Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

And the whole, needless Pirate Army theme through the whole 3rd movie for them to sit around and do nothing moment.

The 1st movie is the most authentic, but to me the other 2 are more entertaining. it's a 3 way tie tho.

I know not everybody liked 2&3, but which villain did you prefer? Davey Jones or Barbossa?

Barbossa seems more out for himself than a villain in the sequels. Davy Jones was a great villain but his story was anti climatic as he got buried by all the subplots.

He was the highlight of the second film.

"Cruel blooded!"

"Life is cruel. Why should the afterlife be any different!"

Barbossa was a better villain if we just compare COTBP to DMC (though Bill Nigh rocked as Davy Jones and it is ILM's best non-Avatar work of the decade).

However, if we factor in how they turned Barbossa into a big softie with a goofy personality in AWE, then Davy JOnes wins. He got buried in the convoluted plot of AWE, but at least he remained a menacing villain and didn't turn into Jack Sparrow's squabbling sidekick, as it was in the third movie. Sad, but true.

"Hector!, long time"

"Yes Jack, remember, the island, you killed me"

"........I didnt do that"

okay thats not exactly how it goes but :hehe::hehe:

One of my favorite moments in all the trilogy is after the battle in AWE when everyone thinks they are doomed and Jack orders everyone to stand their ground and he just has this look on his face then the dutchman comes rising straight out of the water and Hans Zimmer's epic score kicks in and then jack says full canvas! That moment makes that movie for me. My inner child lit up from the sheer awesomeness of it.

Really? I thought it was Jack's little bit with Barbossa in front of the Kraken in AWE:

"World's still the same. There's just... less in it."

Johnny played that moment perfectly, and I hope to see more of that side of Jack in OST.

I really liked that serious moment between Barbossa and Jack after they find the beached kraken.

"There's no guarantee in coming back, but passing on, that's dead certain."

That whole scene is my favorite in the entire trilogy (see my above post). You really get the impression that both Jack and Barbossa have at least some respect for each other.

i still laugh my ass off when Jack is surrounded by other Jack's and the one 'davy jones' version bends over and stands up and says "nobody move, I dropped my brain".

:hehe:

i wouldn't really call Barbosa a villain, especially in 2 and 3. he was more of an anti-hero and just a rival to Jack

and Davey Jones was just a tortured individual. he was just doing his after life job in taking souls

the real villain would have to be Cutler Becket, the leader of Trade fleet. he wanted control of all the seas, wanted Jack dead, went after Davey Jones heart, and executed Elizabeth's father

He wasn't doing his job right tho. hence the curse. the 1 will didn't get, remember?

That is another one of my favorite scenes. The problem with AWE is it's got some really good scenes, but as a whole the movie isn't that good. The sum is not equal to the parts. This is due to them not having a complete script, and rushing the film. Hopefully, they won't repeat this problem with the 5 and 6 and do those films as seperate productions and seperate stories. If they even make those films.

On the Davy Jones vs. Barbossa discussion, I'd like to throw in my two cents and say that not only do I consider Davy Jones a better more-evil villain, but he is also one of my favorite villains of all time. There is so much that is unique about the character and I love it every time he's on screen. Barbossa is great too, but like an earlier poster said, he's become less of a villain now and more of a rival, with a bit of goofiness to his character. Still, you can't beat some of Barbossa's lines-

"What is it now? We two immortals locked in an epic battle until judgment day and trumpets sound, hmm?"

"You're on the wrong side of the map, mate. Here there be monsters. Ha ha ha ha ha!"

My favorite part of the maelstrom scene in AWE was Barbossa performing the wedding ceremony in the middle of the battle. That was great.

"ahh love a dreadful bond" that was my faorite quote and scence from the 3rd movie and he just stabbed him

Personally, I love all of them.

Agreed! :D

Thats definitely one of my favorite moments, it just seemed right Barbossa being the one to do it. :p

and the music for that part "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time!" is 100% awesome there :awesome:.

Or the Calypso subplot that came out of nowhere and amounted to a special effect

Terrible, terrible, terrible movie.

The entire Calypso bit had me scratching my head. First Tia Dalma was their ally, helping them to get Jack back and whatnot, then she out of the blue becomes a very grumpy ***** before they "unbound" her. Twas ******ed

The whole scene was just awkward.

It's because AWE felt like it was scrapped together with no rational thought behind it. I think they just started filming with no script and just made crap up. All the subplots that were left unresolved in DMC were trashed, and AWE started new plots that made little to no sense and poorly developed them. It is a terrible movie.

It's a shame, because the Davy Jones/Calypso angle could have been very interesting if handled properly.

Jones cuts out his heart over her, spends countless years in bitter resentment, and then forgives her in the span of two minutes .

This is the problem with excess. You try to put so much **** into the movie that the important scenes, the scenes that should have the most time to develop and should ultimately have the most impact, are reduced to mere fleeting moments.

Norrington's death, in particular, was handled so carelessly that it was practically an afterthought.
