I thought this movie was supposed to be using practical effects.
^ The Thing 82 is the original in this series.
yes and the guy in the suit was no other than gunsmokes james arness!Looks nice.
But did you all know The Thing 1982 was NOT the original, the original was made in 1951 called "The Thing from Another world" and it was a poor adaptation of John Campbell's "Who Goes There" because in the 50's they didn't have the time or the technology to do the monster justice as a shapeshifter like in the novel but instead they had a guy in a suit that looks like a killer frankenstein vegetable that sucks blood.
30 years later, Carpenter remade the 1951 movie but making a more faithful adaptation of the novel "Who Goes There" and has became the definitive adaptation of the novel.
I can't to see it on opening night and going to Universal Florida for Halloween to see their Horror Nights and all even with The Thing maze.
Black Swan is proof imo that a movie needs to be clear to the public to make money. it doesnt matter if its fast or slow. the same IMO with Inception. if Nolan wouldnt explain everything even to 5 year old kids it would bomb hard.I like (not love) what I'm seeing. You can't tell me that John Carpenter wouldn't have used CG if it were at his disposal. The glimpses of the two headed monster are AWESOME!! I've always wondered what it was and why it was the way it was, so seeing it in motion even just for a split second is really cool to see! Can't wait to see it on the big screen! Yes, this "Thing" is bigger and louder than Carpenter's, but it kinda has to be in order for it to succeed in today's market.
I'm sure it won't be as good as the original, but it looks like it respects the original while putting a modern sense of storytelling and that's all I'd ever ask for.
a good example from this trailer is when the thing jumps out of the ice. just what the f.. was this supposed to be? is this a summer action movie directed by Bay or Rartner? no. this is supposed to be a horror movie. dear lord. they learned nothing from Black Swan.
the Thing 2011 was meant to be a horror movie. they are making it a glossy looking action movie.Maybe an horror movie has nothing to learn from a psychological drama ?

I'm getting a bit of an Aliens vibe from the trailer, looks like it'll have a sizable dosage of action. Which I'm fine with so long as it still has the suspense and paranoia of the 1982 movie.
