that's not what i'm laughing at.Outsiderzedge said:I find giving a job to someone who's less qualified simply because of his/her race appalling. Yet, this is exactly what Affirmative Action does.
ShrinkingViolet said:White is as much a race as black. Both of them, however, are socially, not biologially constructed.
Kroc1138 said:The Problem is that. Society doesn't work that way. Ppl are still biased so even the best minorities are getting jobs. Even with Affirmative action in place it does little when you count statistics. I don't totally agree with it, but it sadly is a necessary evil. Although ppl who hate it try to correlate it it with filling quotas which actually isn't the case.
don't call darkies african americans, we're not all from bloody africa or americaAbaddon said:Black ,or rather African American,is considered a race because its a classification of a group of people who all came from one nation(Africa).Whites came from all over, and they can't really be classified in the same way as African Americans. You are right, however, about them being social constructs.

Ah, got a touch of the white guilt do ya?CrAzYMoFo said:Am I the only white person who feels really awkward being served by a black person? Like I saw a white rich person at the grocery store and this black guy was pushing her carraige for her. Am I the only one who would feel awkward in that situation?
Also, a friend of mine, who is black, had a party. Pretty much everyone was black and I felt very strange when the gave me food. I would try to serve myself but they would always do it for me and it kind of felt strange. Other whites feel the same?
How about the other way around, if you are black and are serving a white person, do you feel strange?

Whites need not apply.
i would start a thread about this, but the thread title would confuse me to oblivion, and i'd have to be reinstated at my local assylumAbaddon said:I was referring to african Americans which is why I used that term.Black people can be from pretty much anywhere.
That has nothing to do with it..Duende Verde said:But you're half asian, you qualify.
And if you read my response, (you obviously didn't) I said I was being cynical to you black/white poorly thought out conclusions to your first post. Maybe this will ring a bell. (Ref. Page 2)strike-hard said:You also said that white people that wear white pride shirts are probably racist...
While Hispanic people wearing Brown Pride shirts are proud of their race...
Kroc1138 said:When you vague everything like you did it kind of difficult to respond to it. I was being cynical, since your OP is very Black/White and reaks of apathy and shortsightedness.
Erica Draven gave great examples of "white pride" T-shirts. The only though that came to mind whit your post is someone wearing a Confederate Flag Shirt or some KKK shirt.
Be more descriptive and try to come off better informed when talking about something as sensitive as race.

I wasn't planning on applying..
But I bet you some white people wanted to, but will be turned away...

How far is is that stick crammed up your butt?
Did you look at the context of what the SEO was all about? 'Preparing young people of color to lead by example in their families, communties and careers.'strike-hard said:That has nothing to do with it..

That is another problem that should be dealt with as well. I'm not say that AA is the end all solution to racism in hirings.Human Shield said:What if blacks are less productive because of poor schools and upbringing? How does Affirmative action fix that?
You have a point, still that's also an even bigger problem. So Black ppl have had lots of bad experiences and have a chip on their shoulder (or fear of) persecution. Some others just play the race card more than they should. It is society as it is.The problem with discrimination law is that it is more risky for a company to hire a minority because it becomes tougher to fire them, firing a white worker does not come with the risk of discrimination lawsuits. More effective measures should be taken.
Become a politician and fight for it!! No joke or cyncism at all in that comment.Workers should also be competing with each other, equal pay laws encourage businesses to hire who ever they want because the workers can't underbid each other, same deal with minimum wage laws. One of the biggest supporters of equal pay laws are white workers in south Africa that want white jobs protected after black workers are taking them.
