My vote goes towards The Mummy. Why? Well, seeing how most of the people who loved the first two were younger when they were released, and now 6 years later, i'm sure they aren't going to enjoy the "kiddie" humor as much as they did. But that's just my thoughts.

Or I could be wrong and Jet Li on the Mummy title could bring in the big bucks, but for now, I'm saying flop.:o

Yes, that's true.

What would you like more? Films about Indy or films about Mutt Williams?

None, but push come to shove, a Mutt Williams film is the the better of the two. If Harrison Ford is not Indiana Jones, then I don't want another Indiana Jones movie.

I'm not sure that the fanbase of the first two (especially the first) were primarily targeted at the kids. I'm sure it was late teens to thirty. I think that The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor won't bomb, but it won't be making The Mummy Returns money. I'm thinking like Live Free or Die Hard's box office performance.

I have a feeling Indy is going to underperform. I don't want it to, but I just have a feeling. It seems that the only people excited for the movie are individuals who hand out on SHH! or AICN. I really don't get a good vibe from the general public.

I still stand by my feeling that The Incredible Hulk will be THE sleeper hit of the summer.

That'd be a shame if Indy underperforms, because the marketing for that movie is insane. I work part-time at a grocery store, and damn, Indy is everywhere; cereal boxes, soda, cookies, etc.

I've seen alot of bad reactions from different audiences when the trailers are shown and Indy usually gets them excited, but that's just what I've seen.

Mutt Williams
and the Superfluous Milking of the Indiana Jones Franchise

SUMMER 2011

What kind of business do you guys think Indy'll pull? Yeah, I know, four posts in a row, whatever...

Hancock won't be a flop. Will Smith himself guarantees $100 million in the box office.

This could go 50/50. The reviews so far have been pretty lackluster and word of mouth could ruin its chances.

You're probably right. It might be a hit at the box office ( i dont know why). But it will suck, just like I,Robot Just like Independence day. Just like I Am Legend. :down :down

IMO
Watchmen
Hancock
The happening
Tropic Thunder
and the cloverfield sequel.

Sex and the City has flop all over it.

I think it all depends on expectations for this, long as the studio isn't expecting much it'll do fine, it has a very specific audience and no crossover appeal. Still don't understand why it's a big screen movie and not just made for HBO, the show was on HBO, so it could get away with whatever it wanted and it's not an action show so it wouldn't need a bigger budget. Just makes no sense to me why this is a summer movie.

sex and the city aint gonna bomb at all... it will be this year's devil wears prada big time

What surprising me is how badly some films are underperforming, Indy, Caspian, Speed Racer, the first two of which have received positive reviews overall and are family friendly yet at haven't been performing up to expectations at all

This even worries me more for the Incredible Hulk if anything... it seems most films will vastly underperform relative to predictions... what could be the reason for this? the relatively **** economy currently? People just not being interested in seeing movies??

Anybody know the budget on the Happening? He usually breaks even at least, he didn't with Lady in the Water, but other than that he always does. I don't see that movie having cost very much. From what we've seen anyways, the special effects look like they were kept to a minimum. If it can get...70 million it will probably at least earn it's budget back.

he may make most of the money back, but he is losing fans with every movie.

Sex and the City doesn't have the wide appeal that Prada has. Anybody can watch and enjoy Prada, but honestly, other than fans of the show, who wants to see the SatC movie?

I'm not surprised at these films underperforming at all. From people I've talked too, a LOT of them don't want to see Indy, or will at least wait to hear if it's good. Harrison Ford is too old, they say. Who wants to see that? (I disagree, obviously). Narnia, well...I'm sure it will make similar numbers to the first. Speed Racer looks far too strange, too different. Most are very turned off by all the CGI and colors. I thought it was an awesome movie, and people should really give it a shot, but most won't.

I wouldn't worry about Hulk. Everybody is on a crazy Marvel high right now after Iron Man. When I tell people about Marvel's future plans, they get giddy. GIDDY! People wanting to see The Incredible Hulk, which is something that Indy and Narnia don't have. Those too have an obligatory "go see" factor. The general public actually WANT to get off their couches and go watch the green goliath smash stuff.
