Assault on Precinct 13
Halloween
The Fog
Escape from New York
The Thing
After that we had Christine and Starman, by no means his finest work but certainly very respectable, and after that came Big Trouble, Prince of Darkness and They Live (Cant vouch for the latter two, but Big Trouble rocks my socks off!) It was by Memoirs of an Invisible Man that he started to slip. Sorry for the rant, I'm a huge fan.![]()
I haven't even seen Assault on Precinct 13...I am ashamed. I have seen the one w/ Dre De Mateo...and even still was a waste of time.
Dude...I stand corrected forgot about Snake...and ain't no bigger lover of Kieth David and Roddy Pipper's alley fightthan me...you are right about Christine.
Memoirs was more of a Chevy chase/CGI vehicle than Carpenter's direction, but yea that started the slide...
Can we agree that Vampires and the one about Mars/Ice Cube were nearly unwatchable...Still that's a damn good track record. I hope this happens.
The only JC movies that I like are The Thing and Halloween and I don't even really like Halloween that much. I like watching They Live but it isn't a good movie and is the movie that should be remade.
What I'm getting at is, I think that JC isn't a very good director but he got lucky a few times.
Escape from L.A has some redeeming qualities,
I saw that in theaters. I didn't like it very much.Ghosts Of Mars was pretty good. Did you see that?
It had a good premise, but the editing and music ruined it, imo. I'd like to get my hands on the actual film material and re-cut the whole movie + add some blood'n'gore. It had a potential to be a very good 80's style scifi horror action, it just failed in the execution.Ghosts Of Mars was pretty good. Did you see that?
Escape from L.A has some redeeming qualities, but I will not deny that you can see John Carpenter has bocome more miss than hit nowadays. I still was always hoping he would helm a western (like say Jonah Hex).
