Marvel Films Phase Five

Dunno what to tell you. Is it odd? Sure but they obviously have their reasons for keeping quiet on it. We've known about Werewolf by Night for a year and they just now decided to officially announce it a month before it comes out. I doubt they'll wait that long to talk about Deadpool 3 but it seems like they are fine keeping quiet until they are ready to.
Releasing a logo and announcing a release date doesn't mean they are going to spill everything.

We know nothing about the Fantastic Four, and the logo was released years ago.

Yeah, it was bizarre that Werewolf By Night and the Guardians Holiday Special didn't show up on the SDCC graphics. And they still haven't actually said anything about the Guardians today, either, despite the fact that we know that has already filmed and is officially supposed to release this Christmas.

I don't know why they're treating some projects this way, but they are. I have no doubt whatsoever Deadpool 3 is getting made. When it comes out is impossible to say for sure yet, but it is happening.

Given that they didn't announce any film for February 2024, it could be possible they're keeping a spot open in case there is a Spiderman film in 2024. While Sony could theoretically pick any date, I think they'll go for July, since that is where Homecoming and Far From Home opened, and where No Way Home was originally going to open. This would force Marvel to shift Cap 4, and Thunderbolts. While the obvious solution would be to move both up a slot, I think they'd still want the former in the may slot, while the latter feels like a good fit for February.

At this point, I would argue that the Holiday Special is just like another 5min-Episode of I Am Groot. And every promotion of this would not justify the product. With Werewolf, I think they were scared since its really experimental.

Yeah thats a good possibility.

Thunderbolts is more fitting for February than Captain America though.

I said that very thing about Thunderbolts if you read correctly.

I wonder why Sony didn't fast track a Home movie for 2023, and keep the two-year gap between Home movies, especially after the gigantic success of No Way Home.

Well if you’re talking about Tom holland and another Spider-Man movie I believe after far from home his contract was up!! He then signed a 2 picture deal. 1- was for no way home 2- for an upcoming “avengers type” movie!! Think ball is in Sonys court now

Speaking of that mysterious February 2024 movie...

So its...

11/03 - Blade
6 months gap
05/03 - Cap 4
07/28 - Thunderbolts
09/06 - ???
11/08 - F4
6 months gap
05/02 - Avengers

So we have 4 movies in 6 months. This will be an overkill, isnt it?
These movies are bad scheduled.

It's not so different than what we got last year (4 movies in 6 months as well). But yea I would have preferred the Feb spot.

It's still two years away and small date adjustments aren't uncommon. They may still spread them out again, anyway.

this was because of the pandemic

I like the fact that Disney is more confident in releasing blockbuster movies in September after how successful Shang-Chi ($75M 3-day/$94M 4-day) was on Labor Day weekend 2021.

And since they booked the post Labor Day spot for 2024, it means that they're looking to dethrone WB's $123M opening for IT.

I really like how Marvel and Disney are basically making the entire calendar fair game for blockbuster releases. Now they need to look at January in the coming future...

I‘d rather have 4 movies every 3 months, than 4 movies within 6 months ne 6 months of nothing. Doesn’t do for me to look at the calendar and celebrate the shedule, because it fits with murican Holidayweekends.

Because it wasn't before? I'm fairly certain that blockbusters could make their stake in certain, less appealing months well before the MCU. I like the MCU as much as the next guy, but to say that they're responsible for making the entire calendar fair game for blockbusters, I find that dubious at best.

Then again, if I ask certain people, they may say Iron Man was the first comic book movie, so people will go with whatever narrative makes sense to them, I suppose.

Yeah I think 4 movies in 6 months is a bit of overkill especially when you factor in the Disney+ shows. But on the other hand you have Cap 4, Thunderbolts, and F4 so that’s a great lineup. I’m guessing they will fill the 6 months gap with the Disney+ shows.

Another thing to keep in mind is that as soon as the next MCU movie arrives in theaters, the previous one will land on Disney+. So they’re fueling Disney+ content consistently that way.

It took the effort of several studios well over a decade, particularly Disney and WB, to realize the benefit of the year-round blockbuster schedule. Because before 2007, studios would NEVER open a big movie in spring -- it was usually summer or Thanksgiving/Christmas.

And the likes of IT, Venom, Joker and Shang-Chi blew away any perception that movies can't do summer-type blockbuster numbers while kids are in school.

So if DDC relly helms Avengers 5, Wonderman, American born Chinese AND Shang Chi 2 he‘ll end up doing a „Jon Watts“

There are also yet-to-be announced Marvel movies slated for February 14, 2025 and July 25, 2025. So 4 movies in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 (plus Tom Holland Spider-Man movies).

It's crazy how Disney has the most prime release spots booked through 2026. Other studios have to schedule around them. Only when Disney rarely abandons a prime spot (like they did with Christmas 2018 and 2023), do the rivals take advantage.
