Iron Man 2 Possible ARG/Viral Campaign

It has nothing to do with us being dumb. They spoon fed us words in the easiest code to crack in history, and then didnt give us the last part of the website. That isnt clever or intriguing. Its just lazy.

This is why I love SHH! The admins do such amazing, badass things.

Well then :applaud:bow::bow::applaud

What did the site look it before the hour countdown started?

Just had a form where I put in my name. I thought it would be a collective thing where more and more people had to sign up to launch the trailer, but to my surprise the countdown started as soon as i pushed submit.

So, superhero hype was involved in the viral campaign, and the administrator of the sites forum figured it out.

Lame.

Sooooo You are Mirko P.

Long story short: The viral campaign bombed. No one sat at their computer for hours typing in random urls until they found it...so one of the websites involved in the viral was told to go ahead and solve it and tell their readers...

Such an awesome viral campaign guys. The trailer looks awesome...but get it together.

Sigh... They still have 5 months... maybe they'll get something going and do something like the TDK did and give away tickets...

Maybe they will.

The thing is, I feel for them. There must always be a huge desire to run a viral, but iron man just doesnt lend itself to one. Batman is a detective, so it works out...horror movies that promote to internet dorks work by convincing people that it's real. Iron Man isn't mysterious or anything...it's just a great action/sci fi character. His rogues gallery isnt well known enough to base something around either.

Sooo... Come on... This gives us more... I think there is more...

Heh, usually a viral is solved by one person after many, many people see the clue. But yeah, it's usually a random player, not one of the messengers. :oldrazz:

And actually, some of the clues in TDK were solved by blind dumb luck as well (and one time we plain up cheated :funny: ), although we always had the information needed to solve it properly.

I've read a blog post that theorized that 42Entertainment, who was behind the TDK ARG, is behind this. They're not. They have a strict policy of not interacting with the players at all during a game. It's supposed to be an "alternate reality," not "here's some clues, have at it." Instead of recruiting websites to relay the jpegs, they would have put up the articles (with highlighting) up on a billboard or pasted around major cities. Not this.

Maybe they will.

TDK had the luxury of having the Joker, who can work underground to recruit minions, and it worked beautifully into the movie's storyline itself. I think that's the common thread among all ARGs - you need some kind of subversive, curious aspect of it that compels players to find out what's going on.

They've also simply made additional storylines for movies that don't have that subversive aspect. Star Trek's ARG involved characters not in the movie itself, Vulcans who got lost time traveling and ended up on Earth, and players tried to help them escape the Romulans and relay their message. They also went with extra characters in the A.I ARG, and that was one of the earliest pioneers of the medium.

Just because there's nothing in the movie's storyline to investigate, doesn't mean you can't have a good ARG.

The Cloverfield monster was actually a P.I. :whatever:

Hey, good find! Although the viral for all we know is "dead".
