Is there a single/stand alone Spawn Graphic novel that I could get WITHOUT having to collect the series?

Also, if not, what is the best Spawn book to get?

ps.

I AM NEW TO SPAWN

I would say just buy the first volume and see if you like the character at all. Or you could pick up the HBO animated series.

I have the HBO series on DVD. But I'm just wondering, is there like a 1 shot graphic novel or do they only collect the series?

More specific please?

I think there are a few minis put together; look on Amazon.

Okay... I looked online, but they mostly have his origin or other collections...

So many I don't know where to start looking.

If you could recommend 1 book, what would it be?

I'm not too knowledgeable about the Spawn trades, so I can't help you out there.

Spawn sucks, don't waste your cash.

I just have the first volume because the character was new and most of the stories were stand alone that it's pretty easy to follow and McFarlane's art is good in it.

Currently I don't know what's happening in Spawn, I've read that Al Simmons is no longer a Spawn and there's a new person wearing the Spawn suit, the stories are just blah, no real importance, nothing that really stands out and continuity is probably ignored.

Just get the Armageddon Collection/Trades, New Flesh Collection, and Neo Noir. Pretty much the David Hine trades are very well recommended and accessible. If you wanna get the first origin trade, go ahead. But i really wouldn't recommend it too much when you could just get Hine's stuff which imo is A TON better read.
