POTC = The new SW?

the only REAL similarity between X-Men and the OT is that the third movie in both was a lot weaker than the previous two. :o
Yeah, But ROTJ was way better than X3, and ROTS is the best of the prequels, and much better than ROTJ, at least to me. maybe not to everyone else.

hence why I just said it was inferior to the ones that came before it. had I just said they sucked, I'd be putting ROTJ on the level of X3, and not even Ewoks come close to the level of crappyness of X3.

ROTS did absolutely nothing for me. it was an even bigger disappointment than TPM.

Definitely on a character to character and story elements basis but whether it will have the lasting impact of Star Wars i don't know

 I'm just disagreeing with you, why are you getting so annoyed?

Lord of the Rings is the new Star Wars. POTC is the new Indiana Jones.

As far as POTC to Star Wars, its close but no cigar. There's no questioning it's going to be a great trilogy, but I don't see it having any huge lasting impact like Star Wars.

PotC has no way near the quality or quantity or focus on action that Indy films have.

Kevin, I've always been meaning to ask you. Who is the guy in your avatar? I remember Sho Kosugi having a similar mask in the movie Pray for Death but I know that's not him in your AV.

It's a movie called Casshern, the character is Casshern played by Yusuke Iseya, and the avatar is by Nathan.

You know, I've had atleast four people ask me what my avatar is, even though is says in my signature, lol.

LOL...the avatar just takes all the attention away from your signature. I just never even thought to look there.

Top 10 movie franchises most like Star Wars(In order of Star Wars-yness):

1. POTC
2. LOTR
3. X-Men
4. Indiana Jones
5. Star Wars(OT)
6. Alien
7. Terminator
8. The Matrix
9. James Bond
10. Star Wars(PT)

This makes absolutely no sense, how is Star Wars number 5 on a list of movie series most like Star Wars?!?!?!

As for POTC being like Star Wars, I don't see it, granted I haven't seen the sequel yet, but at no time while watching POTC did I think, "Hey this seems a lot like Star Wars".

ROTS is a giant piece of s#!t in my mind. The movie is pure crap from beginning to end. Better than ROTJ?!?! Please, ok, the ewoks weren't the greatest characters but the story was miles beyond ROTS. Everyone b!thces about the ewoks, but I never minded them and everything else in that movie was pure gold, plus the movie had that incredible scene of Luke and Vader dueling silhouetted with that great John Williams music in the background, pure awesomeness. Sorry about the Star Wars rant.

Star Wars was a very good series of movies, but it just didn't feel very "Star Wars-y" to me. Not sure why. POTC was much more like Star Wars than Star Wars was.

Reading this makes my head hurt.

It's kind of like how Bill Clinton was more like JFK than JFK was.

Oh, I did.

Will Turner - Luke Skywalker, young man taking first steps on the hero journey, learning about his father and his destiny

Elizabeth - Princess Leia, daughter of authority figure and fesity romantic intrest

Jack Sparrow - Han Solo, rogue with dubious motives who only comes good at the very climax

Good Question, I don't think there are plans to release them all in a box set yet. There is going to be a new Box set of the OT some time in the fall with the original cut. I heard they are going to only be fullscreen (ewww) while France is getting the Widescreen.

I see you and I have the same feelings about movies in full screen. Cringe.

I agree that ROTS is the best of the prequels.
But nothing beats ESB in my book.

I think this is the best comaprison Ive heard. POTC does remind me more of Indiana Jones.

Um.... I think the new Star Wars...is the new Star Wars. I do however notice that POTC is a LOT like SW in someways. I believe it's more of a modern Indiana Jones though.

I'll still take SW over POTC though.

Why? Indiana Jones isn't an ensemble movie. Pirates is the modern star wars.

It's a fun, rollocking adventure with three characters who are obviously similar to the three characters from Star Wars, and the films even follow a similar structure.

Film 1: Boy leaves his menial life to rescue a princess, enlisting the help of a rouge.

Film 2: The characters split up and have seperate adventures,
the rogue 'dies' at the end.

Both those descriptions fit Star Wars and Pirates. We are right. You are wrong. The End.

Star Wars is a classic in cinema history, POTC is a kiddie ride, you must never compare the two.

That's like comparing the acting chops of Robert DeNiro to Pauly Shore.

I don´t see any similarities between Pirates 2 and Star Wars, even Pirates 1 and SW, the only recent movie that I saw, similar to Star Wars is Fantastic Four.

You know, Susan and Johnny Storm are brothers, Luke and Leia are brothers, Reed Richards and his best Friend Thing, are space pilots, same goes to Han solo and his best friend Chewbacca, The Thing and Chewbacca are monsters, and the main villians; Doctor Doom and Darth Vader are persons with armors, with a similar scar in their face ( I think they are brothers ), and these two men have a great desire to rule all universe.

There are more similarities between Fantastic Four with Star Wars, in comparison with Pirates of The Caribbean with Star Wars.

May the Fantastic, be with you. Always.:up::ff::thing:
Actually I agree...not in the movies but in the comics...Dr.Doom is a lot like Darth Vader imo

I thought POTC2 was mediocre
Youre being too generous

I don't see what's so kiddie about the POTC films...the movies have kind of a dark tone for a fantasy adventure.

that's so stupid it's sig worthy!

congrats!

While obviously the comparisons between Pirates and Star Wars are valid, I still identify it more with Indiana Jones. It's a fun adventure movie that's first objective is to entertain, and it succeeds. I think that Lord of the Rings was closer to the niche that Star Wars filled back in the day. Obviously SW is Star Wars, but that's a little different since it was a classic movie franchise returning for seconds, while LOTR and Pirates were something that movie-goers had yet to be introduced to (Unless you count Ralph Bakshi's awful animated attempt at LOTR way back when).

So if Pirates is Indiana Jones, and LOTR is Star Wars... Would that make Spider-Man Back to the Future?
