Punisher 2 should start filming around January 1, 2007

Contrary to popular belief, this movie was not a huge hit or money maker. If the sequel does happen, you guys will be lucky to get it at all.

Weren't they supposed to get this movie out this year?

I wonder what happened :) .

Can't you go attempt to annoy everyone somewhere else. I know you've been working the x-boards for a while. then you should move to the supes boards.

Thats a popular belief??? Where you gettin that?? We know it had horrible box office numbers. But it did very well on dvd which made them believe that putting it up against Kill Bill 2 was a giant mistake and realize it had much more potential. And the shooting script is still being worked on so who knows whats going on.

Well I guess it would be the popular belief of these forums ;) .

What we do know what's going on, was that it was claimed this movie would be slated for release this year. Which clearly isn't happening.

There's no rush or demand to make a sequel for this movie.

Do I have to say it over and over again??? It isn't a popular belief here period.

What we know is that a script is being worked on, locations have been scouted, and Tom Jane plans and seems intent on it.

Yeah, and the same goes for a lot of movies that never get made.

Okay I was just telling you what was going on. The movie is in pre production. Clear enough for your or you just gonna make another dicky comment?

If there were no Punisher sequel in the works, we would have had the Punisher Director's cut in our hands already. I.E. Elektra and Daredevil! I believe that Lionsgate is being extra cautious this time and doesn't want to drop the ball again. I kid you not, the Punisher dvd has been very profitable to Lionsgate even Lionsgate head honcho said that. Remember it was an Artisan movie, Lionsgate just picked up the rights after acquiring Artisan. The majority of movies don't even make their budgets back at the box office. So in a certain sense the Punisher was a success, almost everyone I know own a copy or love the movie. I see people wearing the t-shirts, playing the game, which before the movie people hadn't even heard of the Punisher.

Funny - I find the same thing most people I know enjoyed the film too and the number of people wearing punisher shirts is much higher now than previous to the film's release. Here in the UK it was slaughtered by the pretentious film critics as not being sophisticated but everyone I talk to about the movie has good things to say about it - this is the case with both male and females. I just find the lack of any official news from lionsgate concerning...

I watch the Punisher more then any other comic film, even The Crow and Batman. I watch it about once a week if not more. My wife is the same way. Were not huge punisher fans really its just the movie is down to earth, almost CGI less and just plain kicks ass.

CGI as we know it guys is over.. No movie like The Punisher should be done with CGI. (Maybe to edit out the stuff like oh say a boommic or the flip thing for the truck in the movie). But other than that... no. The Punisher 2 is set for a 2007 release and the story is already adopted. Jigsaw is the villian and FBI Stephanie West is gonna be a pain in the ass to get but hey they will. Three way war for them. Jigsaw saying he'll kill Castle and West saying she'll bring both of them to justice, blah blah blah.

Other than that, thats the whole ****ing story. So no pissing your pants about it. Haha.:unishr:

...thank you for your post. But it doesn't look like they're using that script if you read the link and TJ's comments.

Thats what I've been seeing everywhere. Hmm need to better my resources.

Is it still going to shoot in Baton Rouge?? I wanted to go see. :(

We all know it's coming it's a matter of priority and readiness for Lionsgate. Hey Red there's still 6 months of 2006 left so if they start filming in Jan 07 and borrow Dr. Evils Time machine... :)

I thought there was completely different circumstances. We were all under the impression that they had a shooting script ready to go but apparently they must have ditched it and decided to do a rewrite. Of course 2006 isn't possible now because it seems they started from scratch again. Oh well.

Where did everyone read the Hensleigh script?

Where's Hensleigh anyway, all we hear is Jane but no one else. I think Hellboy 2 will be out before Punisher 2. It's in development hell, LGF already dropped Black Widow (but that makes sense, girl ass kickers bomb at the box office)!!! It's hard to be positive when they take one step foward and two steps back on the devolopment of Punisher 2.:unishr:

Hopefully he is locked away and working hard on scripts. But I am also feeling a tad of Hulk limbo going on here. Hopefully something will come soon to make that go away.

I know Arad changed positions but what exactly is different now?

Arad is not head of Marvel anymore. He will still produce most of their upcoming films he's just got the freedom to do other things besides that.

I guess they didn't like the script they had. Hopefully they keep some of the elements from it.

They (LG) probably don't want Hensleigh at all anymore. Not even his script, which I thought was pretty bad ass. As long as it's a better script, and they get a better director, it'll be worth the wait.:unishr:

I liked Hensleigh a lot, and the guy deserves a lot more credit than what he's given. I liked his serious, 70's, and gritty tone, and I enjoyed the cheesy parts too, such as the "group rate discount" type of lines (part of that 70's feel again, I guess, a la Roger Moore's 007 flicks)- it gave a very distinct feel to Punisher, reminding me a little bit of Pulp Fiction. I loved how the marvel films- spidey, x-men, daredevil, hulk, punisher, and even fantastic four- all had distinct feels. But now with ghost rider, singer's move over to supes and x3's being given to ratner, and the possibility of hensleigh not doing punisher 2, I'm losing a bit of that feel.

3 things killed this film's Box Office: 1) Kill Bill- it was another revenge flick, a sequel, better advertised, and Quentin Tarantino's, whose a baby of the critics. 2) Critics panned it- critics have a tendency to want all films to fit one specific mold that they think determines "quality", and they'll never accept anything otherwise. For example, look at the aforementioned cheesy dialogue- it was intentional, but that was one of the things critics used to tear the film apart, attributing it to just poor writing. Maybe if it was a critical darling like sam raimi or bryan singer it would be ok, but not someone like Hensleigh. 3) Bad word of mouth from the comic fans. Fans of the comic didn't want him plotting, planning, or trying to get revenge, they just wanted to see the no-holds-barred punisher of the comics. They were dissapointed, they were the ones along with critics seeing the film early, and since everyone who saw it early complained, noone else went to see it once it opened.

I think Lionsgate is smart enough to figure this stuff out- I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that they're just taking their time to get the best possible product, and also that we get our Punisher Director's Cut once they start filming the sequel. DVD sales showed that people did enjoy this film (I haven't spoken to anyone yet who hasn't), and it isn't a franchise that should just be tossed in the trash.

Number 3 is ridiculous. The Punisher plots and plans all the time in the comics.
