Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

That would of been pretty interesting to see Matt. The young pirate probably is the best way to go, it would change the dynamic of having a hero, anti hero and villain to anti-hero, anti-hero, villain. it would make it nice and fresh.

Isn't there a thread for this already?

If they're gonna use a straight man character, it has to be right. It could easily be shoehorned in or come off as a Will knockoff.

Personally, I liked the Davy Jones angle, but I hope it was used for one film only.

So is it official now theres going to be a 4th? I thought it was on the fence since that guy from Disney was let go. And is "On Stranger Tides" the title or is it a working title or what?

Far as i know its the Official title, it was listed as that on IMDB. slated for 2011 realese :)

I always thought I had a cool idea for Pirates 2. Instead of going into the Davy Jones angle, make Bootstrap Bill the villain. After spending years trapped at the bottom of the sea due to the curse, he finally managed to break free after the chains rusted. His years of imprisonment and solitude led to insanity. Having been twisted due to the insanity he has grown to hate all pirates and blame Jack for his plight. To get revenge he became a pirate hunter under the employ of the Spanish Crown. When it became known that he was the supposedly unkillable captain (due to the curse) he quickly advanced in the Spanish Armada to the rank of Admiral. Using the dominant and feared Spanish Armada to hunt down the Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow, Jack turns to the one bit of leverage he has for "help." Bill's son Willaim. That of course would draw Will and Elizabeth back into Jack's twisted games of manipulation and deceit to save his own neck from Will's deranged but powerful father. I feel that would've made a much stronger, more personal, and stand alone tale which would've worked far better.

As for the straight man character in On Stranger Tides, I definitely don't want a Will Turner knock off. Maybe a young pirate on Jack or Barbossa's crew who gets drawn into their adventure due to some past connection to Blackbeard or the fountain?
That would have been cool.

It's probably over 400 pages by now, so best to just let it go.

I could do without a fourth. Should they take steps to make it so that the films take place in some fantastic world that is strongly similar to our own ala Steve King's Mid-World since they had the flat world thing in POTC 3? That's something I would've tried establishing in the first movie.

I dont think it was a flat world. it was just that part being the entrance to the locker.

The first two were great, but I'm findint it difficult to get excited for this.

Any young guy will be basically considered the new Will but a different personality shoudl help it alot though.

haha thanks man, Cant remember where i robbed it from. somone on here may of made it. rules though :D

I dont even know what yours is, scary though lol

I really hope they will go with the Fountain of youth angle. I think that would be a nice natural progession in story from the third one as jack was getting obsessed with living forever.

Whoever they cast as the straight man, he should have a complete personality change to Will. Hell, I don't mind Jack and Barbossa as the two leads. If they go back to the first movie's roots where Jack was in his own way, could act serious and be apart of the plot instead of providing just slapstick humor, I'll be fine. It's not crucial to have another straight man.

James Woods?

Nope, I already get him confused with Geoffrey Rush.

And replacing Depp as Jack is ridiculous. That's HIS character. Any other actor playing it will look like an imitation.

I usually love the Memo to the Execs, Phil's Bond article made me cry a little bit, it was that good. This one made me cry in a different way. I disagree with his assertion that it should just be Jack and Barbossa vs another pirate. A pirate villain is all fine and good but you need a straight man. I love both Jack and Barbossa but I cannot relate to either of them. If I can't relate to a character, I have no investment in the film. Plus James Mardsen as Jack Sparrow? Anyone but Depp as Jack Sparrow? A twenty year leap? I dunno...although I will say this...James Woods as the villain is inspired

Penelope Cruz will be playing Blackbeard's daughter.

We’ve already told you about Penelope Cruz joining the cast of the fourth installment of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ entitled ‘On Stranger Tides,’ but up until now we didn’t know what exactly she’ll be doing there.

In a recent interview with MTV at the Las Vegas’ ShoWest Festival, executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that she plays “the daughter of Blackbeard, the daughter of the bad guy.” Then he continued, "She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she's so feisty, there will be a little romance between Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays."

Ian McShane (‘Kings,’ voice of Captain Hook in ‘Shrek the 3rd’ )is set to play Penelope’s father, and as Bruckheimer puts it, he’ll be “the nastiest pirate ever.” Filming will start in June

even though I commend them for not having bloom and knightly back I still could give a flying crap about this movie, the second and third sucked so bad it just drove me away from the series altogether.

I agree with you that James Woods as a villian would be cool but the fact that you have no investment in a film because you can't relate to a character must mean you don't like a **** ton of films I take it.

This film is a chance to redeem the series. If it's not bloated like the second and third film that will definitely be a step in the right direction.
