Ant-Man Phase 2 or 3?

Much of the general audience already views Ant Man as a skip, due to what played out in the press as a studio dealing with a terrible script that no director wanted to work on until they got far enough down the Hollywood ladder to find someone willing. It doesn't matter if thats true...it just matters if people were affected by all of that press...and I think that a portion of the audience certainly was. Add in the fact that we are almost guaranteed to get "Honey, I Shrunk the Superhero" headlines and some people might wait for the Netflix.

Thats not the general audience. Thats the Edgar Wright fanclub. Portion of the audience yeah... MUCH of the general public? I don't think so.

I think you are giving the general public way too much credit here, they are not following the ins and outs of studio back dealings and script issues.

They see the Marvel logo, they see the trailer, the toys. Thats what they see. IMHO.

Yeah. I know people who like these movies, and wouldn't necessarily know who Ant-Man is at the moment, let alone any behind-the-scenes stuff. To the GA they're just movies. They don't care who did what in the pre-production stages.

End of Phase II, start of Phase III - doesn't really matter it's still coming out July 2015 between Age of Ultron & Civil War.

Or, it could be a blockbuster...but unlike every other Marvel movie so far, this one is not generating heat with the general audience. They will need to deliver a heck of a trailer and hype it like its an essential film.

1) The general audience doesn't even know Ant Man exists, let alone view it as a skip.

2) I think you've completely misunderstood the whole Marvel/Wright situation. Feige praised the script many times over the years, the reason it was hard to find a new director was because it was so late in the pre-production process.

I wouldn't be surprised if the teaser in tonight's Marvel doc is the first many people have heard of the movie.

I don't particularly care. The "phases" are just arbitrary splits in the filmography, so I don't apply to much significance to them to begin with.
I did raise my eyebrow a bit when I heard that however, so I'll be interested to see how/if they really conclude phase 2 on that note.

They're not really though. Feige has explained that the end of one phase is characterised by an Avengers movie. So making it Ant-Man means there has been a change of plans since then. Whether it matters or not is the question. I think it matters not!
