Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

That is actually good casting.

This sums it up about Leo;

"One of the things I like about Leo is he just doesn't plug himself into two movies a year," says Tarantino, drawing an unstated comparison with current stars like Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, who are omnipresent on social media as well as in multiplexes. "He kind of stands alone today, like Al Pacino or Robert De Niro were in the '70s, where they weren't trying to do two movies a year — they could do anything they wanted, and they wanted to do this. So that means this must be pretty good."

I admit there are even some thespians in the game that rival Leo that do a few flicks a year. Different strokes. Looking at his filmography I didn't know The Revenant back in 2015 was the last thing he was in. Goddamn.

It’s his quality control that’s admirable. He doesn’t do TV and only one movie every few years. Obviously, 98% of actors can’t afford to do that.

I liked Leo's performance. Margot Robbie does very little in the film. Also liked Brad Pitt's performance.

I love Tarantino's movies, and I love how much of a film dork he is, but I feel like I'd never wanna spend more than 5 minutes with him personally.

When I was interning at IFP many years ago I got to meet Tarantino and speak to him on a couple occasions and it was a real pleasure, he was more than happy to engage with me in conversation just talking about movies and geeking out. I can't remember what our second conversation was about but the first time we talked for like 15 minutes about Fulci's Zombi 2 and Godard's Contempt. It was great. There were far more famous people than me milling about at these events and yet QT took the time to talk to me because I wanted to talk film with him, and you could tell he enjoyed talking with me about it because he was talking about the art form that he loves.

Can someone confirm this spoiler for the film?
Does Jack Nicholson really have a cameo in the movie?

I haven't seen the film. Someone did (he happens to be a moderator on another discussion forum) at Cannes and he clarified about the rumored cameo.

Quentin Tarantino Explains Why Tom Cruise Wasn't Cast In 'Once Upon A Time'

If you just run down the IMDB page of Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” it’s clear that the filmmaker has no shortage of stars that are wanting to work with him. Outside of “Avengers: Endgame,” there’s perhaps no better cast, based on sheer star power, that has been put together in the last decade. But believe it or not, one of the biggest stars on the planet was passed over during the casting process for the film.

Speaking on the HappySadConfused podcast, Tarantino discussed how “Mission: Impossible” star Tom Cruise was actually one of the folks that were thought of for the role of Cliff Booth in ‘Once Upon a Time.’ In the film, Cliff is played by Brad Pitt and is the stunt-double/confidant for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton. And when Tarantino was thinking about the duo of Cliff and Rick, he had various people in mind, including Cruise.

“We talked about it,” Tarantino said when asked if Cruise would consider playing the Cliff role that Pitt was ultimately cast in. “He’s a great guy and we really hit it off. [A collaboration] could happen on something else.”

However, as the filmmaker continued, he explained that really it was always going to be Pitt and DiCaprio, but if one of them didn’t work out, he’d have had to move onto other parings.

“The reality is, was it always these two guys? It’s the casting coup of the decade,” said the filmmaker. “You can’t count on that. They both have to respond to it, they both have to want to play those roles, they both have to be available, there’s a whole lot of stuff there. And if you’re casting an actor, casting a team, where the one guy is a double of another guy then they have to match up in the right kind of way.”

He added, “So the reality is I had maybe eight different pairings of actors that could go together in a realistic way in this kind of situation. Now the ones that I got were definitely my number 1 [choices], but I could never just be confident about that, I had to have a few different backups and a few different exploratory ways to go.”

While the Tom Cruise casting didn’t actually come to fruition, it appears that Tarantino has the actor in his Rolodex and is ready to call when needed. And if that’s not a sign of reaching the mountaintop in filmmaking, then we don’t know what else is. There aren’t many folks that can confidently say that Tom Cruise is their Plan B.

“I didn’t quite look at it like that! But uhh…” he said before bursting into laughter.

Margaret Qualley basically played the same role in The Nice Guys.

Question about the third act. Major spoilers.
Wikipedia had a full plot summary the other day that accurately described the first two acts of the film, but then had a way different third act where Rick, Cliff, Bruce Lee, and I forget who else had a showdown with the entire Manson family and killed them all, but with Cliff dying from his injuries. Does anybody know if Tarantino actually had a cut with that ending? I figured maybe it was from an early screening from one of the festivals.

Got a ****ing family reunion this weekend so won't be hitting this till sunday late afternoon probably. Damn close knit fam. :argh:

It was fake news.
