friday-the-13th.jpg

STATUS: Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is developing a Friday the 13th film for New Line Cinema. Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake) is in final negotiations to direct. Mark Wheaton was briefly on the project as screenwriter, but is no longer involved - Freddy Vs Jason's Damian Shannon & Mark Swift are on board. Per producer Brad Fuller, the new film will not be a direct sequel to Freddy vs. Jason or Jason X, but instead seems to be a remake/reimagining of the first 3-4 films of the series. New Line owns the Friday the 13th title, but no subtitle (if any) has been announced for this new film. The project was on hold while rights issues were dealt with. Now that those issues have been worked out, with the Platinum Dunes producers saying that the film will be a Paramount/New Line co-production and might be ready for release near the end of 2008.

'Friday the 13th' Remake Casting Breakdown - By Nameless

"The breakdown (obviously) contains major spoilers from Damian Shannon and Mark Swift's screenplay (also wrote F V J), so make sure you want to know the fate of some characters before you read on. The remake being helmed by Marcus Nispel (Director of TCM) shoots February 11 in Austin, Texas.

WHITNEY
Caucasian. Mid 20s. Younger sister to Clay. Pretty and strong girl. She has the smarts and the will to survive in the most desperate of circumstances.

CLAY Caucasian. Late 20s. Older brother of Whitney. He's good-looking and has a quiet inner confidence. He's a dedicated and smart guy. All the girls definitely find him attractive.

CHUMBLER
Caucasian, early to mid-20s. A little chubby, but he wears his size well, along with his cool chin beard. He has a tendency to make wear his attraction to attractive girls on his sleeve. He has no shame. Please submit your funniest character actors.

TRENT
Caucasian, early to mid-20s. The Alpha-Male. He's got money, and he wants you to be his friend... especially if you can do something for him.

JENNA Caucasian, early to mid-20s. Trent's date for the weekend. She's great-looking, athletic, and the adventurous type. We wonder why she would be with Trent.

LAWRENCE
Black, early to mid-20s. Good-looking and funny as hell. He's smart and is already trying to get his own company started. He puts on a white sounding "good ol' boy" voice when talking to his business associates.

NOLAN He wears a T-shirt that says F**K CHRISTMAS - The asterisks are snowflakes. But when an older woman walks by, he crosses his arms, covering it. Nolan poses as a rebel, but he's just as square as the rest of us.

CHELSEA Attractive college girl. Friends with BREE, but not as sexy. PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED

BREE Attractive friend to Chelsea, definitely the sexier of the two, and she dresses to make sure you can tell the difference. Hot as Hell!

WADE
Caucasian, mid-20s. He's technologically inclined... at least enough to use a GPS Receiver. He knows the story about Camp Crystal Lake and he tells it to his crew around a campfire.

MIKE Caucasian, mid-20s. Whitney's boyfriend. He's a genuine and logical guy. He makes sure that his friends, and especially Whitney, are safe and taken care of. He's a really nice guy.

AMANDA Caucasian, mid-20s, voluptuous. Perfectly tanned and sexy. She's into Richie...at least for the weekend. PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED

RICHIE Caucasian, mid-20s. Funny and definitely attracted to Amanda. He doesn't waste time making a move on her."

Awesome!:woot: I LOVED Damian and Marks' version of Freddy v Jason, better than the other drafts. They really know their stuff, and I have full confidence they'll one hell of a script. I'm wondering how much of the mythology they'll keep and how much of their own will come into play. Either way, I'm stoked to see this movie moving forward.

What does Englund have to do with anything?

Anyway, I'm not surprised after Halloween. It'll likely suck like the original, though.

It is prolly going to be a remake due to the success of Halloween.

Sounds good to me

Anyone read any of the drafts that got passed on?

What? This is being written by the writers of FvJ!?!?!

A Friday the 13th prequel could be good. I don't see where they could go after Jason X.

Believe this is gonna be a remake. I'm sure they could just make a Friday movie from scratch with jason already the man,and just do flashbacks of his past. Though the trend is to do remakes etc.. I dont know if I would see friday 13th remake,I wasnt a real fan of the first one(Friday 13th pt. 3 in 3-d was the stuff, then pt4.)

"This duo, we're sure you recall, ultimately won out and penned 2003's successful Freddy vs. Jason after New Line had spent years developing the big screen battle royale."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Then this movie will be 'solid gold' as he puts it HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

p.s. Note the word 'successful'. LMFAO.

Mixed feelings on this one.

On one hand I have been interested in the prospects of a Friday remake for years now, which odds are is definately the case with this bit of news, but on the other hand I really will hate to see the previous continuity become a thing of the past. I'm sure the remake will touch upon Momma Voorhees' attacks upon Camp Crystal Lake, most likely during the opening of the film, but Jason will no doubt be the film's main protagonist. Hockey mask and all.

Just take the first 6 issues of the dc/wildstorm FT13TH book by Palmiotti and Gray it was awesome!

If it is Jason, is it really a remake? And if it is, isn't every Jason movie after FT13 part 2 just a remake of the second movie (stupid kids go to camp iwth no development and get killed off one by one randomly with only race and sexual intercourse determining the sequence, with the one virginal girl living)?

If they bring mamma back, then yeah it would be a remake, now.

You liked it too eh? thats good.I think it was actualyl done right unlike the nightmare on elm street book and texas chainsaw I didn't even touch...

If you ever get the chance to meet Justin Gray you have to take it he is such a cool guy and is a legitamate horror fan.He said he had a blast and was really happy to know that I thought he got FT13TH right. Super cool guy.

i like superhuman jason :(

They need to reboot this series instead of continuing it. Being that people from freddy vs jason are involved im really not all that excited about this news, until I hear more of what they have planned. As of now im imagining a crappy horror movie.
