Police Academy: The Relaunch?

I have only seen Rain Wilson in couple of things but from what i have seen of him so far his Dwight Schrute character seems to be a familiar character he plays alot in other characters he has been.

I think Tackleberry's brother would be interesting.

But i think Tackleberry's death would be a good way to re-introduce the characters from the old movies.

Can already think of a synopsis already.

Police Academy 8: The Reunion

It is 2010 - it has been 16 years since the last movie. Lassard has retired, the rest of familar cast has moved on to other precints except for tackleberry who still remained at the original academy as an instructor. The academy is facing closure due to budget cuts and a far superior new academy that has opened up across town which is being runned by comendant Harris... The Harris Academy wants to close down the original academy because he only has bitter memories of the place. However on a stake out mission a missunderstanding leads to Tackleberry's death. as a result the original cast members return to the old academy for his funeral, including Tackleberrys family. as all the original members learn of the academys closure they attempt to try and save it by returning to train a new bunch of recruits. which consist of Tackleberry's brother (Rain Wilson) the messy slob like character (Seth Rogen) The guy who gets all the girls (Marlon waynes) the nerdy (Johnny Galecki) the sexy (Anna Faris) and there group leader (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)

As much as I like him, I don't want Seth Rogen in this movie. I have said earlier that if I want someone from the Judd Apatow stock, let it be Martin Starr (from Party Down).

but seth rogen is a perfect for the police academy. If you look back at characters that have appeared in the show, they find unique comical actors. Seth Rogen is unique where as there are alot of comedy actors out there that are just clones of each other.

I hope they bring back the Blue Oyster, I always laughed at those scenes.

I haven't read anything about this film so I don't know if it's quite a redo or another sequel of some sort. Only thing that would make me a bit interested in this is if The Guttenberg comes back as the new drill instructor...if it's not a remake.

yea i really hope it isnt a reboot, the series is more easier to just continue with sequels like the national lampoon series or the american pie movies. At least have the film be about 2-4 originals along with a new cast of crazy misfit cadats.

Old faves return for Police Academy

A couple of weeks ago the trades announced that the long-gestating "Police Academy 8" would instead be retooled as a 'reboot', signaling the possible exclusion of the original cast members (Steve Guttenberg in particular) who hoped to be involved in the belated cop comedy.
Guttenberg can remove the gun from his head - he may be required back for the new "Police Academy" after all.
In an interview with MTV, Producer Paul Maslansky said he hopes to bring back some of the original boys (and girls) in blue to train up the new recruits.
"All I know is that I want to bring back some of the older characters to it, and maybe they'll have principal roles, some of them, and some of them might be just you know [a cameo]."
If I was a betting man I'd say Guttenberg, Michael Winslow (who reprised Jones for the "Police Academy" TV series), G.W Bailey, Bubba Smith and have a shot at those "principal roles" whilst George Gaynes, now 92, would likely make a special but fleeting appearance as fan fave Lassard.
Sad that Tackleberry won't be back (David Graf is no longer with us) but there's a fair chance we will be seeing his offspring in the new film. Those that watched the spin-off TV series will recall a Dean and Dirk Tacklberry at the Academy.
At one stage Guttenberg mentioned Sharon Stone and Kim Cattrall would be likely reprising their roles as Claire Mattson (from "Police Academy IV : Citizens on Patrol") and Karen Thompson ("Police Academy"), respectively, but I'd say that's merely wishful thinking on Mahoney's behalf.
What will be back? The iconic theme and the atmosphere of the 1984 original...
"I want to recreate that atmosphere that the first [movie] had. I'm going to use the theme obviously from Robert Folk, who wrote the music. Believe me, that theme, probably it was as helpful as anything in that first movie to bring it to life," Maslansky explained. "I'm going to do everything in my power to satisfy an audience that I know will be accepting."
As for where the film is at? "We're just in the formative stage", says Maslansky.

Looks like it may not be a full on reboot. Which i am a bit happy if this ends up happening. i rather have originals back and be about a new crew of guys. Hopefully more details come out soon.

That's what I thought. Can't have Harris though without Proctor.

Oh you can. Harris didn't have Proctor around in the first movie, and it's the funniest one of them all. I preferred Harris without Proctor. Proctor was Mauser's lackey originally, then they palmed him off on Harris.

I had forgotten that Proctor wasn't in the first one.

Well the movie needs Mahoney teaching his new recruit how to play pranks on Harris.

Massive thread bump for a reason: We won't have Hightower in the movie if it gets made.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/03/bubba-smith-dies-at-66/

Sorry for the massive thread bump.

Charles Aaron “Bubba” Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1967 NFL draft who later found fame as an actor, has died at the age of 66.

After ending an All-American career at Michigan State in 1966, Smith was taken first in the draft by the Baltimore Colts. He played on Baltimore’s defensive line for five years, then was traded to the Oakland Raiders, where he played in 1973 and 1974, and finished his career with the Houston Oilers in 1975 and 1976.

The 6-foot-7, 265-pound Smith was one of the biggest players of his era. He won a ring at Super Bowl V and went to two Pro Bowls.

After retiring, Smith became an actor. He was best known for playing Moses Hightower in the first six Police Academy movies.

No cause of death has been determined, but officials said they believe Smith died of natural causes.

At this point the movie should not get made. No Tackleberry & now no Hightower ? Hell no

Sad news. I haven't thought about these films in quite some time but one of them was on earlier and I caught the tale end of it.

Sad to hear Bubba Smith passed.

The first two PA's were absolutely hilarious. I can't watch any of the other versions after #2...

well if the film does ever get off the ground, they would likely say hightower and the other guy who died probably in film verse died in duty, and could easily be launching point in having there children come on board and all that. But it is always sad to hear when a beloved character actor has passed away.

The other guy was Tackleberry. They have to re-write the script now that Hightower is no longer.

I don't think this film gets off the ground at all. Hightower and Tackleberry were major characters in the movie. It'll be hard to duplicate.

ya would be hard to replace but if the plot of the film was to have most originals back with a new batch of recuits and some offspring of others we may not see its a easy place to put kids of the actors who have passed on. Also i was just reading an article the other day before i saw the death news of bubba that a script was ready to go an filming would likely be ready to fall. But i dont know the validity of that site. So who very well knows.

Holy thread bump Batman!

BREAKING: New Line Cinema has set Scott Zabielski to direct Police Academy, its remake of the long-running film series that started at Warner Bros in 1984 and spanned seven films. They were considered lowbrow, but how many Warner Bros series has spanned that many movies, other than Harry Potter? Zabielski is making his feature directing debut after directing several seasons of episodes of the hit Comedy Central show Tosh.O. While Zabielski is new to features, he’s quite familiar with the concept of police academy: He went through the academy and is a reserve police officer in West Hollywood. He’s repped by Underground and UTA.

I was always surprised by how unfunny the movies were, considering the material. The first one was more or less passable. Forgettable, and non-offensive for the most part. The sequels were terrible. Though everyone agrees the character doing the sound effects was fun.

Ok back now to remake talk which will it be remake, sequel, sorta reboot but have a few guys from original return.

Blue Oyster FTW. I have that song as one of my ringtones lol.
