Wow. Is this really worth the finger energy to complain about? Optimus Prime saying "my bad" in this movie isn't going against this stoic and stiff and formal personality. It REINFORCES the personality. Its not like he's going to completely destroy the Winslow's kitchen, look into the camera with his hands on his cheeks and say MY BADDD. All it is doing is showing Prime trying to interact a little more with humans and in this particular case a teenage human but being too Optimus-y to ever really "get it". BIG DEAL.

And just to make another point. I'm a white rapper and I hear the term "my bad" get used way more by older white women than I hear it used in the hip hop culture. Yes it was born from the hip hop culture but as soon as any piece of slang gets to the "my bad" and "fo shizzle" level it is immediately disowned by the street. My mom says my bad.

Anyway, its a nice little throwaway joke for the general audience and will probably end up making Optimus more appealing to the general audience. The writer's have to be sure he won't get the Superman effect. He shouldn't be TOO nice and stoic and formal leader guy to the point he might be boring.

On the other hand, if I wind up hearing "my bad" after Optimus takes out a Decepticon as a one liner then I'll be right behind blind_fury in the hate line. I guess we dont really know what we're going to get yet.

I have used the phrase "my bad" many times. And I am not into hip hop or R&B at all. Im all about heavy metal and rock. Prime saying it really doesnt seem to be an issue. I see it as Prime using earth slang to try to "fit in" so to speak.

Christopher Nolan was not a huge believer in doing that to Batman, however he did inject humor WITHOUT stepping outside of Batman/Bruce's character. "Does it come in black", "I need it for...Sperlunking", "You know you're out at night, looking for kicks, someone is passing around the weaponized halucinagen", "Nice Coat" weren't said out of character and therefore did not come off as awkward or stupid. .

I thought those were pretty ******ed, in character or not. Typical Goyer dialogue that desperately tries to sound clever yet fails miserably.
I was actually referring to what Frank Miller usually does with Batman. Take Dark Knight Returns for example, where Batman adopts Robin's syntaxe in that scene where she asks him something like "I figure you gonna die or what?" to which replies "Figure I will".

I don't really remember its ending. Some weird thing happened that made no sense. What you will find is plenty of hip stuff during the bits when fred, daphne, and velma become hip for some reason. It's mostly just a bunch of bad cgi and a silly farting contest, lcd stuff, but if that's your kind of film, I won't judge u 4 it. tis all mere opinion I guess.

So b/c i think it's fine to have Prime say "my bad" in a comedic moment i must have taste that would like a recognized POS movie ?

It's not about hip or r&b... whoever made that connection or keeps trying to make it seem like it matters (DorkyFresh?) is totally off. Prime saying narley would be just as stupid (if not moreso).

It's about Optimus Prime not being the type of character to try and do exactly what you say in your last sentence. Prime scanned the entire Net. I'm sure he consulted a proper dictionary. If you (us, anybody) don't speak that way to your elders, to your subordinates, to your boss, your professor, or in a professional job interview then it's bad speech.... and Prime saying it seems stupid and, more importantly, out of character.

People who have no problem with it might be right. It might be a throwaway phrase to make Optimus more likeable to the general audience. We'll just have to see how far they push it though. If at the end of the movie he's a hip, cool, (I think someone called him cute) robot then I'm going to say, "Damn, they turned him into Jazz/BB". It won't surprise me a bit if they mix up his personality with the others. They did it with the designs, what's to stop them from doing it with the characterization. Look at BB and Jazz...those designs would have remained closer to the source material if they had them switched...but they are as they are. So yeah, you guys may be right...but you might not either and we'll get a mish mash of unrecognizable characterization that will alienate pre-existing fans even more.

Yeah, this'll be the last I'll speak on it. I just get tired of people who pass off our concerns as whining. But man...I wouldn't be "whining" if this wasn't something I really loved. It may be a stupid 80s cartoon to most of the movie viewers but Transformers is something I've loved for almost 23 years now and I just want to see it done with taste and consideration. Opposed to what most people think, Transformers is very story reliant...otherwise it would've faded away a long time ago along with GoBots.

Just make it good Bay...make it good and quit being so concerned about leaving your mark and instead focus on making a damned good movie.

No, but I want to make it clear why people are apprehensive about this line. It could be the tip of the iceberg for corny crap lines.

I think fanboys are being too negative towards bay, but I also understand why. Basically it's because we all know hollywood is dumb enough to make this movie suck when it could easily not.

He was mis-speaking all the basketball terms. Calling dribbling "drooling" and such.

There's others, i just can't think of them right now. The basketball one was just an example of how dumb and un-Prime like, Prime sounds when he tries to be 'hip'.

Dude, just read the threads. It's not hard.

Lots of folks have summed it up pretty eloquently. I can't speak for anyone else, but my problem is that I was never a fan of Gobots. Or the whole vibe of Rodimus Prime. Hence, my problems with this movie.
