I really liked Kirkman's Bruce Banner in MTU. He was just as much of a hero as any of the others going up against Titannus. I'd like to see a return to that in the Hulk books at some point. It's getting to be nearly impossible for a return to that to be plausible without a major retcon, though.

The Hulk swam in space so really that is a pointless argument. Yes it has a validity in the real world but not much in the comic book world.

For a Hulk return? They'll probably say during the induced coma of Bruce Banner, more of his other Hulk personalities teamed together, locked up WWH, and just reverted to Savage or some dumb thing, and then Bruce will feel better about it, and be more hero or something.

I'm enjoying the stories and where they've taken the Hulk, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that it's getting increasingle more difficult for Marvel to be able to return to the 90's "Hulk as a Hero" aspect of the character.

Yeah. We'd need Professor to come back randomly (as in just coming back, but staying as Professor) for years in the MU to basically gain any credibility as being a hero. Probably on the Avengers or the Fantastic Four or something prominent.

FF, huh? That might work. If Banner started hanging out in the Baxter Building, working with Reed to make sure the Hulk stays under control, I could see him suiting up and Hulking out with the Merged Hulk persona and helping the FF on adventures.

Oh, who am I kidding? Bruce hates Reed.

He'd most likely be Initiative black op's bait or something. But I could see Banner (if he didn't, you know, probably want to Hulk out all over Reed, though, he'd also wanna Hulk out over Sue. ) at the Baxter, just doing science stuff, trying harder than ever to put the Hulk in check. Even though everybody has pretty much abandoned that quest for the better part of a lifetime now.

Not to mention that Banner is with the Hulk, for the first time in a long time.

Yeah, he seemed to enjoy taking the backseat on this one.

Maybe now that he's back on Earth, and the Hulk filled with rage, when (not if) he gets free, he might try to renew his old efforts. I'd like to see a more proactive, heroic Banner.

Could be. I'd at least like to see a mildly intelligent Hulk. The Savage Hulk has worn a bit thin for me.

I'd settle for average, just below average smart Hulk that isn't super quick to anger, if I couldn't get Professor back.

WWH Hulk had about average intelligence. He was just really, really angry and terse.

That Hulk wasn't bad. But I mean a Hulk that Banner can deal with, rather than it just being all about the Hulk and his revenge. I guess that Hulk would be okay. It would definitely give Banner a reason to get his ass in gear about finding a control.
