All have to go with

Wanted
Meet Dave
Hellboy 2
and Speed Racer.
Hellboy 2 will not flop by any means. The first movie was good and the buzz around this one is even better. Speed Racer will be a family film and I also think Wanted will draw in the crowds while the comic pushers are the only ones *****ing.

This summer Love guru and hellboy 2 will be flops.

Get Smart too could dissapoint.

When next year comes I will decide if dragonball will flop or what.

It it too early to say anything until the trailer comes out.

It's odd to hear people saying Hellboy 2 will flop. It was made for literally half of its predecessor due to the fact that the first one underperformed and Del Toro went into this one knowing that. So it would have to do amazingly bad to flop by defintion. It'll make more than enough for the bit of business the studio has it set for. Economically speaking, it's almost an indie summer movie. It also has a better buzz than the first one did at this point in its campaign.

The Street Fighter movie is SUCH a stupid idea (as stupid as the DC vs. Mortal Combat game!) - doomed to fail imo.

The thing about Speed Racer, Hellboy 2 and maybe even The Incredible Hulk is that these are movies that really shouldn't have been released in the summer movie season. If these were put out in slower months (say February or October) then they could possibly do very well.

Against bigger summer blockbuster movies I don't see them doing well at all. They just don't have the "cowbell" to compete. :word:

Hmm, I wish we could have multiple choices.

I'd say The Love Guru, Meet Dave, The Mummy, The Incredible Hulk, and Street Fighter (though I'm not sure the expectations for a movie starring Kristen Kreuk as Chun Li are that high to begin with) are all big risks.

Speed Racer, I notice is a popular choice, but I think will be fine just because of the huge ammount of advertising.

If the Hulk starts advertising more, it will do okay. Its got a great cast, the action looks top notch, but there has been basically no marketing thus far. Paramount needs to step it up.

Get Smart has been advertised a lot as well, so I don't see too much of a risk there because of the Carrell-factor.

I think TDK would've disappointed a little (factor in the first one being so dark, and the second even more so...you would've lost some kiddie audience) were it not for Ledger's death. I think Ledger's death ensured it's success.

As for Iron Man, it all depends on what expectations the studio has. I can't see it putting up much more than the original Fantastic Four. If the studio expects more than that, I suppose it will be a "flop." Though it should be noted that it is getting excellent reviews, Favreau is an excellent director, and it will be the first out of the gate, so to speak, of the summer season...so it could exceed FF.

Hellboy also depends on expectations. So long as expectations aren't too high, it'll do okay.

The rest should do okay.

Also, I'm going to make a CRAZY prediction just for the hell of it. Indy's budget is 185 million. While it won't outright bomb, it will do numbers similar to Superman Returns and at the end of the day be a disappointment.

Moviegoers have "Sex" on the brain: Poll
By Bob Tourtellotte

Sorry "Iron Man." But moviegoers have something else on their minds as spring gives way to summer -- like Sex.

"Sex and the City," based on HBO's hit television comedy about single women in New York, is the movie that fans are most excited about heading into Hollywood's key summer season, which starts on Thursday with the debut of comic book adventure "Iron Man," according to a new poll from online film site AOL Moviefone.

Not far behind was "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," which opens on May 22 with Harrison Ford returning as the adventure-seeking Jones.

In the poll of nearly 420,000 respondents, "Sex and the City," which premieres on May 30, proved most exciting to 32 percent of the movie fans, compared with 31 percent for "Indiana Jones."

"I think there were a lot of people curious about the series ("Sex and the City") who didn't see it on HBO," said Scott Robson, editor-in-chief at AOL Moviefone. "It's real fresh, and people who do know the program love the characters and love the show."

Robson said respondents also seemed curious to see what Ford and director Steven Spielberg had cooked up to rejuvenate the "Indiana Jones" franchise, which has not been in movie theaters in nearly 20 years.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Ford and "Sex" actress Sarah Jessica Parker were the male and female stars fans most wanted to see. The late actor Heath Ledger, playing the villainous Joker in the Batman movie "The Dark Knight," which opens on July 18, came in second behind Ford. Angelina Jolie, who appears in the action flick "Wanted," trailed Parker.

The summer movie season runs four months from May 1 through the end of August and can account for nearly 40 percent of annual ticket sales in the United States and Canada, so the period's movies are hugely important to Hollywood.

Ledger died last year at his home in New York of an accidental overdose of prescription medication.

Robson said Ledger's death would likely draw curiosity seekers to the new "Dark Knight."

"Iron Man" did not perform too poorly with about 7 percent excited to see it, and 22 percent said he was the superhero they were "most psyched" to see.

Two other big action films, "Speed Racer" (May 9) and "Hellboy 2," (July 11) appear to be getting a rough time from moviegoers before even reaching movie screens.

Only 2 percent of fans said there were most excited to see "Speed Racer," which is based on the popular cartoon of a boy race car driver. Worse, it topped the list of films moviegoers thought would be the biggest disappointment, with "Hellboy 2" close behind.

Among comedies, "Get Smart" (June 20) with Steve Carell proved to be the biggest drawing card, and in the family film category the top slot belonged to Disney/Pixar movie "Wall-E" (June 27).

I'm not sure how accurate these polls are. Just because people are more excited about one movie, does not mean they are not excited to see another or will not see another movie. This could actually be a good summer to have such a crowded box office. Gas prices are really high, that may restrict travel. People may have to look for alternative ways to enjoy their summer.

Yea, I didn't think about that. So far this year the box office has been low and I expected it to continue through the summer but you do bring up a good point.

I wouldn't be surprised if an article comes out where the movie industry is whining about Grand Theft Auto 4 hurting their business like they did when Halo 3 came out

Is Iron Man a popular enough character to pull in big crowds?

How popular was 300 before the film came out? Iron Man's action and effects look flawless, and the cast is top-notch. Advance reviews have been very positive, as well. Iron Man WILL kick off the summer movie season.

I'll repeat what I said before..

Iron Man might flop, but it's looking very good. It can suprise anyone,Speed Racer something for the family..or someone who wants to see something different. It will have a strong opening, but leveled money making afterword.

Incredible Hulk will do better than the first,a slightly average to better opening. Sales will increase slowly as it goes along for a while,Hancock will be the failure. With the superhero movies out, they are expecting something..and will get something else. Superheros are strictly DC and Marvel, this can't be broken in any circumstance.

There have already been several articles about that this week.

If Iron Man is as good as the reviews are saying, I think it will have great word-of-mouth and will do very well.

Iron Man isn't gonna flop. Theater was packed. Audience loved it.

Yeah, Iron Man clearly did not flop.

On a side note, I do not see a way that Chun Li will be successful. How could Kreuk and her agent really think a Chun Li movie is a good idea? Then again, after displaying her "talent" on Smallville, that may be the best role she was offered.

Hancock will be the failure. With the superhero movies out, they are expecting something..and will get something else. Superheros are strictly DC and Marvel, this can't be broken in any circumstance.

You do realize who the star of Hancock is, right? Outside of Legend of Bagger Vance, the man's yet to make a film that didn't make over a hundred million dollars. To say nothing of the fact that his last three films weren't even released in the summer. Factoring summer into the equation, and you've got some of the biggest grossing films of all-time under his belt.

Let's put it this way, I have a better chance of nailing Angelina Jolie, than Hancock does of flopping at the box office.

Tell that to Pixar's The Incredibles which made $261 million.

I wonder if Iron Man's success will help Hulk box office, sure they're different movies, but with Marvel Studios in charge, I'm much more optimistic about how the Hulk will be. Especially since it'll be the first to show the new connected Marvel universe.

I'd be really interested to see how many of the respondents to that poll were girls. I really don't see why anyone would be excited about Sex and the City, it doesn't have the normal "cool" factor of a TV show coming to the big screen because being on HBO it didn't have to follow any rules or pull their punches. Plus it's not action orientated so doesn't need a bigger budget. Go buy the DVDs it'll be the same thing.
