Radio host uses the N-word repeatedly

All people give a crap about is skin color? It's just one thing on the list. The Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland were the same skin color...didn't keep them from killing each other.

People everywhere find something to make themselves seem superior and everyone else inferior...whether it be religion, skin, eyes, hair, height, the way they wear thier hat, or if they like the Twilight movies or not. We have people on here who hate each other because one likes Tom Welling and the other doesn't....bet they never even considered what thier skin color was.
The whole Catholic vs Protestant thing isn't even the main reason for the violence in Northern Ireland. It has more to do with the centuries of English invasions in Ireland. Belfast happened to be the beach head. There's also the fact that there's Protestants in the IRA and Catholics in the UVF. There's also the fact that the English gave Irish lands to English , Scottish and Welsh landowners. I also know that skin color isn't the only reason for why humans constantly war with each other , but it's the biggest dividing factor.

As naive as it sounds, I believe that this nation is not as racist as some people think, but there's still a lot of work to be done. I believe that America has made great progress in race relations and I continue to remain optimistic about this nation; the world, even with all hatred.

Call me naive, but I believe this nation will one day move on.

I agree to an extent with much of what you say. I don't think the nation will ever FULLY move one, but things have and will continue to get better.

I'm white. I'm not arguing for white people to have the right to use it. I argue for no one to have the right to use it.

I agree with you, no one should say it. It's wrong and hurtful for anyone to say it. I'm arguing against notion presented by Dr. Laura and others that because some blacks continue to abuse themselves...other blacks should tolerate that abuse from whites.

There's no problem with gays calling each other fa**ot. It seems only when it comes to the N-word do whites get slur-envy.
That makes no sense. First....I and others don't have slur envy.

If a non gay person calls a gay person the F word...I dare say he would get in as much trouble as calling a black man the N word.

It's like whining about fat people getting away with calling each other fatso. There's a failure to understand the exclusivity wouldn't exist without the persecution that created the slur in the first place.
The overweight people I know call themselves fat...but I haven't heard them calling others fat.

Nope, but it's not banned word that black people are fighting/complaining to use again either.

Funny thing is most black people who use the word know other black people who are offended by it and DON'T use it around them out of respect. Not sure why some people of other races can't just do the same.

Treat people as individuals.

Respect their wishes to not be called something they find offensive.

Understand that what you say and how you say things can invoke different reactions in different people.

I do treat people as individuals....I don't call ANYONE something that they feel would be offensive...and I don't use offensive terms about people when they aren't in front of me either. If you say offensive terms about people when they aren't there...they will still hear about you doing it. I don't like being called offensive things...so i don't go around calling others these things either.

Who in their right mind in the Western World would wear anything resembling a swastika even if it was the Hindu swastika ?

Anyone who believed in that faith and was not ashamed of it I guess.

Again...you are giving power to something which has no power.

If a group comes up and starts killing blacks and Jews, and uses the Ghost Busters logo as their symbol, that symbol is not full of hate...it is simply being used in a hateful way. EVERY word and EVERY symbol could be used this way.

I know. The point being...skin color wasn't the base of the hatred between two groups of people.

I don't agree with her stand either...I don't think anyone should tolerate it's use being spoke around them.

So you expect a Jewish person to nod and smile when someone raises a nazi flag on their property to teach them to be less sensitive.

I wouldn't blame them one bit for being offended. And I sure wouldn't try to teach them about being more sensitive by raising ten more nazi flags.

This black lady was complaining about her boyfriend's verbally abusive friends and the radio host responds by using the N-word repeatedly. Would she respond the same way if the caller complained about being called stupid or a ****. Of course not. The caller is expected to endure the verbal abuse only because it has to do with racism and every conservative knows racism was simply invented by black leaders to get rich and famous. That 400 years of institutional racism, slavery and terrorism? No big deal. Pretend it never happened.

Actually, if a Hindu man walks by wearing a swastika, then no, a jewish person should not be offended. That symbol existed for hundreds of years before the Nazis were even thought up. The symbol...like ANY symbol...can be used for hate...but the context is key.

And OF COURSE a jewish person should be offended by a Nazi flag. Context is key.

Read Mein Kampf the Germans would've never killed Africans like they did the Jew , Gypsy , Russian , and their other enemies. They would've left them alone to show the inferiority of Untermensch to the Ubermensch.

I have read it. The statement you quoted was about some fictional bigoted group that uses the Ghost Busters logo. This fictional group hates blacks as well as Jews.

I'm saying you should remember the history of the oppression of your people , but don't let that s*** define you.
What indication has anyone given that we are doing the latter instead of the former?

It would be stupid to openly display. Look at how people react to the Rebel flag when it's displayed in the South. The Confederacy died over 100 years ago and people are still disgusted by it. The Third Reich was crushed over 60 years ago so yeah people are still going to be disgusted by it. Ironically , by recoiling in disgust by it they're still keeping that evil alive.
They're not keeping evil alive they're stopping history from repeating itself.

In a nutshell:

9/11 = never forget

slavery, jim crow, holocaust = keep that s--t in the past

I wasn't speak speaking about you. I'm just saying some people for some reason refuse to do these things and act as if it's some huge injustice that people get upset that they said something they find offensive.

The Klan hasn't been united since the 1960's. All the Klans you see aren't even united. How can a group of hundreds even begin to become a power in a nation of over 300 million especially when said group is on the fringe and not even united ? The different Klans fight each other more than they do their enemies.

Claiming a word as "one's own" is just a temporary defense mechanism that does nothing to improve long term respect for that community.

The homosexual reclaimed the f-word.

You know what forget it. It's like talking to a brickwall when it comes to race relations in the US.

Reclaimed the f-word? Tell that to Phelps and all of the other bigots out there, including the very woman this thread is about who said "f-words" are all rapists.

Once a word is lost, it is lost. The negative meaning will always be there. Sorry but the f word no longer means cigarette.

Well....I've never called anyone that and never plan to...so I'm not complaining.

But I would think that some people are pretty confused....they listen to music where it is used, they see people smiling and calling each other that with no problem...and then they use the word and they are the most evil stupid disrespectful person ever.
Where's the confusion.

blacks using the N-word = reminder of common struggle

whites using the N-word = reminder of centuries of persecution

I think some whites make it more confusing than it is.

And conversly....is a person's world that much better because they can?
Well if the two choices are:

1) Use the word in multiple contexts including solidarity

2) Preserve the word exclusively for persecution

I'd prefer the first option.
