Prequel to 'The Thing'

Making a prequel focusing on the Norwegian camp seems really redundant to me - particularly since one of the points of that scene was to allude to what was going to happen at Outpost 31, which would in essence make the existing film a "rehash" of events that had happened prior to the film off-screen. I probably didn't explain that very well, but it just bugs me.

I know what you mean, it is pointless.

It'll be a rehash of the old film but with Norwegians instead of Americans. Sounds great... And I bet it's all done with CGI.

Wonder if they need any Norwegians...:awesome:

I'll be skipping this one.

Also, I can't believe some people actually liked Ghost of Mars. That was by far Carpenter's worst film and one of the few, if only films of his I don't own.

I missed it in the theatre and ended up buying it on DVD figuring it would be pretty good...:(

If the movie's a bomb, it'll fade away into obscurity.

"Why you tryin so hard to let that mother****a in?!?"

Well...its one of my very favorite, not just horror, but movies in general.
Its probly 75/25 for it to be bad. I was to little to see the original @ the theater, so ill give it a go opening weekend.

There is a precedent here with The Fog. The Thing >>> The Fog, but I've never seen the Tom Welling Fog.

And you never need to. It's one half copy scene for scene of JC's Fog, and one half make up stuff that boring and terrible.

Not sure how I feel about this, but I suppose if done right it could turn out good. The 1982 remake is one of my all-time favorite movies, it never gets old to me.

*currently listening to Ennio Morricone's score to this film*

Favorite Sci-Fi/ Horror film favorite from John Carpenter. And I bought a Macready style jacket because of this film.

This is one of those films that holds up. And shouldn't get molested with a prequel or a sequel. The ambiguous ending with Mac and Childs and a bottle of J&B was how it should be left with. The paranoia and the melancholy isolation and sense of foreboding sets it apart. Not knowing all the answers not knowing who to trust.

Its like when they remade Michael Myers they took away the fear of not knowing whats driving him.

If Macs brother was with the norwegians then how would they explain his lack of saying anything when him and Copper where investigating the remnants of the camp? Not a good idea.

The Thing begins.... Thing:year one

Thing:Origins

I can't think of anything else.

The thing: Episode 1 the phantom menace?

Kieth David is star till this day to me cause of this movie, and im still lookin for Mac's sombreroish hat.

I've done some research on Mac's Fur Felt Sombrero its actually a leftover item from another movie. Try looking at Outpost 31 they might be able to help fill you in where to find one like Macs. They are quite expensive if you find one.
I'm saving for a Indy if I'm gonna buy something expensive on my head.

To be fair.. The Thing is in itself a remake.

Actually no. 1951's The Thing from Another World was based on a novel and changed the story radically. Carepnter's The Thing was also an adaptation of the novel and this time with very faithful representation of ther story. It wasnt a remake in its true sense, it was another and completely different take on bringing the written story called Who Goes There to life

if they make this I'll watch it, that norwegian camp definately intriges me.
if they made the alien prequel I'd watch that because the planet and all those eggs intrigues me.

as I viewer it doesn't bother me at all if I know where a movie is heading, you know where a movie is heading ANYWAY if the script is predictable. I mean c'mon, why did people watch titantic - 'what, you mean the ship goes down?! :wow: '
its the journey not the destination especially if done well.

Yea but how is the journey gonna go well?

Norwegian scientists discover an alien ship under the ice.

Alien infiltrates Norwegian scientists, imitating them.

Loads of paranoia and suspense ensues because they don't know if their friend is really their friend or the alien.

Hold on, haven't we seen this before?

you have except the discovery of the alien ship and the alien in its true form. I agree you probably don't need this movie but if they make it I'll watch it.

Yea I'll probably watch it.

But you just know they are gonna throw a load of CGI at it. The first one was so brilliant because the SFX were so visceral and real looking. The FX still hold up today. CGI just won't have that effect I don't think.

The Thing Begins

Tagline: Just when you though it was safe to go back to Antartica:dry:

OR:

The Thing Begins:
The first chapter that will make the original have a tagline that says:
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Antarctica.

yeah, there is something to be said about practical effects that cgi just loses. I watched the american warewolf in london and the effects are still utterly amazing 20 years later after they were made.
