From IGN @ SDCC 10: Rodriguez Confirms Predators 2
Scott Collura said:
"[The studio] said, 'Let's do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have?'" says the filmmaker. "Because it was like, let's test out the market with this one. They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn't want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there."

Rodriguez says he has "an idea" of what he will do with the sequel. The next step, he says, is probably to have other writers come in and pitch different versions of his basic premise, along with new concepts. And then, as with the first Predators, he'll pick the best one. As for whether or not he would direct the sequel…

I just watched Predators, and I'm all for a sequel...BUT...I find it hard to believe that the Predators would only use humans in their training.

So...a sequel full of the most bizarre and ultra violent alien races ever conjured up would be pretty rad.

Heretic, there was that one alien that was chasing Topher that we thought was a Predator at first. I don't think they just train on humans but the movie of course had to focus on us.

Wouldn't this technically be "Predator 4?"

Yeah, but one extra random alien isn't enough for a sequel...you have established a couple of humans that are ready to be in the sequel...so...I wnat lots of extra crazy looking aliens. 10 different types of aliens battling it out sounds much more fun than 2 hours of humans talking about an alien hunting them (though I did like Predators).

Well there was a bunch of crates falling at the end of Predator plus you have the Aliens. Not a hugh fan of the Aliens or the AVP mvoies for that matter but as long as they're canon the Aliens where hunted.

Harry Knowles said this in his review.

Had they gotten off planet, wound up in some kind of battle that got them stuck on the PREDATOR home world and we begin the PLANET HULK / GLADIATOR plotline that this was all headed towards.

He is friends with Rodriguez so I imagine he has an idea where things would go.

Im interested...but leave the 'Aliens' out of it, certainly up for other species....maybe we see the Predator homeworld next time around

Wait, are they inferring on a gladiator type thing for the sequel? Because that could be cool if done right. In a way I kind of want to see what happens with Royce and Isabelle. Them encountering other survivors.

The next movie should be called Predator 3! There was Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3, so why not follow the same naming convention? :hehe:

We need to see something new for the next movie too. Preds in a historical period, some other type of geographic location, or even on another planet hunting a completely different species that we haven't seen yet.

I still can't believe we got two AvP movies without either of them set in space and with space Marines like the two PC games did. What an epic fail. How hard can it be to put an AvP movie in space with trained soldiers and make it a horror/sci-fi/action combo? If nothing else maybe the next Pred movie should be that - LV1201 with Marines and Preds, just without the Aliens? Throw in the scientists and corporate bad guys and you have a movie!

Considering that Alien 3 was so bad that it was a base breaker, I don't think that they should be following in its footsteps with the Predator franchise. It's so bad that the only way Fox and Ridley Scott feel that the franchise can be saved is by doing a prequel, since all the events after Aliens have pretty much been disowned by the fandom and there's nothing for a new sequel to build on other than the base mythology. What would be next, calling the fifth Predator film "Predator Resurrection?"

I say don't officially call it Predator 4 or Predator 3. That way if people want to ignore Predator 2 from continuity they can, but at the same time it does not deny it from continuity. Calling it Predator 3 would definitely be the most confusing option, though.

predators didn't up the ante to predator like aliens up the ante to alien.

alien - 1
aliens - hundreds

predator - 1
predators - 5 (at most)

like harry knowles said 'predators doesn't deserve the 's'
and I 100% agree. if they want my cash for a sequel then go to predator home world or something, show LOTS of predators, make it war not a pistol fight.

Predators was much better than i expected, quite good in fact, unfortunatelly with things being so quiet i fear the Predator franchise may have been put to rest. AvP also had potencial, as the games show, unfortunatelly the 2 films will make nobody ever want to see an AvP movie again.

Was Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 technically Halloween 10, they wouldnt call it that..

Bye.

That logic doesn't make sense since Predators still acknowledges openingly that Predator 1 happened. It's still a sequel, and a reboot as well. Rob Zombie is a full on reboot that has a different continuity all together.

With Prometheus coming and continuing the Alien franchise i also hoped that by now they had some news, but it seems the last news about another predators movie were released 2 years ago
