Iron Man 3 "Please Don't Turn Down my Music": The Iron Man 3 Composer Thread

I don't think I've ever heard any of his music. Not sure what kind of choice this is.

Try Annapolis, John Rambo, Expendables 1, 2 and Bug. He sure loves his electric guitars.

For Rambo, it was great that he incorporated the main theme from the original movies, I love it when new composers to franchises do that as it gets the excitement going early.

Tyler didn't just do that for Rambo. He also incorporated the late Shirley Walker's theme in the last two Final Destination films... in the fourth one, he had also rearranged it into a fun electric guitar solo.

He does the score for Hawaii Five-0. I'm cool with this.

When first hearing Brian Tyler's choice as composer for this film, I wasn't really sure what to think.

But, after contemplating on the decision and listening to some of his past work, I think he's a more-than-suitable choice to compose the score for this film.

He can do bombastic and action-oriented music (perfect for battles and heroic rescues):

He can do serious and methodical (good for when Tony is perfecting his armor and tech or doing research):

And he can do just plain awesome and cool (perfect for scenes where Tony is just being Tony):

As much as I liked the scores for the previous two films, I always thought there wasn't much of a balance. Iron Man was a little bit heavy on the guitar side (great, but a little variety would have been nice), whereas Iron Man 2 was a little more on the orchestral side (great score, but none of the music really screamed "Iron Man" to me).

Brian Tyler, to me, is the best of both worlds. He has Ramin Djawadi's rock sensibilities and John Debney's dramatic orchestral sensibilities, and knows very well how to musically balance and coordinate the two. He's the perfect combo.

I'm really looking forward to see what Mr. Tyler brings to the table!

EDIT: Found another piece done by him.

He re-used the old theme from the original H5-O series... so he's fine with referencing other themes if the director or studio wants it.

that bit from battle LA that was posted earlier...was awesome. Give us THAT.

Yeah, I really liked his score for Battle: Los Angeles. Not a great movie, but the music was good.

Not sure how many Trek fans there are here, but here's an example of some of his earlier work, from the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Regeneration." The later Trek series were kind of notorious for their 'sonic wallpaper' approach to music, but "Regeneration" is one of the few eps that's been singled out for its more dynamic score.

Generally I like Brian Tyler's work though he can be hit and miss sometimes. I enjoy the work he did on Transformers: Prime and Bubba Ho-Tep.

It's just a shame Iron Man hasn't had a theme that stuck. I enjoyed both themes written by Djawadi & Debney, and wish the franchise had a musical cohesiveness.

Djawadi's score is one of my favourite superhero scores, I was disappointed that he didn't do the scores for either IM2 or IM3.

But, if that recent teaser music (superbowl) is a sample of the score, I think I'm going to enjoy this one.

At first I was extremely disappointed to hear he didn't come back for IM2, but I warmed up to Debney after hearing samples and the final product. I hope the same goes for Brian Tyler. Also, I agree, I enjoy Ramin's score immensely!

Just saw Tron: Legacy for the first time...

My vote goes to Daft Punk.

^^^Maybe IM4 b/c Brian Tyler is currently scoring IM3, which has been confirmed since last October.

Brian Tyler is a really good Composer. I look forward to hear his Score in Iron Man 3.

“When Marvel and Shane Black approached me about scoring ‘Iron Man 3,’ I was thrilled as a long-time fan of the series and super hero films in general. We all wanted this score to have a deeply thematic component with a strong melody. We felt that the story would lend itself best to go classic and use the orchestra as the main voice of the music, with horns and trumpets singing the new Iron Man theme in a strong way. I conducted the London Philharmonic at Abbey Road in order to give the score a sound that felt powerful enough to live up to its name. Shane Black was very supportive and collaborative in his vision for the film and the score, and Kevin Feige was also a kindred spirit in really reaching for something special. Both of them are incredible film score buffs, and we all spoke the same film music language, which made for an awesome experience. In the end we went for a score that echoed the classics of super hero film history with a few surprises like a wild 1960s style main title piece that was an absolute blast to record.”

Spinning Brian Tyler's score for IRON MAN 3 for the first time. It's big. Very, very big.

Mandarin music esp. cool. More emotional than purely villainous. Huge percussive moments that are really quite cool.

Suffice it to say, those things you loved best from the scores of The Dark Knight, The Amazing Spider-Man, and even The Avengers all come together here with Brian Tyler tying it all together with his signature sound. You might say, "Wha?" "Huh?" But you can just stop that now and do some trusting. It's quite a ride...with a final track that you are NOT expecting...but will probably love.

Usually we'd be able to hear snippets from the tracts this close to release.

Omg, sounds promising.

Might possibly be the best MCU score yet.

Sounds promising indeed. Seems like the direction Marvel went with IM3 inspired them to go for a more dramatic/emotional score. Instead of the generic, serviceable, sound design wallpaper music that we hear in most of these type of movies these days. I wasn't too excited about this score b/c the previous two (though were written by two different composers) didn't impress me at all. But after reading that interview I'm very much interested in what Tyler came up with now. Hopefully Tyler delivers.

While there have been snippets of good stuff here and there, I've generally been underwhelmed by the past two Iron Man scores. I like Tyler's work a lot, so I hope it delivers.

Yeah, for as great as Ramin Djawadi has been on stuff like Game of Thrones and Person of Interest, his Iron Man score was generally fairly unmemorable to me.
