Rise of the Silver Surfer PG Rating: DISCUSSION

I actually think these films would have been better as animated films, you can do a lot more with a smaller budget, it would have been perfect for Fox. Smaller budget, short runtime, PG rating, extra kiddy friendly...I'm surprised they didn't do it that way.
You really would have liked an animated movie version of the Silver Surfer than a live action version?

That would be cool, if someone can draw:

Have Bugs Bunny stretch his ears and hands to be Mr. Fantastic

Draw Babs Bunny as part invisible.

Draw Taz as though he was made of rocks...

And draw Daffy Duck on fire.

That would really be something cool to see.

Like I said, if they got talented artists to work on a computer animated version of F4, I'm sure the SS would have looked just as good as he does in ROTSS.

No, Daffy is Dr. Duck...always trying to trick Mr. Bugstastic that it is rabbit season!

Who would be a Johnny Storm then?

And think it may actually be better if- Dr. Fudd. "eh,eh,eh- pesky rabit"

Dr. Duck sounds better. Plus, we get the "You're despicable" when he loses.

For the Torch, we get the Human Tweet!!! Plus, Tweetie can fly!

Man, I would totally watch this movie!

I like this FF/Looney Tunes idea myself. I'd watch that movie too--couldn't be worse than Back in Action. :o

Even though I think the PG rating is highly stupid...I guess I will stop worrying and just give it a chance and not complain about it so much...I really wish it was just PG-13 because of the stuff they can get away with.

Though Fantastic Four is a lighter comic every movie does need its darker scenes. Fantastic Four 1 did a good job with it.

So let's just hope this doesn't turn out to be a kiddy film or a "family happy everything's good film."

I'll try to keep my hopes up for the new rating...

There's nothing stupid about the PG rating. The rating itself allows what is neccessary for this franchise. There's no need for vulgarity, sexual nudity, or drug references is there? I think some studios are just afraid of the rating and have been for sometime. Hell even the first film should have been PG minus a small unneccesary scene. You shouldn't focus on the rating but the actual movie. It's a family film that should include young ones. Look at the action with the Silver Surfer we've seen so far that's awesome including the shot where he pummels the military as bodies fly everywhere in the fire, or the shot of The Thing slamming Dr. Doom. The scenes with Johnny, etc...This movie should be fun for everyone and the PG-13 rating is what's stupid. It's contrived window dressing and not needed.

We all have our opinions...

I think it's stupid, you don't.

No...

But this isn't Raiders of the Lost Ark. Raiders of the Lost Ark was PG because PG-13 didn't exist, right?

Some elements in that could make it PG-13 today easily.

I'm just saying, the fact that this is a superhero movie, and it's PG, there's a possibility of it being more kiddy than other films.

Will it? I don't know for a fact, but there's a possibility.

Well, Estonian rating for FF2 is L (= lubatud kõigile aka allowed for everyone) which is probably like G in MPAA standards.

But Estonians have always had very low ratings. For example Grindhouse and 28 Weeks Later are there only K14 (no under 14 year olds). If I remember correctly The Punisher was MS12 (no under 12 year olds). Hostel 2 and The Hills Have Eyes 2 are K16 (I think that is their highest rating).

LOL!

All those movies, and younger kids could watch them?!:D

Man, I'm going to need more popcorn. Albafan, do you need another coke?

>^^<

I'll go pop some popcorn as well...

And yes, you can have a dark PG film. And as the story progresses it does, naturally become dark.

The end of the world and Susan Storm supposedly dies!

Yes I know it didn't exist then but the point is as kids who grew up back then some of the best films were available to us under a PG rating. Anything too hard core was rated R. Those awesome PG films are few and far between. Not because the PG films are bad...but because they don't make enough of them and take into consideration the new ratings. National Treasure was a great film but the box office was kind of shocking and how well it held up. It wasn't until later I realized it was PG. That helped quite a bit and nobody complained about that rating.

The bottom line is FF is and should be a PG franchise. Perhaps the DVD will spice it up to a harder rating or non-rating. It will still be nothing that changes the film dramatically. If the Thing said the F world and the torch was smoking pot would that make it a better film? Would showing blood squirting out of Dr. Doom's neck make a better film for this franchise? No.

Yeah, I would venture to say that the "R"s of yesteryear are pretty much PG13's .... and the R's of today are the hard "R"s of yesteryear....thats the way it looks to me, and I've been around for quite awhile....

It was before PG-13 existed, though. It was either PG or R, and it doesn't deserve an R.

True but they wanted to give it an R at first(which the ammount of blood in Quint's death alone makes it worthy of by today's standards) but Speilberg appealed & got the PG rating by saying shark violence isn't something young people are likely to immitate(unlike the violence in say, the Godfather). I'm just hoping this movie really is a PG-13 that's managed to pull a similar fast one and snag the PG rating. Probably too much to hope for though.

For those UK fans reading, I had forgotten, the first movie was actually a PG as well. Despite stuff like Doom blasting a hole in a guys chest....

Oh yeah Matt. I forgot that in the UK it was PG but they call it something else. If they don't call it something else than it was also the equivelent of PG in another Country too. There's actually a thread about this in the old forums. Good recollection.
