I know people complain about Kristin Kreuk's portrayal of Lana Lang but if you could go back and recast the role. Who would you cast?

Well it wasn't the actress that was the problem, it was the storylines they put her into. Having a different actress doing the same storylines wouldn't change much.

That being said I would like if they got a more bubbly redhead to play Lana. In all honesty I think if they tweaked Chloe's character a bit Allison could have been a good Lana.

totally i never really had much hate against the actress, she is ok and i have nothing against her as a person. I like sv fan hated that the character got the wrost storylines at times, witch, vampire, marrying lex luthor, etc..... It would have been better if they kept her a regular normal person. Maybe just kept that girl next door take on the character like it was in season 1/2. Then she should have been gone after the highschool years.

Someone had said that Cassidy Freeman probably woulda made a good Lana... She's taller than Kristin and would have had good chemistry with Tom.

She would have been good.

I don't hate Kristin, but I think she was out of her depth in earlier seasons. It took her a lot longer to increase her skill, but in the end she was a far better actress at the end than she was at the beginning. But by then it was too late, Lana was pretty much ruined as a character, her motivations shifting wildly from episode to episode, depending solely on the needs of the story.

Agreed, another probelm I had with SV Lana is I think they should have keapt Lana a redhead. Another actress who I think could have played Lana om SV is Kate Mare. She's about the same age as KK.

I have to disagree that Lana was ruined as a character, as would the many non-vocal Lana-fans out there, although I do realize there are many who would disagree.

Motivations and characterizations veering wildly to suit current storylines isn't something that was (or is) necessarily limited to the character of Lana Lang.

I would like to see anybody defend Lana being a witch in S4 as good story telling. To me that was the start of Lana getting shot into storylines because she was Lana and had to do something because she was 2nd in the credits.

I am guessing if you ask most Lana fans about that Season, deap down they probably wished the focused on Clana more then shipping her off to a plot that dragged her away from Clark(which ironicall is the only positive I get out of the whole witch Lana thing myself, it saved us from a season of Clark being whiney and depressed about how his love life sucks)

I cant see it. CF comes off a bit harder. I cant picture her as Lana bc she's more rough around the dges so to speak

Well, I think because they'd been doing that to her for several years mean she was ruined as a character. By the end they didn't know what to do with her so motivations and characterization veering wildly from episode to episode just got worse.

I know that you disagree, but I think that they had no clue how to write her anymore. I think that pretty much showed in season 7 when she changed motivations-wise with almost every episode.

The same thing essentially happened to Whitney and Pete and even Lex... and they're all gone now.

I think it's starting to happen to Chloe now, so I guess we'll see if she lasts the season. I think they've come close to ruining her as a character too.

Oh, okay: granted for Tess, but I think that's the character, not the actress.

Not being a redhead was not a problem (other characters looked different or were non-mythos), is the way she was written, but I could say the same thing about most characters on this show.

yea its more about the writing on the character which really sucked.

agreed

personally, I never thought very much of KKs acting. That combined with the writing of the character was utter death(ie. she was always written as the wise all knowing adolescant who liked to generalize the 'moral of the story'). Couple all that with the idea that she's an orphan farmgirl, who looks like she goes to the beauty salon 5 times a day... the credibility of the character, and the actress portraying, dropped for me IMO.

There was nothing really natural about her delivery (I'm talking about her generally, from EM to LOCL). I think she'd probably make a wonderful stage actress. But horrible for TV. 'Acting is acting like you are not acting', I never get this vibe from KK, but rather a drama queen vibe trying too hard at her part of the show.

CF prolly would have made a great lana, Sarah Carter(alicia) would have fit in there pretty nicely as well.

I never thought of her for Lana but now that I do I think she could have been great.

I just pulled out my Firefly DVD, and looking at that the redhead who played Kaylee(Jewel Staite) would have been great(although there might have been a problem that she sort of looks like a younger Annette O'Toole)

Oooor, they're finally writing her in a way that emphasizes her true character. ;)

Never had a problem with Kreuk at all. The biggest problem I had with Lana was not Lana herself but the way they wrote Clark when she was around. I especially despised his deranged stalker phase in the back half of season 6. In fact I think the last portion of season 6 may have been even worse than the end of last season, to me anyway. The Lex/Clark/Lana triangle was pure Soap Opera right down to the non baby and I cringe at the thought of Martha Kent telling Clark to go for it with a soon to be married woman.

Maybe it was just Al/Miles.

I'm happy with Kristin she was great as Lana!
On the other hand, I think Cassidy Freeman would have been much better Lois than ED!

I don't know on this one Rene. While slight characterization flaws can occur in trying to tell a story. I think the problem with Lana was less to do with telling a story and more of a lack of knowing what to do with her character.

I thought Lana was amazing in the first few seasons. Unfortunately they ran out of ideas for her pretty quickly, and ended up putting her character into extreme situations just to make it so that she's "doing something."

I thought she was great the first season, entertaining enough in S2, S3 her storyline started to get repetative, starting S4 was when it felt like the put her into storylines because she was Lana and needed to do something.

Kate Mara from the movie Shooter could have made a great Lana Lang on Smallville. She even looks like comic Lana Lang.

*smirks*

I used to like her a lot more before she learned Clark's secret, but I'm dreading finishing my Pandora review because I hated Chloe so much throughout that episode....

I hate to hate an episode, but this one... Not sure what to grade it. Everyone had some bad moments (well, everyone except Tom) but I absolutely loathed what they did to Chloe and how Allison portrayed the different version of Chloe.

I wouldn't shed a tear if AM were to leave the show should it go to 10 seasons...

I didn't think Kristen Kreuk's Lana was bad, I thought she played the girl next door/high school crush for Clark quite well. Which is essentially all the character ever should have been IMO.

To be quite fair, once the character had split up with Clark, Lana Lang's appearences should have been reduced significantly. The character was ruined by the stuff that followed their relationship such as the witch ****e, the ninja ****e, the Lex's wife.. (ok I kinda liked that angle :O) & the SuperLana nonsense..

Poor writing & planning ruined the character completely for me after about season 4.. I thought Kristen Kreuk did well with the material she was given to work with beyond that.. its just a pity the stories where utter bollocks..
