Just about everything looks and sounds cool but I don't like the fact that the royal navy is back in this. Hopefully their screentime is limited.

While those are good points I still think Lucas sucks. I'm also against the idea that he's comparable to Spielberg, Scorsese and other great directors. I remember seeing those comparisons in lists and when people name the greats. Just because he made a huge franchise full of rabid, overly obsessed fanboys doesn't mean he should be included in that group of directors. They deserve to be up on high in the film world because they actually made numerous films that were great, not just two or three.

Anyways I can't wait to see a trailer for the new Pirates film. I've got my fingers crossed this one will be on the level of Curse of the Black Pearl.

How does he suck exactly though? It's fine to have an opinion of his films, but he's an incredible storyteller. He's nowhere near the quality of films of Spielberg and Scorsese, but he is just as influential. He inspired Scott to make Alien, James Cameron to quit his job as a truck driver, Peter Jackson waiting for a whole year to see it and had a huge impact on his life and movies, and Roland Emmerich to make Independence Day. Without Lucas and SW entering my life, movies wouldn't be as prominant as they are now. The man really did change my life at five years old. He blew open my mind and laid the foundations of what seemed impossible on film. He proved everybody wrong. He's also was one of the reasons why I wanted to become a filmmaker at 13 along with Jackson and Raimi.

And I think you're generalzing on calling SW fans overly obsessive fanboys. There's fanboys like that for every single thing here on the Hype. There's fanboys that will get pissed off and have been pissed off, but there's fanboys like that for Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, etc. The hate for Lucas and SW is out of control. Without him, movies would be nowhere near what they are today. People forget that.

Love the pictures. And the info sounds brilliant. A cool stand alone adventure! I'm really looking forward to this. If Jack finds the fountain of youth does that mean he won't age and we'll get more Pirate films for the next 20 years?

The only thing now that needs to be confirmed is little Jack the monkey.

I was watching this pirate show on tv related to the movies and they mentioned how barbosa was based on black beard. now with the actual black beard in the film does this make barbosa redundant?

Maybe I was being a bit too harsh on the man, and I do agree with you that he is a good storyteller. I guess I just want to see him make a new movie of some kind, see what else he has in him other than hanging onto SW until he dies.

If my information is correct, the trailer will be online on Yahoo Trailers on Monday, Decmeber 13th. So yes, there will be HD versions.

I'm 100% with you on this. I used to bash Lucas then one day I realized I didn't even know why I was doing it.

It's not that it's wrong, I just don't put him up on a pedestal like so many others. My beef with him is mainly in regards to being a director not necessarily a storyteller or creator. My argument mainly stemmed from what I said earlier about hearing him put up with director's like Spielberg and Scorsese, I don't think he's proven himself as a great director like them is all.

I'm also on board for another Indiana Jones film, so long as they keep the cheese down. KotCS wasn't that bad but some of the cheesy parts were pretty annoying.

Yeah, Lucas has never been that great of a director. He's even admitted it himself and he even admitted to being "the king of wooden dialogue." I wouldn't put him on the greatest director's list myself, but in terms of influence, I would. The original SW is driven by a terrific story with memorable characters. The movie just blew minds back in 1977. No one had seen anything like that before. A great filmmaker does that. It blew my mind at five years old. I'd say Lucas directed a great film out of ANH after everything he went through. ANH may not seem as incredible as it once was, but without that, the stuff we see today wouldn't be here without it. We owe alot more to Lucas than we think.

Like the other two sequels (flaws that people refuse to see and put them on such a pedastal), there are things in KOTCS I could have done without, but I still love it. It's Indiana Jones.

Actually, I think many people kinda realize that the Indiana Jones sequels aren't on par with Raiders, unlike the Star Wars Trilogy. Even now, people have warmed up to Return of the Jedi.

I don't know about you, but I think a lot people can argue that Empire Strikes Back is not just of the rare great sequel that has inspired many films today (and filmmakers like Chris Nolan and Edgar Wright), but pretty much a perfect film all around. So please, back up your argument. It's kinda hard if you're up to it.

Well I think the first film (A New Hope) is a great adventure movie and a great template in how to do a movie of that caliber right. And with Empire, see above for my take.

But my point is that I think most people understand that the Indy sequels are fun, but the quality doesn't hold up as well to 'Raiders'. Still fun movies, but strictly on a popcorn level, while 'Raider' transends it.

Same thing how I feel about 'Empire Strikes Back' and how it's not just a sci-fi film; but a highly regarded film.

I'd agree with that yeah. Raiders was a one time thing. No way you could top that anyway. That's why Lucas actually understands, unlike Spielberg, that each film should be its own entity. Spielberg loves Raiders too much and that got in the way of LC.

I was talking about A New Hope. Even so, ESB suffers from the same basic first problem that ANH does. Luke and Leia are in it. No I'll rephrase that. Luke and Leia are a**holes. The only heroes I remotely like in ANH are Han and Chewie, and I sort of like Obi Wan, but only because he's played by Alec Guinness. I also like Vader and since every other Empire character is basic story fodder in ANH my list ends there. Luke would be tolerable if he was-

A. Competent as a Jedi
B. Not preachy
C. Not an uptight a**hole with a rod up his bum
D. Actually listened to Yoda in ESB instead of b****ing about every thing

Let's take a good tally of what happens when Luke disregards Yoda's advice.

A. He consistently sucks in his training because of his impatience.
B. He faces Vader alone, loses his hand, and gets his rear handed to him.

Then once Yoda is gone and he goes right into the lion's lair, let's see- the Emperor hands his rear to him. The only reason Luke even gets the upper hand on Vader is because Vader and the Emperor goaded him into losing it because of Leia. So IMO, Luke is the Chosen One out of destiny, but definitely not out of skill. I'll give Luke props there, because the whole point was not to fight Vader, and I will admit in RotJ I can give Luke credit for having learned something. I still enjoy the movies, but come on, Luke is just consistently bi***y and incompetent. Replace Luke with a less uptight b**** and have that character learn the same lessons and I'll enjoy that character. I'm all for a flawed character, but not an AWFUL one. And don't even get me started on Leia's odiousness. I positively adore Han though. Overall the best characters in the series are Han, Chewie, Yoda, Lando, Vader, and the Emperor. Points go to Jabba and his ilk, and I'll throw in Grievous just because he was so good in Clone Wars.

Honestly, I wish Han would just bend Luke and Leia over his knee and give them both a good solid spanking. But boy, I must say. You sure seem in a hurry to prove how smart you are by debating me on ESB. You don't have to though because I both think you're smart and I like ESB. That's mostly because Luke is barely in it compared to ANH or RotJ, and when he is he's in some of the best scenes in the entire saga. Then again, Will annoyed me consistently in the Pirates films for similar reasons that Luke annoyed me. Maybe that sort of character is just not for me.
