Purge the Fourth

I still need to see part 3. But I'm all for the franchise to keep plugging along. It pays for Blumhouse's other stuff too.

Please be as good or better than the second one.

Of course it is.

Guess they did write themselves into a corner with the third film. I'd rather see something come along as a sequel, because I figure a lot of people would still be itching for the Purge to happen.

Prequel or reboot. They didn't leave themselves any other options.

First Poster for ‘The First Purge’ Goes Full Trump

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

Coming off the most successful film in the series, The Purge: Election Year, creator James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year) returns alongside the producers of this worldwide phenomenon: Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).

Of course. I am sure that is going to rile up the crazies.

The second and third installments were great. Not sure if I need a prequel though.

It's funny that this turned out to be such a successful series and a half decent social commentary. I remember when I first heard about the first one, I thought it was the stupidest idea ever. And the first movie was crappy. But they really turned it into something worthwhile after that.

That poster is priceless, but I can't really say I'm excited for this. The first movie sucked, but Anarchy and Election Year were decent. I'll probably see it eventually, but the prequel idea alone is a big turn off.

Call me crazy, but I still like the first Purge movie the most of them all.

So, there were enough people who didn't want to participate that the government sent in their own people to rile things up?

Sounds about right.

My review.

Much like the Election Year, it's has its fair share of good moments, but it's nowhere near as competent as Purge Anarchy. This is the first one of these where you actually notice the small budget constraints. This is the story of how it all got started yet the first 30 or so minutes, you don't feel the scope of it. And I gotta say they lay on the social commentary a bit too thick, even by Purge standards. However, once the Purge starts, it starts getting decent. I dug the hell out of the glowing contact lenses... it made for some really creepy shots. Best thing I can say about this movie is some of the characters most noticeably the guy who is basically the Joker of the movie. He steals every scene he's in. That being said, overall it's just okay. Purge Anarchy remains to be the best of the series.
6.5/10

These movies are awful. They even look awful and like they were shot on shoestring budgets.

Like that scene with Marisa Tomei and the Senator in front of a crowd and they are so obviously NOT standing in front of a crowd. Some of the worst green screen ever. The movie looked cheap and bush league as hell.

Not to mention, the writing for that Marisa Tomei subplot was awful.

This looks like Racial Tension: The Movie.

Supposedly the next one will be the last. Well, until they decide to reboot.

'The Purge' creator says he's thought of a 'really cool' way to end film franchise

This summer, The First Purge raked in a more than respectable $69 million at the box office. But will we soon see the last film in the franchise, about an annual 12-hour period of sanctioned law-breaking? James DeMonaco, who has written all four Purge movies and directed the first three films, tells EW that he has an idea for the next entry in the series, which he also thinks will be the last.

“I have it in my head,” says DeMonaco. “I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”
