Who or what do you feel should have had more attention from the "Academy", especially from genre films as opposed to oscar bait films

Brad Pitt - Snatch (Best supporting)

Hugh Jackman - The Fountain, The Prestige

Alfred Molina - Spider-man 2 (Best supporting)

Christian Bale - Rescue Dawn

Hugo Weaving - V for Vendetta

Jackie Earle Haley - Watchmen (Best supporting)

Sharlto Copley - District 9

what are your opinions

Entertaining movies 90% of the time.

Transformers and Pirates of the Carribean loosing to Golden Compass for Best Visual Effects will always stay in my mind....

can we post movies that should of been nominated? if so I say the dark knight, its was more then just a "superhero" movie, it was one of the most finely brilliantly crime satires of the modern day and it just happened to have batman and a clown running around.

but for snubs I say shakespeare in love over saving private ryan. how did that happen?

Actors that never got theyre ''Must Have'' nominations:

Ted Levine - Silence of the Lambs (Supporting Actor)
Freddie Highmore - Finding Neverland (Supporting Actor)
Christian Bale - The Machinist (Leading Actor)

Movies

The Dark knight - Best Picture, Writing, Directing
The Prestige - At least Writing
A.I - Best Picture , Directing

If i think of more, i will post...

Ditto. Also, Catch Me If You Can was totally snubbed. It's a classic, and Leo and Hanks were both brilliant in it.

yep, all kinds off snubs, obviously there are a plethora of them.

i second Ted Levine for SOTL.

I got another one, David Koechner for Thank You For Smoking (Best Supporting)

for some reason movies that are thinkers or have major twist always get snubbed, I guess they cant take it or something.

I think bale should have gotten something, i mean jesus how much weight did he loose? Thats dedication.

Saving Private Ryan - win for Best Picture
Sam Rockwell - nomination for Best Actor (Moon)
Moon - nomination for Best Picture

Yeah Christian Bale for The machinist

The Dark Knight for Picture, director, and adapted screenplay

Also like someone said, Golden Compass winning best FX was a disgrace.

I still think King Kong is 2005's best movie.

Children of Men, The Prestige, Pan's Labyrinth and United 93 were all 80 times better than Babel.

Tom Cruise not winning for Jerry Maguire.

how could i forget Sam Rockwell for Moon, wow 2009 had some great performances

Al Pacino not winning for either The Godfather for The Godfather Part II

Jaws - no nominations for Supporting Actor (Robert Shaw) and Adapted Screenplay

Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas...just wrong

I really wonder why Ted Levine wasn't nominated for an oscar in Silence of the lambs. Maybe the role was too risky for the academy at the time? He deserved at least a nomination.

Another villain who did not get even a nomination was Anthony Perkins as Norman bates in Psycho, can you believe it? Not even a nomination. Again, I think its because the role was too risky

Speaking of...Alfred Hitchcock never won an academy award and Stanley Kubrick wasn't even nominated for one.

Its 'Best Actor', not 'most weight loss'.

Well where do we start? The Dark Knight, Wall-E, In Bruges, & The Wrestler wasnt nominated for Picture and Director in 2008.

Uh...wtf?

Kubrick was nominated for 13 Oscars and he even won one -- Visual Effects for 2001.

In Bruges not getting best original screenplay. A unique gem that film/screenplay is. Effortless blending of comedy and humour, excellent characters.

Deakins not winning cinematography for No Country or Jesse James.
