BSG which while good is vastly overrated. People heralded it as the best thing since slice bread and the fact is there are far better scifi shows out there than it. Sure, it's one of the best, but it's very very vastly overrated.

I sincerely hope you're not talking about the one in your avvy.

Though not exactly popular, I would say Dollhouse. I love all of Joss Whedon's shows, but Dollhouse just really didn't interest me in the least.

Also, I just finished the original series of Battlestar Galactica, and was ready to set my weekend with starting the new series. I get home from work, pop the disc in, sit down with a bag of Doritos all ready........and the Netflix disc is cracked. Weekend ruined.

Lost. I just know I don't have the patience for such a show, waiting week to week, year to year for answers...but I also know its probably something I would enjoy so I am going to wait til the series is complete, buy the DVDs and go from there.
I envy you. Watching the show entirely on dvd is absolutely the way to go.

Anyway, I'm going to say BSG too. I've watched the mini-series and first season, and was greatly disappointed. Baltar is the only character worth a damn. And the constant use of "frak" is one of the stupidest things ever and I pretty much roll my eyes every time it's spoken.

It is indeed been consistently better than anything BSG has done. And far more ORIGINAL. It was not the MAIN one I was referring too, however, but it has far more original bones in it's body than BSG.

BSG is your standard humans in a bleak situation against a greater foe situation. The twist is pretty much your typical traitors in the midst style that has come before it. It's just helped into something more than mediocrity by the stellar cast of the show. Had BSG got a different cast, the show would have been lame, dull, and completely unoriginal. The cast saves/saved that show from mediocrity.

Hmm.... I think not.

Though I agree, the cast of BSG is fantastic!

Maybe you should've stuck it out a little longer. Inititally I gave up on it about 4 episodes in but got reinterested at "litmus". The one where Chief and the deck crew are investigated for letting a cylon blow up an hatch. By the time we get to the season 1 finale, I was hooked. Yeah, should've stuck it out as season 2 is easilty the best of the bunch overall.

For me, there are several shows that apply to this thread:

All the Law and Orders and CSI's-I don't like shows that aren't serialized like at all and these are the two biggest offenders. Plus they are all the same and seem to depend on their "special guest stars" instead of writing. That and there's too damn many of them.

Friends-fairly unfunny, horrible theme song and unrealistically undiverse for a show in a big city(that's why Seinfeld will ALWAYS be more realistic), I never got what people got from Friends.

Stargate- fake star trek with recycled old trek plots and crappy fx and acting.

That 70's show-I dislike about half the cast and I never felt the jokes were funny.

Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy-Both were shows that I watched for the first 8 or 9 episodes but quickly grew bored as they proved to be nothing more than soaps with bigger budgets.

2.5 men- the most overated sitcom perhaps of all time. Not funny and features Charlie Sheen cashing a check.

Boston Legal-It has some great acting at times but the constant "funny soul music moments" and goofiness of it coupled with the revolving door of supporting cast make it not worth watching.

Supernatural-I watched the pilot episode and that was enough for me. Boring and crappy acting from Ackles. Now admittedly, this was years ago and I hear that since then it's turned into some kind of must watch nerd show so i'm willing to possibly give it another chance but from what i remember of the pilot, it sucked.

Carnivale-boring and too complicated.

Dark Angel-boring and not complicated enough.

Seinfeld - I just can't like a show where I absolutely hate all of the characters.
Everybody Loves Raymond - Yes, it is better than most sitcoms, but thats really not saying much.
Friends - Completely mystified as to why this was so popular.

O_O

How dare you make such a mockery of the great Catherine Tate, DarthKush.

I'll admit the facial expression isn't exactly the best to capture her in though. :p

It's true that Doctor Who is really original, and sure, I like it. But all in all, it's a kids' show, and I like shows that make me think. And as for what you said about the BSG cast, I actually think the same about Doctor Who. I love David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, and Catherine Tate, but without them I don't think the show would be able to carry itself.

But ya know, diff'rent strokes and all that jazz. My best friend hates BSG and loves Doctor Who and I love BSG and don't like Doctor Who as much (with the exception of the Donna episodes; I hate Martha and Rose), but we found common ground in Firefly. :woot:

- Many HBO/Showtime ones because I've had those on and off.
- Supernatural
- Desperate Housewives
- Grey's Anatomy
- Alias
- BSG
- Veronica Mars
- Dr. Who
- House after the first season or two
- Buffy/Angel
- Dark Angel
- ER after the dude from RotN left
- Earl after season two

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I watch no reality tv (except some finales) that I can think of. The last time I watched The Real World was when it was a true story.[/Country Twang]

A kids show with kissing, very subtle hints at sex, and most jokes that would fly over children's heads? Doctor Who of olden days was more of a kids show. New Doctor Who from Eccelston on, less of a kids show...more of an everybody common ground show.

That's why the spin-offs are different markets.

Torchwood is for the adult who needs sex around every corner.

And Sarah Jane Adventures is pure schmucky childrens fun.

The only thing I got from it was that the room was always cold when the blonde girl walked in the room.

Well, I'm not talking about sex and cussing the like as much as the political, mature aspect of it. Doctor Who has some political undertones, sure, but I prefer BSG because it's just as much a show about war as it is a sci-fi show, which some people might not be into but I love it. Doctor Who is more fun and entertainment.

That's one reason I'm kinda not as into Battlestar as I could be as they make Adama and his military seem like the be all end all of importance to the survival of the human race...like President Roslin just doesn't matter at all, when she's usual right and they are wrong as all hell....but you know I haven't even finished the series, so my opinion might change, I very much doubt it though.

Star Trek. All versions and incarnations. Never saw the appeal.
