Another naive, poor attempt at screen writing by a fanboy follows. Not a good ending, but I had fun writing it.
Batman and Joker face each other through a clear plexiglas wall [think Long Halloween] in Arkham . . .
Joker (angry, spitting): Youll never win! The anarchy . . . the chaos! Gotham will still burn!
Batman (the slightest of smiles creasing his face): Joker, why so serious?
Joker (smashing into the Plexiglas, beating on it with his fist): ILL KILL YOU! ILL KILL YOU! ILL KILL YOU ALL!!
Batman turns and walks away, down the long corridor, the Joker screaming . . . .
Dr. Quinlan: Batman!
Dr. Quinlan appears, grabbing Batmans arm.
Dr. Quinlan: What did you do? What did you say to him?
Batman: Nothing he hasnt said before.
Dr. Quinlan: Youre no better than he is. You should be in Arkham, too.
Batman: And do you think you could help me, Doctor? Do you think you can help him?
Dr. Quinlan: Im going to try!
Batman: And Ill be waiting.
FADE
Gordon stands by the new Batsignal, the light blazing. He is looking out toward the city. Suddenly a voice behind him . . .
Batman: Any word on Dent?
Gordon, slightly startled, turns to face Batman who crouched on the edge of the roof.
Gordon (slightly irritated): No, nothing. I hope we dont find him. I hope hes at peace.
Batman observes Gordon, no emotion showing. Then, indicating the Batsignal . . .
Batman: New?
Gordon (looking down, somewhat apprehensive): Look, Im sorry. I thought that . . . .
Batman: You have nothing to explain. I would have done the same.
Gordon: There are going to be more of them. More Jokers. Well never get rid of them. But we need to fight them. We need your help.
Batman: Im not going anywhere. Not yet.
Batman stands and steps off the roof, disappearing into the night.
Gordon smiles, turns and walks away
Daytime, Wayne Manor. Construction equipment and workers are working on the new mansion. Bruce arrives and Alfred opens his car door.
Bruce: Alfred.
Alfred: Master Wayne. [Alfred gazes across the new Wayne Manor]. Almost finished, sir.
Bruce: It will be good to be home, Alfred. I wish Rachel could have seen it.
Alfred: Master Bruce . . . Perhaps she knows, sir. They all know.
Bruce looks up at the mansion.
Bruce: How about the modifications to the southeast foundation?
Alfred: Splendid, Sir! Youll nevah know the place once you see it.
Bruce: Good.
Alfred: By the way, sir, this envelope arrived for you. [Alfred hands Bruce an envelope] It arrived this morning, special delivery.
Bruce opens the envelope and takes out a paper. Both men read the paper. The paper reads:
HOW DID THE BAT LEARN TO FLY?
Alfred: But what does it mean?
Bruce: It means they endure, Alfred. But so do I . . . so do I.
