Comics Preview for ASM #537

I don't understand the timeline of events here. Pete is dropped off to the secret Avengers for help, but now they have no clue where he is. Did he run off?

Looks good so far.

FINALLY! A Spidey and Torch sighting. Been waiting to see a conversation between the two since Civil War started up.

There was a note in #536 that says this is basically the timeline (I think):

ASM #536 (first part, where he runs off)
Civil War #5 & #6
The Rest of ASM #536
ASM #537

Looks good! They need to make ASM's cover into a poster!

I am excited. I love the flaming Spider-Man symbol in the sky!

The artist on Punisher is pretty sweet.

Are you talking about Ron Garney on ASM? or the artist doing War Journal?
I think WJ looks dumb w/ the bodybuilder style Frank.

Considering all the speculation about MJ getting it and something "earth shattering" happening to Spidey in the next few months. Does anyone else see something bad coming out of this...

I was talking about War Journal. To be honest, I didn't even notice how big he drew Castle. I agree his being more buff than Captain America and Luke Cage is pretty silly. But the guy has very smoot drawing style that I like. Sort of like JRjr. but cleaner.

And BTW- in ASM- the old ratted out by hooker thing has been done to death. What the hell is wrong with JMS?

He's a no talent steaming pile.

I'd hate to say he purposely copies other writers constantly. I think it's more of a condition of his to actually think he comes up with this stuff originally

Truly it looks that way.

I mean a Star Trek rip, Highlander Rip (For Spider-Man's Totem origin(their can only be one, immortals feeding off essences, CMON!!!!), Doc Ock Rip, Molten Man Rip, GreenGoblin Rip, Gamma Radiation Villian, EGAD!!!!

It hurts to acknowledge the state of Spider-Man comics

Worst rip off all, ripping of the lame and very recent power increases that Jenkins instilled to make the character more "like a spider."

That's the worst rip because the original concept was already a terrible idea.

NO I DON'T LIKE HATING SPIDER-MAN COMICS.

But JMS sucks man. :thing:

Same here.
I hope come September Joe Q lets the new team on ASM do their own storys and not force them to write his own crap ass agenda.

Pros and Cons for this issue...

Pros:
Spidey and Torch interaction! Finally!!!

Cons:
JMS uses hackneyed plot device...again.

Still not buying it.

I'm drawing a complete blank on instances of this in other places, while it "feels" like you're right. Could you mention a few examples? :yay:

Hm...so is this arc seven or eight issues?

The solicit says eight, but the preview says seven.

Just wondering.

Kind of like the way Garney does the Human Torch, but other than that I've not much to say.

How dare you, sir!

Karen Page was a JUNKIE, not a HOOKER! :cwink:

she was a porn star/hooker too :o

Karen Page is from Daredevil, right? Don't know if I've read anything with her in it...

Preview looks pretty good. I'm just guessing that Spider-Man recovers and goes on the run completely in Civil War # 6.

It's seven parts, #538 will be part seven and with #539 the "Back In Black" story will start.

Karen Page was DD's first girlfriend. She left him to pursue and acting career. In the "Born Again" arc from the mid 80's, she was many years later down and out in South America, working as a porn actress/hooker to support her heroin addiction. She needed money for a hit, and sold DD's identity to a local dealer, who eventually sold it to The Kingpin.

So, yeah, that's an example of what I was talking about. But- there's just been so many similar instances in so many movies, TV shows, etc. they mesh together into a cliche'. By the time Born Again was published it was already old. It isn't even always hookers, but desperate characters who sell out the "unsuspecting hero".
