On The Thing site, click the red dot above where it says survival camp and after it loads, move to the left and click on the "trust no one" button to see the clip.

Edit: The film's YT channel posted a video of Splitface:

Pretty neat effects. Even though it is part CG/part practical, it really reminds me a lot of the effects in the original film.

MEW getting her Ripley on at the end of the red band trailer. :D

They could retcon her to live easily enough. We just don't know if she'll be human or if she'll be rescued.

I have a feeling she gets rescued but knowing if she is the Thing will be up to the viewers to decide. I can't remember if The Thing can copy itself or splits its body apart and spread.

I can't wait till she dies.

Not that I'm a fanboy or anything, but why do you hate MEW so much?

For that matter, why would you even come into a thread just to complain about something without even offering any constructive criticism?

Re: red band trailer. Damn, that splitfaced thing looks great, the upside down crawl is pretty cool, too. The "stinger" thing isn't too shabby either.

Did we just see the end of the movie at 0:58? :awesome:

I finished watching the 1982 movie just a short while ago. It still holds up nearly 30 years later. This movie has a lot to live up to, but I think it'll be an entertaining and worthy prequel. I'm not expecting it to live up to the 1982 movie, but I expect it to be solid. I'm pretty stoked right now we're finally getting a new Thing movie after so long.

Agreed, not only was the stop motion animation ahead of its time, but the cast was superb. I think what really made the film work was how The Thing was handled. By not showing it too much, it made the film all the more terrifying especially with the theme of being "Who's who?" as a nice throwback to Invasion of The Body Snatchers.

The best part though was the ambiguous ending. Much like Deckard from Blade Runner, we have a never ending game of Is he? Is he not? We don't know the answer and we shouldn't.

Although, I couldn't help but notice that when the Childs starts drinking the whiskey at the end, The Thing theme starts playing.

Could be unintentional, but you never know. :cwink:

You could take it that way. I took it as they are both uninfected and are just resigned to the fact that they are gonna freeze to death out there... whilst enjoying some nice whisky.

There is an alternate version proving MacReady was human and Keith David said his character Childs was still human when he was asked at a convention. Neither is canonical however so we're left with ambiguity which works great.

The Thing doesn't have a theme. But the movie does. If you count the game as canon, Childs dies, Mac lives. Uninfected.

Just came across this quick interview bit where Winstead says the Thing maze looked a lot like the actual film sets...

Actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who stars in "The Thing," says the maze based on the movie freaked her out a bit during one of the preview nights.

"They did such a good job," she says. "I've never been to Halloween Horror Nights before so I didn't know what to expect, but just to see the level of how far they go with it and how they recreated the sets from the film exactly and the monsters, aliens and creatures exactly, it's like you're living through the film. It took me back, certain parts of the maze, I was like 'Am I on set, where am I'?"

Sounds good.

It annoys me that is calleda prequel even though it's pretty much a play by play of the original film. Remake, anyone?

Oh, so I take it you've seen an advanced screening of the film, or maybe even read the script?

/sarcasm

I've read way too much of this type of nonsense on IMDB. I would rather not see it here on the Hype.

I agree. It's a movie that works very well on so many levels. It does a great job of toying with your mind and making you feel uneasy as to who The Thing could be.

I'm simply going by what articles have said and seeing the trailer, which was like watching the old film in 2 minute form.
