building called a church? its ridiculous to me.

Nope I'm just someone who has developed a deep seated hatred for Islam and Christianity because of all the **** their believers are doing.

I also have developed a deep seated hatred for God after reading the Bible and the Quran because some of his rules and laws are idiotic and unreasonable.

To me God hates humanity and therefore as a human I hate God.

I didn't mean it in the way that you're taking it. I may be wrong, but I was under the assumption that he had turned away from God period. If I was wrong or misread him, then I majorly apologize. I am not one to believe that you have to be in a building to worship or believe God. You'll always seeing me mention that the church building is just that, a building. And I agree that people can honor God in many ways. The only question is how people see God.

Then you are completely misinformed. You are no better than what you accuse christians and Islamic beliefs to be, in fact, from a non christian standpoint, I'd say you're worse. At least people of faith have a reason to believe and believe that they do so for good. You're obviously just acting on hate. You're the kind of person who goes on to kill people and smile while doing it.

What you don't seem to understand is that in both cases the Muslims and Christians that are doing things you find offensive are in the minority. It's simply that they get the lion's share of the exposure exactly because they are doing those things.

The majority of Christians and Muslims go about their business, living their mundane lives, trying to provide for their families, etc. Most of them are embarrassed by the actions of the people we see on the news and horrified that 'those people' are being portrayed as representatives of their religion.

Average Christains and Muslims don't have any means to control these people. Extremist Muslims will kill an 'average Muslim' just as readily as a Christian or Jew (you see it daily in Iraq). An Extremist Christain will condemn an 'average Christian' as much as a Gay or Minority. Both extremist groups will condemn ANYONE (even those who identify themselves as belonging to the same larger group - Muslim or Christian) who doesn't believe EXACTLY as they do.

I've only seen that movie once and have no desire to see it again. I don't understand what the public liked about it, but then there are tons of things that the public likes which leaves me going

Neat. Not everyone has such a generous nature.

For instance, if a person comes here and starts talking about how the U.S. never really landed on the moon, and how there's tons of irrefutable evidence, someone like you would just blithely smile and look for a more sensible thread....but don't deny that there are many who would have to get on and say, "Dumb-Ass, you're full of it. All of your "evidence" has been de-bunked. You're living in a fantasy."

And, it works both ways. They believe something, you walk past...I strongly disagree with them, you walk past, right?

So the question of "who cares" is directed right back at you.
