I just want a new Jason flick...without the stain of that reboot from a few years back. I tried to watch it...and I didn't even make it through to the end. Just didn't have the horror or the energy.
A Friday the 13th film should be simple, terrifying, and yes, a little campy and self-aware. You have to ignore that none of theses teens go into the woods with cell phones and guns and spare tires on their Jeeps. BUT...when the killing starts, you just need one lone lady to outfox the killer and put him down (supposedly) in the end. It's not complicated.

Also, nothing will ever top the ending of part 6, for me. Seeing Jason's body chained to the rock at the bottom of the lake, with the one eye still open...that's how you end it. Jason always ready for the next go 'round.

This damn lawsuit ruined the videogame and now it's still preventing films. Not sure if to blame Sean Cunningham or Victor Miller

If Miller wins, does he get paid for every new film or what? I wish this happened in the 90's when Jason Goes to Hell was in early development

Spill the tea on this. What happened with the video game & movies?

When the lawsuit started, the game developers/publisher had to put dlc and major updates on hold. They had new maps and skins such as Uber Jason and the ship from Jason X ready to be released soon as well as a major gameplay update with a game engine upgrade but they aren't allowed to release anything new until the suit has been resolved. It's been over a year and the game is still active to play but there hasn't been any new content since over a year or two.

From what I've read, there can't be a new film released either until that is completely resolved

Thank you for the knowledge

Larry Zerner Breaks Down This Week’s Oral Arguments in the ‘Friday the 13th’ Case; May/June Decision Expected
According to this, which is pretty recent news, dated Feb. 2020, it looks like possibly, some verdict may finally be delivered in a case that looks like a huge legal nightmare.
I didn't realize that such a battle is being fought over this.
It makes sense now why it has been over a decade since we seen Jason on the screen again.
I just hope now since it says May or June something finally gets done.
Otherwise this may never get filmed in our lifetimes.

Yeah, I don’t really get it either. He owns the title Friday the 13th and anything relating to the first movie like kid Jason, but doesn’t necessarily own hockey mask wearing Jason?

He also doesn’t seem to be a fan of *that* Jason. Basically, it just comes down to paying him when they want to make a new movie I guess? Unless he has his own artistic plans to reboot the franchise off of the first film and more the mother being the killer.

The question that always plagues me about Jason is this: if I were to write my own version of Friday the 13th and reimagine it, would I elucidate his supernatural abilities?

There's no doubt I would employ them for his character.

In the realm of slasher/killer genres, he is the epitome in my mind.

He is a horror icon who cannot be subdued.

BUT... would I expound on the origins of his powers? Or the timing? Or the mechanism?

Or would I simply portray him as such, without any origin?

Now that there seems to be some traction on the Friday the 13th franchise, I reiterate:

I’ve always wrestled with one question about Jason: if I rewrote Friday the 13th, should I explain his supernatural powers? There’s no doubt I’d keep that unkillable edge—it’s what makes him horror’s ultimate icon. But would I reveal how, when, or why he gained those abilities … or let him remain a mysterious force of terror? What do you think?
