Comics Phoenix - Warsong

wait til you see the last frame...not only does it set it up for another, but one with a bad angle...sheesh
Have you read the last issue already? Can you post spoilers please?? (in spoiler tags in case somebody doesn't want to be spoiled. Thanx

I wonder if people were this hateful towards the cover in pheonix endsong with Cyclops holding a dead emma in his arms...a homage to the him holding jean in his arm from the dark pheonix saga....???........I don't think this cover is that bad.....

I would hate that as well lol, I think I would hate that even more lol.

The cover is great IMO but the lack of originality, and the art inside the comic are just horrible.

X-Men: Phoenix -- Warsong #5 will arrive in stores on Feb. 7 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Greg Pak, with art by Tyler Kirkham and a cover by Marc Silvestri.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"Who dares challenge the judgment of the Phoenix? The showdown at the Weapons Plus super-soldier creation facility known as 'The World' reaches its shocking climax as the Cuckoos embrace their destiny -- and Emma Frost makes the most terrifying decision of her life."

Whoa!!!!.......hmmmmm guess that I have to wait and see waht happends... interesting, but copycat........

Thanks for the link Specter! I didn't remember some of those covers. I don't really like this Phoenix Warsong cover because the art is not on the level of Land's (yes, I'm a big fan of Land). Besides, plotwise I still prefer the Endsong one. On the contrary, even if I love the Endsong cover with Scott holding Emma in his arms, I prefer the Byrne one with Jean because its more meaningful.

I can't wait to read this last issue to see how Pak deals with these thousands of "Stepford Phoenixes". I just hope he doesn't kill the three regular Cuckoos because I really like them.

I think it's kinda unfair to compare Kirkham's work to Land. I mean, I may not a fan of Kirkham's at all, but I really do think that Land was on the league of his own. Which means, his style is so distinctive that you can't mistaken it being drawn by any other artists but him. I do love Land though.

But if you draw something based on something drawn by another person, it's inevitable that your work gets compared to the original. I think this Warsong cover is a good homage to the original, but I just prefer the original (both artwise and plotwise)

Anyone picked it up yet?

Stores around here always get the stuff one day late for some reason. :(

Yes, I just did, here you have a summary:

The issue picks up from where the last one ended but somehow the Cuckoos now can turn their bodies in diamond form just like Emma (you can see this in the preview pages) and the Phoenix is trapped inside their diamond bodies. The X-Men confront Sublime and his "Avatars" (cables and screens) and, when the Cuckoos are about to attack, Colossus raises the floor to stop the fire. They start to think about an escape plan and Agent Oh tells Scott that the facility's power core is below them and that he could blow it up with his eye beam. The explotion would take out everything around them and Kitty would phase them. Scott rejects the idea because of the thousand Cuckoos girls (Scott doesn't want to kill them). They soon realize that Emma's not around and that she's talking with the Cuckoos. She starts being *****y with the girls and they shoot her some fire to kill her but Scott saves her. Then Emma tells Scott that the fire won't hurt them because Celeste's holding her sisters back. Phoebe starts rambling around being the thousand-in-one and having a lot of power that they don't need anybody, but Celeste does and she tells the X-Men to destroy the machinery that connects them. They do that and the Cuckoos start to lose power. Kitty phases through Mindee and shorts out the nanotech in her bones and now it's just Celeste and Phoebe. The last one uses the rest of her Phoenix powers to punch the power grid to try and blow everything. After some pep talk Celeste changes into the Phoenix outfit and stops time. She then talks about the Phoenix judging her thousands of sisters and she burns them all (not Phoebe or Mindee, just the others). The Phoenix couldn't let them live because they were created to erase mutantkind. Then she fights the Phoenix and it goes into Phoebe and Mindee, but Celeste uses her power to freeze the Phoenix inside their (now) diamond hearts. The Phoenix will never escape but they won't feel a thing (emotions or anything). They go back to the X-Mansion and we can read Emma's thoughts about how her sisters are perfectly healthy but they're not the same people they were before this Warsong thing, they're just cold like they were at the beginning. And in the last page she mourns her daughters and just wonders herself who the Phoenix is, Jean Grey gone insane or if it's just obeying some cosmic laws. She doesn't know, but what she knows for sure is that when the Phoenix comes back, it's going to have to deal with her. END

It was a good issue, but not what I expected. If I'm not wrong Pak said in an interview that we would understand the Phoenix/Jean status but I know the same I did when this started.

well I didnt like the cover either with the Cuckoos posing as Jean. Glad Silvestriy gave credit to Land though

This mini was horrible and a waste. I hope Part 3 is better. So Emma is waiting for Phoenix and is planning on taking her out? Uh puh-leaze! I cant wait for Jean to return and wipe the floor with her azz

I thought it wasn't that bad....this mini was to give a origin to the cuckoo's and it did just that and even added a new feature that makes them closer to their mother.....diamond........hearts......the pheonix is haunting emma alot....cyke's girls should know that already...interesting to see how the cuckoo's is gonna act now.....part three is this on the way

I think Silvestri didn't copy the Endsong cover. More like paying homage, since Warsong is an off sequel of Endsong. But anyway, I do agree that the arc is just a waste.

Why does Marvel continue to mess with the Phoenix mythos? Just leave it alone. They said they wanted to explain and explore it but they've only made it more complicated and convoluted than ever before

The whole Phoenix being caged within diamond hearts is stupid. First of all its only a small fragment of the Phoenix force. Jean as Phoenix is still out there and powered up and there are several other fragments. So the Cuckoos locked one (I guess now 3) fragment up. So what? Its not like the Phoenix is gone bc its still out there. This solution fixxed nothing and I dont know what the end of this mini was supposed to accomplish

Setting up a catfight? :D

But yeah, I'll admit the diamond thingy had me scratching my head in wonder.

Glad this title is over. However, I need the artist to get put on a main X-book b/c his Colossus is AWESOME!!!
