Pet Sematary Remake in the works

They’re killing Ellie too? The hell is going on with this?

Not sure if I like the change of Ellie being the one to return instead of Gage.
Not really feeling that myself. It even looks like they have her taking out the old man. Growing up watching the original film version I found the fact that it was such a young person to be absolutely terrifying. Yeah the girl is young too but man the look of the original Gage with that darn scalpel.

I just read an interview with the filmmakers.

Ellie is indeed the one that comes back to life, not Gage.

Pet Sematary is my all time favourite Stephen King novel... I... really, really hate this change.

I get trying to stand out from the earlier movie or whatever but it seems like such a cliche. Another stringy haired dead girl.

In the novel, what makes it so effective when Gage is killed is that he represents pure innocence. He is merely a toddler who is accidentally killed but when he is brought back, that sweet innocence is completely wiped out. This cute little boy becomes the form of pure evil and it's downright scary. Ellie's key role is being the one who is trying to understand what death is and she is also the vessel used by Victor Pascow to warn her parents of the dangers of bringing make a human life. In the end, she ends up alone without her parents or her brother.

Now this has been completely changed and as for the filmmakers promising a more faithful adaptation, this change alone tells me this isn't going to be a truly faithful adaptation.

It's
just the girl.

The script is dumb, derivative and they replaced everything creepy from the book with something cliche. The ending is truly awful lol

You have the script?

Yeah I’ll probably still see this but that change is a big mistake imo.

You have the script?

Yes, it's bad. Out of the upcoming horrors the only script I liked was Midsommar (I don't have the one for Us, neither I want to read that, I want to be surprised)

Honestly, the change doesn't bother me that much and that is coming from someone who is a fan of the original, but has never read the book. The only thing that still concerns me is the fact that it still looks like a pretty generic horror film that's not going to be very scary in the least.

I've never read the book or seen the original film but the trailer for this adaption was certainly creepy enough.

To me, this major change in the story is like if you made the character Wendy go mad in The Shining, not Jack. Ugh.

My growing level of excitement for this new adaptation of Pet Sematary dropped after watching the new trailer, seeing the new poster and reading the interview with the filmmakers.

IT director Andy Muschietti stated he wanted to make an adaptation of Pet Sematary once he finished the IT films. Now I'm really wishing Paramount Pictures had waited and pushed to get him.

As a whole, I like the way it looks. But I just don't get why they would make that one big change. Completely alters the most iconically creepy part of the book and movie.

Agreed. Muschietti is one of the few filmmakers who “gets” Stephen King along with Frank Darabont and Rob Reiner.

"They felt it had been done already, and this was a chance to try something fresh."

lol it's one of the most cliche elements in horror genre

Also, does it look like...

Louis is fine with resurrected Ellie at first as the trailer implies that he lets Rachel and Ellie hug. If this is the case, all the filmmakers did was take the same plot point from Pet Sematary 2 when Edward Furlong's character was in a loving embrace when his dead mother came back to life to only turn on her when he saw she was now evil. That seems so... cliche. Chances are Ellie attacks Rachel and kills her. Louis panics and kills Ellie and then buries Rachel in the burial ground.

It seems like the latest trailer reveal basically the entire plot (like that disgusting Get Out trailer) ?

Thank god I scrolled down the comment before watching the trailer.

Why did they change who gets resurrected? Did they have no faith in an undead baby being scary? The original movie did that so what the hell?

Wow. What a massive twist to totally give away in the marketing? Were they afraid ppl would avoid it knowing the originals main hook so they made the changes public knowledge? I dont hate it personally, and I think its actually a bit more mean spirited TBH. But man.. it might have been this years big shock and they give it away in the GD poster even if you avoid the trailers.

Also the kids acting evil with the masks are still a stupid change.. and I hope its just the spirit in the woods ****ing with Louis.. but its probably just a weird change. Clearly theyve shown theyre not keeping it a 1:1 remake now.

If they wanted to do this they should have made the daughter the youngest child.

Also can we stop calling it a twist? It seems they arent presenting this as a twist. It's just how they are adapting the story and they and the film is being open about it.

And I wonder if they did this because they have an actual crazy twist and they are hoping to make audiences lower their guard by making them think the big thing has been spoiled in the trailer?

I’m still thinking Gage getting killed and coming back will be the final, final twist to the story.

Well I suspect its going to keep the downbeat ending for Rachel.. and I cant see Gauge not being home with his family. I mean, they could have him at a grandparents house.. but I think theyll try to milk the tension. I suspect this movie ends with no survivors for the Creed family this time. Super bleak ending for the family.

I really wish some of you guys would use spoiler tags. Not all of us have read the book, studied the script, and/or watched the original movie. I would not like to know how it might turn out

Yeah, I'm thinking and hoping it's a Red Herring as well. Trailer seemed to show way too much. But from what I've heard about the script, it doesn't seem like a misdirection. Of course, it's always possible to make changes from the script as you go along making the movie.

If we don't get a CG Gage running around like a madman ****ing up people I boycott. :o
