Radio host uses the N-word repeatedly

Agreed, she is a complete moron who does not deserve a show at all. I was also surprised to learn she is Jewish. She would not want anyone talking about her ethnicity...so why treat others that way.

Why would assume that? Sounded like she made it clear she likes all kinds of racial, religious and ethnic joshing.

The only thing she Dr. Laura did wrong was apologize for her use of the word. Her point was imminently reasonable and fair: if a group is going to use a word like it's the most natural, innocent thing in the world, they can't then turn around and blow a gasket at other people using the same word. Since they use it as term of affection, at the very most, blacks have a right to take minor offense to whites using the N-word, not act like the mere pronunciation of it, regardless of why it was used, is a an outrageous slight that demands justice and rectification.

The only thing she did wrong? You have obviously never heard of this woman. She has made the news numerous times for saying ridiculous and insensitive things.

The biggest thing she did wrong was argue that a black woman should tolerate being called a 'n*****' by her white in-laws because some blacks on HBO said it.
Listen to the whole video here:

It's amazing how so many people ignore the initial topic the caller brings up and just changes it to this anti-black agenda.

I've heard the tape...and Dr Laura (who I despise) never argued that it's okay to be called the N-word in your own home. Nothing of the sort ever left her mouth.

There are MANY things about Dr Laura worth bashing...but if we simply bash her for invented controversies, then it makes all of the criticisms look petty. In other words, pick your freaking battles.

If I call you a...oh I don't know...a nugget. What does that mean? It means nothing.
Let's say I call you a nugget every day...like "that stupid nugget". Then eventually you will start to associate that word with hate-speech, when in reality, it is just a word. Words are neutral...they have no feelings.

Look at it like this:

People get tattoos of Chinese symbols and say "it means POWER!" or something. The fact is...no it does not. Their symbols take on their meaning from the other words around them. If you eliminate the context, then it could mean things VERY different from "Power". Those who know the symbols often laugh at Americans who mistakenly have ridiculous words on their bodies, insulting themselves.

In a similar way, our words must be taken in context. If I call you a stupid nugget, you don't like it...but if I offer you chicken nuggets, you'll be grateful. We should not give a power to a word in such a controlling way. We have become slaves to a simple collection of letters that has no ability to think or feel. That's just silly.

Has Emperor Jesse Jackson and Pope Al Sharpton commented on this yet ?

You guys will never get it.

It's a word...and words only have power if we surrender that power to them (and they don't care either way, because they are only words).

This "N-word" nonsense is stupid. If you are using it in an educational or conversational manner, then the word is just a word. If you use it as a bash against someone else, then really any unwarranted bash is kind of a mean thing to say.
The N-word isn't just a normal insult. The word brings up a long history of terrorism, oppression, and exploitation.

It woul be like saying the Nazi flag is just a flag and Jews shouln't be offended by it. Of course they should.

She an advice show host, of course she has said ridiculous things. I would imagine most of what she says is stupid, but there's nothing wrong with being insensitive.

The thing is that it isn't the group that does such things it's parts of the group. That's like saying that because I've seen a few women call each other ***** that I now have carte blanche to hurl the word at every woman I see and they can only take it as a minor offense.

Also this isn't as complex or hard to grasp as people are making it out to be. If someone somehow found out about a pet name a man calls his wife only during sex does that mean that man and his wife don't have the right to be totally offended if someone outside of their marriage calls her that?

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt....but she's definitely holds malicious racist views of blacks. She reveals way too much about herself through those comments.

Caller: been around family members who starts making racist comments...

Laura: Give an example...its possible you're being hypersensitive

She hasn't heard an example yet, but has already formed a biased prejudicial assumption about the caller.

The caller complains about neighbor making comments "why do blacks do this...blackso do that"..yadda yadda.

Now, in my opinion, I don't think there's anything wrong with having questions about why people of other cultures and races do one thing or another. It's ok to be curious. However, its not ok to harass a person in house ask her implicitly insulting questions just because you're curious. If she's ignoring the questions, its obvious she wants you to stop, but if you keep going, you obviously disrespecting her in her own house.

But here's the shocking part...

Caller: "What about when they say ******"

Laura: "Black people on HBO say it all the time"

seriously what the f***? Your caller just shared piece of humiliating verbal abuse by friends/neighbors of her spouse...and your argument is that she should tolerate it because of a comedian on HBO.

I think the way she used the word was still malicious. It would be like trying to teach someone to be less sensitive by calling their mother a stupid ****.

There's Neo-Nazi skinheads in Israel and yet they haven't been wiped out.

To put things into perspective, Dr. Laura use to have a tv show years ago. It was immediately canceled after two things happened. 1) She went on a tirade claiming that all gay men were pedophiles who molested young boys and 2) The public learned the guests on her show were people who worked for her. She paid them to say whatever she wanted to hear. Keep this in mind. This woman is not new to controversy. She loves to stir the pot, brew the soup. She probably got a nice kick out of saying the n-word a couple of times and now wants other people to be okay saying it because some people on HBO do:awesome:

At the 1:30 mark, she says 'the n word has been thrown around..'..I'm assuming she talking about herself although Laura's quick to interrupt with "Black guys say it all the time'. Plus the whole point she's saying that its ok to say in some context implies that the caller shouldn't make a big deal if her white in-laws say it. They're just showing some "endearment"

She said that it has been thrown around...that does not automatically equal that she was called the n-word. The truth is that Laura cut her off and we do not know the true context...and I prefer to not invent one.

It woul be like saying the Nazi flag is just a flag and Jews shouln't be offended by it. Of course they should.

The swastika is a great example. It is actually an old Hindu religious symbol. The Nazis used it for entirely different purposes. These days, when a Hindu person has a swastika, it is deemed offensive...when in reality the symbol has NOTHING to do with Jews or Nazis. Again, context is everything. I refuse to surrender my life to symbols and letters.

If someone uses the Nazi symbol for anti-Jewish protests or painting it on a Jewish establishment, then obviously THAT would be wrong...but any of other hateful action would also be wrong.

So you would go outside wearing a swastika if you did not mean it in an offensive manner?

Who in their right mind in the Western World would wear anything resembling a swastika even if it was the Hindu swastika ?

The tape sounds like instead of helping out the calling she starts ranting about black people. Her use of The-N word wasn't racist, but almost everything else she said was. :csad:

Someone who "refuse to surrender their life to symbols and letters."

It would be stupid to openly display. Look at how people react to the Rebel flag when it's displayed in the South. The Confederacy died over 100 years ago and people are still disgusted by it. The Third Reich was crushed over 60 years ago so yeah people are still going to be disgusted by it. Ironically , by recoiling in disgust by it they're still keeping that evil alive.

That can be applied to every form of evil there is. It's simply human nature.
