Marvel Films Phase Five

Consider me very excited for Ant-Man 3. The Fantastic Four are going to come. So are the X-Men. I am sure we will get Easter eggs sprinkled before their formal movies are made. I'm willing to have patience with them on those two properties just to make sure they're as excellent as possible once they are introduced. Besides, at this point Ant-Man's story is almost done if we look at it as a trilogy. I'm perfectly okay with topping that off before we move on to the next big thing

Ant-Man 3 and no F4 or X-Men in sight. Yes, I am annoyed. I guess I'm a toxic fan

If there is one Phase 4 movie I have next to no interest in, it's this- right alongside Widow. Marvel dragging their feet with this slate imo. I'm excited for all of the Disney + material besides Loki
"Dragging their feet" because they are not introducing YOUR fan-favorite characters? Dragging their feet because they are giving oppooirtunities to obscure characters to become A-listers like they have been doing since THE BEGINNING OF THE MCU? What has changed exactly? Itsn that the MCU's MO?

Do you honestly believe Feige treats movies like Black Widow, Eternals or Shang-chi as "desserts" before he gets to the main meal? I assure you he doesn't. And i assure you that turning every bit of a D or an E-listers into a B or a C-list is the main reason for the MCU's success. Istead of hiding behind Spider-man, Hulk or the X-men and doing nothing to strengthen the overall brand.

Is it official that there's Ant-Man 3? Or is it still a rumour?

Obviously I'd rather hear news about F4 or the X-men than Ant-man 3, but Ant-man is a literal billion dollar franchise they've been working on for decades so it's actually surprising an announcement for the 3rd took this long.

You’re not toxic but I do think you’re somewhat impatient. Fiege had plans for the MCU beyond End Game well before the Fox buyout was on the table, so just throwing that to the side in favor of rushing the new toys to the shelf wouldn’t be ideal at all. And honestly I'm not even sure he was legally allowed to start working on F4/X-men up until a few months ago, and these things take time.

To me, it's like this - a poor College student only having money to eat Ramen everyday. Suddenly, they are blessed with 5000 dollars. Yet, instead treating themselves to a gourmet meal at Applebees, they keep on keeping on with the Ramen noodles.

Now, I understand that's not the best analogy. But It's no secret that Marvel had to settle* for lesser-known characters because they didn't have access to their golden fleece. But they do now

Now I also understand why Feige would stay on track with the model that has made the MCU a success - but we're getting into D-list territory with some of these properties now- along with films that do not need to be made.

Anyway, those are just my personal opinions.

Very much this. When you rush out a product, you get something like Iron Man 2. Which I doubt is anyone's favorite MCU movie. Feige has had this plan in place and it's better for him to follow that plan as opposed to rush anything. When we get a Fantastic Four or X-Men movie in the MCU, I want a higher quality than Iron Man 2 movie.

We've been in D-list territory for a while now. Who had heard of the Guardians before the film came out? Now household names. Past the really popular characters like Spidey, Hulk, Captain America etc. all the comic book characters were pretty much completely unknown to the general public.

For the MCU to continue long term, Marvel needs to translate those D-listers into characters which can carry film franchises. If they fast-track X-men and F4, they're going to run out of track pretty quickly. The way they're doing things we're getting a couple of phases building more obscure characters into household names, and then in about five years time the MCU will get a further breath of fresh air with the X-men and F4.

Run out of track? The X-Men can support a universe all on it's own. There is at minimum 20 years worth of films in that franchise.

And the F4 mythos accounts for like 40% of the major Cosmic characters. Doom alone can carry multiple phases, add Kang to that list too.

Honestly, even if Marvel made a movie about White Fox, Luna Snow and Crescent, completely in Korean I'd watch it and probably love it. It honestly makes me so happy that the MCU is able to lift relatively unknown characters like the Guardians, Winter Soldier, and even characters like Quake and Jessica Jones out of obscurity. A big problem in the comics has been that only titles with the name of a known character will sell, meaning only the same old characters and legacy characters like Riri Williams get anything and only those characters get love from the writers. They keep reusing the same characters and remixing things in the same ways and honestly it's getting stale. I want obscure and new heroes with their own identities to rise to prominence and be given the same care, instead of only ever doing iron people, spider-people, gamma people, X-Men, etc. over and over.

Which is exactly why it is paramount to make sure these characters are done right and executed properly. If you squander the X-Men or the Fantastic Four, then all that Universe building you're talking about won't amount to anything. They have to get those ones right in order to build the way that they should be able to with those characters. I don't think Iron Man 2 or Thor The Dark World quality is going to work for that reason. Is something like Shang-Chi ends up just okay, then no big deal. They can easily rebound off that. Plus that project has been in development longer. More thought and planning has gone into that project at this point in time. It makes more sense to get the projects that are further along off the board before rushing something else out, especially things that are going to be the linchpins of your Universe going forward

I want better movies like Thor 2 or Iron Man 2 but implying those are bad films is unfair. The fact that they are bottom tier MCU speaks more about the average quality of the MCU than the individual quality of those films.

Need i remind some people that both films have gotten decent critical, box office and audience approval? They are definitely not Venom, Green Lantern, Suicide Squad, Justice League, BvS or Dark Phoenix.

They're not terrible films, but they're not the quality I expect from more important franchises like the X-Men or Fantastic Four. My expectations are much higher than those

X-men maybe. F4 have been so mishandled a mediocre movie will appear like Infinity War compared to the latest efferots. I personally dont think that either of the MCU versions will mediocre. The mediocre MCU movies are the minority IMO.

I agree with you. I was just explaining what Liefeld meant because you and Kuwolski were seemingly taking that to mean something like he would be the only returning big name, or he would be the most successful character left, neither of which are what Liefeld said.

I didn't intend to imply any of this, only that Reynolds is as established in his role as anyone in the MCU at the moment and the way it happend is extremely impressive. That cannot be ignored by Feige or anyone.

I did read more into the tweet then it probably deserved, but I'm sure that DP will be one of the major players in the MCU over the next couple of Phases.

The Fantastic Four will not become the next major MCU property with a mediocre movie. The very fact that the prior efforts have been poor means that their effort has to be even greater. If we get adjust okay MCU Fantastic Four movie, their ceiling becomes Ant-Man level at best. I think we all know they should be higher up on the food chain and more popular than that.

Quality is not linked with box office. Aquaman is the definition of a mediocre cbm as shown byt it's reception and audience scores and yet it grossed 1.1 billion. Same with Captain Marvel. An ok F4 movie doesn't mean that it will have Ant-man numbers.

Aquaman was a new IP. JL doesn't count as that wasn't a solo. The FF are not new. The audience have a negative perception of the brand. So another mediocre FF movie further solidified that they're lame. See TIH. People hated the And Lee version and TIH was not well liked either. Hence it's low returns. That's why it must be good

Ant-Man 3 is a no brainer though Xpecially the ones getting a solo film are guaranteed for a solo trilogy with just 1 eXception.

Did you eXpect them to release F4 and X-Men before Ant-Man 3 Xpecially Dark PhoeniX is more recent than the last Ant-Man film? Anyway, Feige already mentioned they are coming.

I hope it gets the early 2022 date.

Anyone want to take a guess as to what the February 2022 Marvel film could be?

I wouldn't be surprised if its Blade, since they already have the lead actor and a logo for it. But I prefer if they release the 2quels/3quels first before Blade, Fantastic Four and Mutants.

But that wasn't the question. The question isn't what would you like that solo to be, it is what do you think it is going to be? I think Blade having a lead actor and having formerly been announced already gives it an edge.

I'm curious why people think its Blade. It wasn't even in development until Mahershala Ali called Marvel personally. Plus all focus is on Spider-Man 3 right now.
