During the 2015 city tour of a new 2K scanned restored version of the 1982 Rankin Bass cult animated fantasy as writer/author/creator Peter S Beagle has announced he is gonna write a script for a new live-action film based on the beloved 1968 epic fantasy novel.

Sounds cool man! i dug the animated film since i was a kid and i dug the book since junior high, i gotta say i always thought a live-action adaptation would have potential.

I'd love to see Alfonso Cauron as director with Guillermo Del Toro, Peter S Beagle and James Cameron as excecutive producers and for studios should be Carolco, Fox and MGM. WETA and Rick Baker/Tom Savini should do effects.

My ideal cast:

Emily Browning *Drools* as Lady Amalthea and Unicorn's voice.
Joel Moore from Avatar and Grandma's Boy as Schmendrick.
Helen Bonnie Carter as Molly.
Patrick Stewart or Doug Bradley or Robert Englund or Alan Rickman as King Haggard.
Kane Hodder or Lou Ferringo as Ruhk.
Linda Hunt as Mommy Fortuna.
Ron Perlman as Captain Cully.
Robbie Coltrane or Jim Cummings as Cat's voice.

Sir Christopher Lee has wanted to play Haggard in a live-action adaptation for a LONG TIME. If he's still around by the time the movie starts production, then he should be the first person that they call.

Very interesting. Solid casting too, Hordak.

I would cast Sarah Gadon as Amalthea/Unicorn. You want someone so beautiful it almost hurts men to look at her. As a Canadian, she can probably do a neutral transatlantic accent as well.

I would love EITHER a live action or CGI animated reselling of THE LAST UNICORN. The original is such a grand little tale, done so well. The voice cast just fits like a glove. And what other "kids" film of the 80's has regret as it's big emotional finale?

What has Beagle said about the Rankin/Bass production? I never read the book or seen what his opinion of the animated film was. For myself it's simply an amazing experience. Some of the imagery really scared me as a child but also enchanted me.

Thanks man, you like my choices especially Pinhead/Lylesberg from Nightbreed himself, Freddy Krueger and Picard as Haggard?

Do you also like my ideal producers and make up artists and director?

Now Carolco should definitely be the studio for this film since they are coming back this year and could do a fantasy as they had done drama, comedy, sci-fi, action, one animated film, few horror films etc. but never a fantasy film.

Nice choice for Amalthea too but how about Emily Browning? she won my heart since i saw Sucker Punch in theaters.:ilv:

Tyler Bates or Hans Zimmer should do the score and i like to see Chris Pine as Lir.

A live-action version is what i mean and yes i grew up with Rankin Bass's classic animated film since i was 4 years old 30 years ago when i rented it on video and it became a fave just like Star Wars trilogy, Dark Crystal, Secret of NIMH, Robin Hood, Pinocchio, The Hobbit and so much more. I found it to be an enchanting and dark animated film, plus i remembered having a crush on Lady Amalthea (the unicorn as a human chick) as i thought she was the hottest animated gal i ever saw along with Teela on He-Man, Adora on SheRa, Neefa Feefa from Dr Seuss's Pontello Pock, Daphne on Scooby Doo, Teegra on Fire and Ice, Angel in Rock and Rule, Cleo on Heathcliff, Cheetara etc. :ilv: and definitely on par with the likes of Black Cat, Taarna from Heavy Metal, Judy Jetson, Kida from Atlantis etc. in terms of sexy white haired chicks, LOL.

I read the book in junior high as i dug it as it was a well written and well done fantasy book and became one of my favorite fantasy novels. I even got the graphic novel which is a good adaptation of the book and i got the CD soundtrack by America which i dug the band and since i am a fan of the band since the film made me a fan the soundtrack i owned mainly for that relaxing song "Man's Road" which is one of my fave songs by that band.

I always wondered what a live action version would be like and looks like things are coming true. Afterall Harry Potter and LOTR franchises have made fantasy profitable and it makes sense now.

Enjoy. A cover of THE LAST UNICORN song with imagery from the fantasy film LEGEND. Well done. [YT]QjfsbPnIgVI[/YT]

That's cool but the best song in the old movie is "Man's Road" as i own the CD soundtrack just for that song which is one of my fave America songs.
