You can call me Simpleton...
Two men apply for the same position...
One is white and the other is Asian...
They are both equally qualified for the position...
The Asian man gets the position to promote diversity in the workplace...
(repeat over)
Until minorities feel that they aren't discriminated against anymore.
But it's okay for them to discriminate...
Actually, the reasoning behind it goes domething like this........
Two men apply for the same position...
One is white and the other is Asian...
Both are equally qualified, yet the number of positions like the one offered held by asian people is minute, while the number of white people in this position is large.
add to that the fact that the owner of the business is white, and so is the person evaluating the two individuals who are as you said are "equally qualified".
affirmative action was conceived to deter employersfrom using race as a determining factor (ie, both are qualified the same, but one is white just like me.....) add to that the fact that quite frankly racism has been pretty much accepted until recently in the u.s. (i mean, c'mon, think about it, it's one of the few places that has a racial slur for every race, in some cases several....)
Minorities however don't "discriminate" I think you are mistakingly assuming that being "proud" of who you are is "discriminatory", It would be just as damnable is a minority discriminated white people, and there are organizations that do this, it does not make it okay.
now, what you don't seem to understand is that "white Pride" is inmediatly associated with white supremacy, in fact, if the white race had been persecuted at least once in the past 400 years i'd be all for "white pride" t-shirts, but this is not so is it.
as little as 20 years ago racism was pretty rampant in the U.S. in fact, in many places it's still pretty much the norm.
racism is making a judgement on a person solely on attributes you associate with a race (skin color, use of language, religion what have you) trying to help those that due to social innequities have a harder time aquiring the same opportunities available to the white majority is far from racist.
